I have been playing mtg casually since portal and started playing limited with the release of time spiral. I have not played a lot of limited recently since I got bored of zen and switched to standard but I intend to do a bit more after worldwake comes out.
I am a casual player. I like drafting funny decks...forcing 5-power drumhunter decks, allies in zen, etc. I also am the person who will pick Felidar Sovereign over Vampire Nighthawk any day of the week. I value rarely seen cards more.
My mtgo name is Diglett. You will often see me trolling the auction place with * Human digs. /me digs. /me digs. My limited rating hovers around 1800. Yeah, that's about it!

We totally have an overrun in the format! It just happens to be a mythic rare...
It would be pretty cool to play this with eldrazi monument, but what isn't cool to play with the monument.
Well, the Monument is nice, but green really needs a way to punch through aggressively, a la Overrun. Plus, the Monument only really works when you have a critical mass. I can remember Overrunning with 2 dudes out and winning that way, rather than forcing myself to have 6 men on the board.
The fact that it's Mythic and an artifact makes it basically the opposite of what green needs in this format. An uncommon Overrun would be perfect.

Signalling is like farting: it's a natural thing that helps people avoid being where you are, and if you try to do it deliberately, things turn to crap fast.

I hereby found the American Chapter of the Zealots of Semantics. All glory to The Curmudgeon.
You mean a Lash Out that always wins the clash It's a quite well-balanced card though. It's pretty much sorcery speed if you want to make the most of it, and it's not like it's a given that you always have a land ready when you want to hit something for 3.
Yes, that's the card. I was remembering the wrong common removal. Not so bad that it's sorcery speed, because it's still solid removal. Wonder how often it'll get played as an instant (on opponent's turn, say). Probably very little (like not kicking Marsh Casualties).
Alright. I'd reaalllyy hate to do this, but because of the lack of leadership at [Soundtrack], I'll be taking over there, so I would like to request to be bumped back down to friend and maybe could work out some alliance

I could see an alliance with soundtrack. I imagine most MTGO drafters listen to music while they draft.
Actually, on that subject, what do people listen to while they draft? I tend to draft to Led Zeppelin or The Who. Although the last time I drafted, it was Gnarles Barkley.

