See: Any Niv-Mizzet EDH deck ever.
@Joboman: You mean to use? That's impossible. However people bring theirs to play in-between rounds.
To be fair, you could build a hundred singleton card deck and say a legend in it is your general while having it be standard legal. You just couldn't play by EDH rules.
Quote from Gargroyal »
can anyone make a deck with at least one of every izzet card and still be good?
Some people think Garruk's going to come back as a (B/G) planeswalker. How does this design look?
Garruk Corrupted 2BG
Planeswalker - Garruk
+1: Search your library for a creature card, reveal it, then shuffle your library and put that card on top of it.
-1: Each player sacrifices a creature.
-4: Exile all cards in target player's graveyard, then put a 1/1 green Saproling creature token onto the battlefield for each card exiled this way.

I hate long hair... I'm actually getting my hair cut tonight when I get out of lab. So flippin' annoying having to shower with so much hair...
Yeah, that is a downside. I waste a lot of time with it in the shower, but I've had it all my life (minus two incidents), so I can't really see me without it.
Hey guys. Totally blanked out about the new thread. I was looking at my User CP going "why is no one ever posting in the clan thread.." :ugh::facepalm:
Anyway, anything interesting happening in here? What's everyone been running for FNMs?

I was running my Crypt Combo deck for a while before people started to catch on and run Bojuka Bog. So for now, I am playing my Esper Beatdown deck until Rise of the Eldrazi comes out.
Edit: Just a tip Lady J, make sure your link in your sig link to this thread, and not the old one
I don't think I've actually posted in here since last week...
A lot to read and type on my part, so I'll just bid everyone a good day, tell Rocker that the ultimate on that Garruk seems a bit too small-scale (even if he's more than likely surviving the ultimate since you've been tutoring more than twice), and blah, I don't know. Then I'll get back on track and go post in the mafia game.

took it to FNM last friday went 5-0 though I don't hold alot on it, since most of the better players were doing test plays on new decks so the tried and true weren't being played. It didn't burp in any of the games but on, but it was a player error on my part and almost cost me the game.

I was playing Rw Valakut for a while, but then people started going back to mill decks for who knows what reason. The use of white has gone down in popularity, so I'll probably go back to RDW... or Barely Boros.

What's so good about RG?
Btw, Manlands are more of a 2 of instead of 4 due to etbt.
they're a ton better than the refuges, and people ran 4 of them...
honestly though, what's up with all of the ETBT lands in standard? we have the refuges, tri-lands, man-lands, ZEN common cycle, WWK common cylce, heck, even the M10 duels ETBT most of the time.