I rifle through new music like crazy, and anything that clears my head gets the nod while drafting / playing online. Laura Veirs' new album is my current pick.
I also listen to Led Zeppelin, and Radiohead, Iron Maiden and various other artists (though all of them quite old), but the favorite for me is by far Pink Floyd. I've heard the song Echoes about a hundred times in just a couple of months while playing MODO, and if you know which song I'm talking about, that is a lot
Hello new clan! May I humbly request to be a friend of [Limited]?
That's a great banner you have up, but it should have fewer non-Ravnica cards in it.
Limited is a great format. It combines my love of two-color, basic lands, and skill-testing, while being comparatively light on the pocketbook.
Timmy: Every deck is packed with singletons, so every game is a different experience (less so in Zendikar Sealed). And hey, it's fun to actually resolve that 7cc bomb. Johnny: It's kind of weird, I consider myself a Johnny foremost, yet I like Limited because it lets me try to build the "best deck" without worrying about stifling my creativity. Spike: In terms of deckbuilding, you're forced to evaluate cards relative to others in the pack/pool, overall gameplan, and what your neighbors are doing, rather than stuff your deck with 4x of all the broken rares in the format. For me the most satisfaction comes when I beat an opponent who's playing as well (and getting as lucky) as I am, and I get that experience a lot from Limited.
My inner Vorthos and Melvin don't have much to say about Limited.
I haven't played a lot of tournament Magic, started drafting a bit over a year ago. Do forgive me if some of the reports are too long and dramatized a bit: it's my inner Vorthos (rather, my inner drama-queen) taking over.
My first drafting experience. I first picked a Shambling Shell and followed it up with Golgari Rot Farm, then some red/black cards in pack 3. (I didn't know that SHM was an ally colors matter set, otherwise I probably would have focused on Selesnya.)
Lots and lots of moths. I lost in the finals to an Elder Pine/Endless Swarm deck.
I just wanted Farewell to Arms and Stone-Cold Basilisk. I remember losing to the eventual winner in round 2, but I also remember doing badly, so I don't quite recall what my final w/l were. The guy who won drafted a combo deck with Loose Lips, Topsy Turvy, and Number Crunch. He really wanted those full-art basics.
Here it is, the low point of my Magic playing career.
I figured that colorfixing would be important, and I looked up all the cards in Gatherer, but other than that I didn't do any research on the format. I wound up with a slowish midrange deck that revolved around fixing and trying to resolve either Empyrial Archangel or Martial Coup. Unfortunately, I realized too late that my right-hand neighbor was playing Naya.
I was paired up against said neighbor in round 1 and beaten down by Aven Squires. Game 2 he was manascrewed and game 3 I had a commanding board position, with 10 creatures to his 5ish. Being too lazy to do the math, I swung with one exalted creature, then:
* My opponent ripped Naya Charm off the top and attacked with the team for exactly lethal damage.
* My friend asked me why didn't I just alpha strike for the win.
* My other friend came over and asked about the match results, in a way that implied he thought I should have won.
* My opponent admitted he was just "taking all the exalted cards" he was passed.
* I hung my head in shame.
Round 2 I was paired against a guy who had opened Tezzeret. I won 2-1 and refused the prize (Swiss, 1 pack per win). In retrospect I was being a complete jerk to the guy who had just gone 0-2, but at that point I had drilled into my head "You are a horrible drafter, you built a horrible deck, and you should go home and burn all your cards and quit Magic forever because you suck" and I didn't really care. Round 3 I was run over by Goblin Outlanders.
I went home, burned all my cards, and quit Magic forever.
...okay, so I didn't really. Lack of willpower and all that.
" / 3-1">The only rated tournament I've competed in, and the reason my DCI rating is non-1600. I went into the format thinking "Everyone knows red is the worst color" and opened Fireball, Lightning Bolt, Earthquake, and a second Bolt in succession. Well, I was playing red. My curve topped out at Capricious Efreet (which I sadly never got to use, because I was too busy burninating everything) and Berserkers of Blood Ridge, with Giant Spider being my next largest creature.
My loss was to a guy against whom I made some bloody awful mistakes game 1 (Earthquake your Wind Drakes...um no). He switched his deck to a green stompy game 3, then both of us got mana flooded. Unfortunately for me his curve ended at Kalonian Behemoth and mine, well, didn't.