I wouldn't care too much about the fact the manlands ETBT. They add such a huge amount of threat density without sacrificing any actual deck space.
I suggest at MOST it's a 1 or 2 of... I don't really like it. Especially since it is awl liek an extra card that is not a mountain.
The reason you run RG is for the ramp (BBE is nice too, but ramping up with valakut = AWESUM)
I had to use a RG list yesterday that ran Ablazes, and the owner wouldn't let me take them out :(. Ablaze is SO BAD
In regards to teh RG manabase; People are doing Valakut Manabases ALL WRONG. The Manabase works best as Basics + Valakut + Fetch's. Here's how I'd do it :
I'm not even joking, don't hate on the pan's. They maximize Valakut's possible mountain triggers, while still fixing mana. And 12 mountains is the right amount.
I'll disagree with the hottie opinion. I have her in my izzet cruel deck. 2 resurrected cruel ultimatum's with an online pyromancer ascension will/has/always ends the game in my favor.
we could send $.10 to each member for each post that they make. Really only finding a good topic of conversation really gets it going.
It's pretty quiet on MTGS in general in between rumor seasons. Now that WWK is old news, everyone's pretty lax about posting.
The only thing I want to talk about is Mafia, which is unfortunate because you aren't supposed to talk about ongoing games. From what I hear, though, everyone who is in Guildpact Mafia is having fun. (Especially joboman, since he gets another shot at life.)
I guess I can settle for talking about other games I was in that finished recently.
In the middle of Day One, I replaced Alvarian, who was quiet and as a result drew undeserved criticism. He also happened to be the Town Watcher. I quickly turned that situation around and started to lead the town to some extent along with Toastboy and zindabad. Day One seemed to go on forever, and many scummy players come under suspicion, but none of us were willing to hammer. An impending deadline forced us to quick-lynch Zebi, who was vanilla town. zindabad, also vanilla town, was NKed and I feared that Toastboy or I was next. Despite getting more on track on Day Two, and having better reads on the scum, we still mislynched vanilla Gubbins for his hammer of Zebi among many other things. I died that Night and the town went into LyoL on Day Three. I had little faith that Toastboy could fix the situation by himself, and even had nagging doubts that he was actually scum. Thankfully, during the inevitable mass claim, Gamerz decided to counterclaim AK's Tracker claim, and got defended out of nowhere by Gigas1. The town correctly lynched Gamerz, who was the scum roleblocker, and lost Exsam at Night, who was the bodyguard and protected AK. Gigas1 lurked hard all game, and was ejected from the space station for his defense of scum Gamerz, ultimately flipping red as well. AK predictably died at Night, and the remaining players were Toastboy, Calvin, BigLlama, and Cyouni. Honestly, I had no idea which of the four were scum except that Calvin had the best town play of the lot, so after an agonizing Day Five, Toastboy and Calvin coin flip a Cyouni lynch FTW. Whew. Town Win!
Here I replaced Archon Kamigawa on Day Two after the Day One mislynch of vanilla Holymotheroftodd and the Night One death of bodyguard Seppel. She had been playing OK up to this point, and was the town one-shot vig. During my reread of the game, shibui (formerly Emo_Pinata, who had led the town as one of the most active posters in my first Mafia game) came across as lurky and insincere. SGT_Chubbz had also claimed doc, but included some flavor in his claim about having gloves and scrubs, which was contrary to my flavorless role PM. When I mention as much, shibui immediately changes his tone regarding Chubbz and calls for his lynch. When Chubbz flips scum, I'm sure that shibui was bussing him, and correctly put a bullet between his eyes. I get replaced by Silent Prophet at this point, but SP declines to do anything and is content to watch Teknolink's solid cop claim get countered by Udnam7am, who is lynched as the last scum. Town Win!
In this game, I am scum roleblocker along with back-up RB Buranri and goon Anaklumos. We are all terrible and die in the first three days. Oh, and Toastboy replaced me. In our defense, the setup was horribly skewed against the scum with a cop Yodavader, doc Cantripmancer, bodyguard Nis, and double-voter Big_Llama among the town, and despite killing the doc Night One, the cop nailed Anak and survived the Night because of the second protective role. The double-voter was mostly adding insult to injury, since he didn't use his ability in the early game when it may have made a difference. Scum Epic Fail...
My first non-Basic and my favorite game so far, despite my poor performance. The flavor in this game is top-notch, and I continue to be impressed at Axelrod's subtle, yet effective setup every time I think back on it. In this game, the Heroes were the scum, and I was Gandalf, Heroic Doctor/Balrog's Bane. This meant that besides being able to protect my scumbuddies from NKs, I would be the only player capable of killing the Balrog, and that if the Balrog attacked me or the player I was defending, both the Balrog and I would perish. From my role PM and the source material, I was under the impression that the Balrog was a SK as opposed to a town vig. At any rate, my buddies were zindabad (Frodo with a Godfather ability and protection from one non-Balrog NK), ZeDorkSlipeur (Boromir with a one-shot mass RB), jerubbaal (Legolas with a one-shot extra NK), and lrd (Pippin the rolecop). About one page into the game, RafaelK sets a trap visible from Mars, and lrd somehow steps on it. His claim of being "Pippin, Neutral Survivor" doesn't hold and he gets strung up. During the same day, I had managed to false-claim JoaT under minimal pressure, eliciting a general, "Really." response from the town and several calls for my vigging from players like RafaelK and Cyan, along with a helpful claim of one-shot vig from Yodavader. After lrd's lynch, we blow ZDS's RB horn, jerubbaal NKs Yoda, and I NK RafaelK. RafaelK turns out to be the cop, which makes zind's ability a lot less useful. I get lynched for my poor play and survival through the Night, but not without eliciting a vanilla town claim from Wrath_of_Dog via a completely fabricated ability. The remaining three scum curse the inadequate play of their fallen comrades, and wisely decide to kill Cyan, who is the Balrog Summoner. This bit of information is the first clue that the Balrog is not actually a SK, but I don't think any living player caught on to this fact based on Cyan's role. This becomes unimportant, as somehow the three remaining scum go the distance, lynching and NKing their way to LyoL with relative ease, hanging ImTehFairy the Balrog, town mandatory vig, along the way. During the mass claim at the end of the game, zindabad claims the Eye of Sauron with the ability to search for and convert Frodo into vanilla town, jerubbaal claims Gollum without giving any additional information, and ZDS claims vanilla Orc. Amazingly, the town buys these claims and mislynches Syrenz, giving the scum the win! Heroic Victory (Scum Win)!
TL;DR: I went 3-0-1 in my last four games to improve my overall record to 4-3-2. Also, you should play Mafia if you don't and play more if you do.

Considering how many ☺☺☺☺ty Izzet cards there are, unlikely. Also, some of those require building around them to be playable, and the other ones don't agree with the deck they want to be in.