I won three booster packs, which contained Pithing Needle, Vampire Nocturnus...and Ant Queen. Le sigh.
Should speak for itself. I really suck at joke formats. I am still kicking myself for not just cashdrafting and taking Silence first pick. Also, Mouth to Mouth is vile.
Don't remember much about this one, except for the traumatic mishap that occurred shortly before and had nothing to do with the draft (if you must know, it involved singing and cake). I lost to a RB aggro round 3, then was paired up and lost again to Sprout Swarm and Nacatl Hunt-Pride.
I had help. I also had P1P1 Sleep, P2P1 Kalonian Behemoth, P2P2 Overrun, and pack 3 another Sleep sitting next to Chandra Nalaar. I rammed my Behemoth into a Flashfreeze round 1 game 2, followed by Chandra resolving and wasting my board, then got my revenge game 3 when I Negated her. The opponent had mysterious connection failure for 10 minutes, came back, finished the game, and said gg. I went on to win every game off the back of Sleep/Overrun.
I drafted Serra Angel, Air Elemental, and Sphinx Ambassador, and made lots of dumb mistakes in a match against MonoB Vampire Nocturnus and Cemetery Reaper. Eh, it happens.
I first picked a Disfigure, then noticed my black was getting cut, so I shifted into red and green. Second pack comes around and I notice there's an awful lot of white and blue being passed...>.>
I also had the "fortune" of a pack 2, pick 2 choice between Burst Lightning, Harrow, and Trusty Machete. I took the Machete.
One bizarre game state later, I had an 8/6 River Boa "wielding" a Machete and four glittering blades. I personally dub this deck "Timmy" because of the enormous creatures it liked to spit out, such as a Soaring Seacliff targeting Baloth Woodcrasher into a kicked Vines of Vastwood (12/12) for the kill. My loss was to a R/u deck with double Zektar Shrine, double Burst Lightning, and triple Spire Barrage.
I first-picked a Doom Blade followed by Howling Banshee and Sign in Blood, then shifted to white->green->blue because I wasn't getting good black and blue seemed open. Then I got passed Nightmare and Mind Shatter in pack three...and found out my right-hand neighbor was UBR ("splashing" something) when I played him in round 3. Hunh.
The TO, a friend of mine, was playing in a MTGO PTQ and running the event at the same time. Before the draft started he asked if everyone understood Limited, no one spoke up, and we assumed all was well. Then a guy in our pool, instead of picking a card, started showing people the rare he opened and asking "how much is this worth?" until the TO had to come over, lecture him, and sternly instruct him to just pick one. I almost feel bad for not feeling bad for him, as it was painfully obvious he had no idea what he was doing.
Our "feature match" was round 1, game 2. My opponent was playing GU splash goodstuff and both of us were ripping bombs and answers off the top like an episode of Yugioh. Garruk->Fireball->Mind Control (I drew Tendrils here)->Overrun anyone? We were taking so long that a small crowd of people had started to gather. After he 3-for-1'ed my fliers with Windstorm, and played Giant Spider, I knew I had to draw Nightmare, so I used both my Merfolk Looters.
Land.
Land.
My friend the TO says "Come on, Nightmare!"
I rip the Nightmare off the top. I slam the Nightmare down.
"Essence Scatter."
"In response, Negate!"
End my turn, neither of us with any cards in hand.
He draws his third Deadly Recluse.
"...how many cards are left in your library?"
"Three."
"Ok, I'm just going to let you deck yourself."
And so I did.
After the match he let me look through his deck because "You showed me your entire deck, it's only fair."
Game 2: "Forest, Mold Adder, go."
"Did you see my round 1 match?"
"No."
Two turns later: "Divination?"
"...he gets a counter."
(I turn around) "Can I borrow a die from you guys?"
"So you can decide who goes first?" (my previous opponent, they're just starting)
"No, my opponent needs to put counters on his turn 1 Mold Adder."
"Oooh..." *sympathy wince*
Needless to say, I lost that game. I proceeded to go into full-on Jerkass Spike mode and win every game after that, but that doesn't make for a good story, now does it?
As you can see I'm really bad at Limited because I don't make the commitment to getting better. (All of the above tournaments had between 8 and 25 participants.)
And I wouldn't listen to any music while drafting.
I don't listen to musik while drafting, I think about the draft ^^
That would've helped me out last draft...
"Sweet, bladetusk boar! Crypt Ripper! Sell sword! Another one! Another one! Wow, this one is really late... maybe I should cost sort? Eh nah."
Passed a bloodghast for a crypt ripper with a deck of all 4 drops -.-
I'm not sure how much music distracts me, especially something mellow like zeppelin, but I should probably turn music off when I draft just to be safe.

2 is enough to screw your opponent in terms of them losing out on cards, but 3 is enough to mill.
Uh oh. Dare I let our clan's introductory thread degenerate into a lesson on the basics of mill as a strategy? I don't really want to, but I fear not doing so may undermine our credibility!
Suffice it to say that, if your only goal with Hedron Crab (or any mill card) is to "screw your opponent" out of a few cards, then you are doing it wrong.
It's more that people always overvalue removal. Really, if they make a card ":symb:: Sorcery: As an additional cost, get F'd in the A. Destroy target creature." people will say "removal is removal" and first-pick it.

You could probably just link to another thread that has covered it.
@ Muffin Man - Do not buy into the smoke and mirrors of partial mill.
You don't want to spend mana and a card to randomize your opponent's deck. Your opponent isn't getting screwed or losing out on cards. I understand the appearance of advantage, but unless you are killing someone with mill, you aren't actually doing anything.
...that said, 2 crabs can be enough to mill someone to death. The question is, would you have killed them faster has those two crabs been into the roils or random dudes.

Magic History : I started out in scourge... played until kamigawa cycled out. ( cash for a kid at the time was hard ) Then i started back up in conflux-alara reb. and now im here.
I didn't grasp the concept of draft back then but now i see it way more clearly.
The reason why i like sealed so much is because i'm a compulsive deck builder.
I just recently have been starting to go to ptq's and i got to top 4 of my first ever and then top 8 of the 2nd one (both were sealed) The top 4 ptq was hilarious because i got the perfect GB pool. 7 vampires (3 nighthawks 1 bloodwitch 2 lacerator 1gatekeeper) and to top that off i got a sorin. I also got 2 disfigure and 1 hideous end, 1 mosquito, 1 hagra croc and 1 needle bite trap.. 14 playable GREAT black cards. The green was just as rediculous. 2 salvage sillouettes (spelling is bad) 1 oracle of mull daya, oran rief recluse. 2 vines. 2 khalni heart exp. and a woodcrasher baloth. ( i had the debate between oran rief recluse and timbermaw larva.) i played a 17 land deck... by far my fav sealed pool... just to see the looks of their faces when they play their dual gain life lands and just needle bite them. The top 8 draft of that one was horrible but hilarious. I got so screwed out of any good colors... so i'm like well i guess i'm going blue... (splashed black) ended up geting 3 welkin terns 2 temp owls 2 windrider eels 1 guuldraz specter. jar jar... may sound good but i got like no removal whatsoever...
There is more but i have to go i just love sealed ^.^

Welcome to the crew, from one compulsive deck builder to another.
I generally can't afford to play sealed with the frequency it would take to get good at it. 30 dollars a week or whatever is a bit high...
Sealed does interest me a lot, and I play in a pseudo-sealed league at work. Unfortunately, it got corrupted by a mechanic that allowed people to inject a pack for every three losses or every nine wins. So a few people who play every day basically have constructed decks. Those of us who play less suggested a reset button, since this "league" has been going on since lorwyn block. The people who have sunk a 100 bucks a pack at a time into this vehemently said "no," so now it's really not a league any more. Luckily, most of these players are pretty casual, and it's easy enough to gain an edge. I think I'm about 60:40 with my ~9 pack deck vs their 30 pack decks, so at least I'm holding my own...
But I digress. Welcome to the clan!

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
I do accept your gracious offer of alliance with a great happiness!
We have many...things in common, though we be muffins and men, two vastly different species.
I joined a draft premier event on MODO (Shards), and I tried to force U/W, but it didn't work out, to say the least. It ended up as a G/W trainwreck splashing all the other colors, and with 20 creatures and no tricks. The only good card was Behemoth Sledge. But I completely lucksacked, so I made top 8 on the back of sick topdecks in consecutive games. In both rounds 2 and 3 I was in a position where it is reasonable to just concede, but I drew multiple runners and won them, somehow I played on the account "Matsmatsmatsmatsmats", and I advice you to watch the replays if you can. Round 2 game 3 and round 3 game 3 (against Owen Turtenwald) were the sickest games. Event number: 889256
In the top 8, I actually drafted an okay deck, but I drew the wrong half of my deck and lost. Not complaining, though..!
I'm going to play sealed this weekend for the WWK prerealese... gonna be weird since I'm in Korea and I'm not sure the English speaking is going to be top notch. Whatever, it'll be fun and I get a promo Comet Storm out of it.

That would've helped me out last draft...
"Sweet, bladetusk boar! Crypt Ripper! Sell sword! Another one! Another one! Wow, this one is really late... maybe I should cost sort? Eh nah."
Passed a bloodghast for a crypt ripper with a deck of all 4 drops -.-
I'm not sure how much music distracts me, especially something mellow like zeppelin, but I should probably turn music off when I draft just to be safe.

Giving cardoc a custom, because I meant to do that earlier.
I do accept your gracious offer of alliance with a great happiness!
We have many...things in common, though we be muffins and men, two vastly different species.

In the top 8, I actually drafted an okay deck, but I drew the wrong half of my deck and lost. Not complaining, though..!
That sounds about right to me. I love behemoth sledge. Such a silly card.
Someday I want to draft this and try to win through aggressive mulliganing.
2x Kathari Remnant
1x Behemoth Sledge
8x Mountain
7x Swamp
7x Island
4x Plains
My casual bant deck packs two and four armadillo cloak. Good times.
I'll be sure to watch your matches.
needs moar enlisted wurm and Bit. Blast.
Does anyone else hate (I mean, HATE) trips m10 draft? It's just so...boring.
