If that sheet basis it off attendance and that's the attendance mark gets, than idk..
Yeah, this part is exactly what happens. Wizards has a prize payout list that scales up as the event is more populated. It was designed to keep individual store owners from jacking their prize payouts to steal attendees from other shops hosting their own events.
This is a direct result of moving prereleases from the tournament organizers to the stores. The TOs were (effectively) a monopoly, but, because Wizards hooked them up with product, they could afford to be extravagant, prize-wise. Under the new system, product is intentionally limited so as to prevent both the business manipulation I mentioned above and the sale of excess prerelease product.

Considering it could be all that work for 2-2 and nothing, yeah, I'm fine with whatever. Obviously, I'd like better prize support. But it's unrealistic to expect it, given the nature of the business.

What he doesn't realize is that if Mark was just to trim out one or two of the events and increase the support a bit, he would get a much bigger crowd. As long as he is going to ride the line of the WotC print out and try to make money by jamming max events he will continue to lose people/profit. Remember, all of the product he gets is donated to him by WotC. He doesn't pay for pre-releases. It's absurd.

Well, then, we must convince Mark to try it the other way, for once, and tell him to compare and contrast. I'd be willing to bet, however, that he won't do it for RTR - either he's already (mentally or actually) "locked in" to it, or he's likely to think that RTR is going to be super awesome and everyone will want to play max flights, or he'll blame the move that never seems to happen.

I can already tell you Mark won't change it over for RTR because R.K. Post is going to be there, and somehow Mark thinks that his appearance at the event is going to jack up attendance to some huge absurd number. Yeah, right. The only thing I can name offhand that I know R.K. Post illustrated is a Swamp from Portal, and the only reason I know that is because I always drew that Swamp in the very first deck I ever played. Guess we'll have to hope he switches things up for the second set of the new block.
Lol I won't be attending specifically because RK Post will be there.

rk post has done a LOT of Magic cards. His art is very... distinctly his. One of his more notable cards is Avatar of Woe... More below.
Is he the OMG best Magic artist ever? No. His art is pretty good, though. I'll be looking forward to getting more cards signed by him. (A few years back, when Jacobson went to Seattle, he got my Simic Sky Swallowers, Fulminator Mages, and Lightning Angels signed by rk.)

Yeah, but Mark said to me directly that he won't allow us to trade in packs to play for free, because he is expecting RTR + Post to fill up the store. I hope for his sake it does, but I won't be there. I can pay 25 for sealed events with real prize support all day out here, there is no reason to make the trip to him if I can't rock free entry.
As far as his art, I see nothing of note outside of Morphling(dated/nostalgia), Ichorid(Leg/Vin Dredge), and Unmask(SB). Possible honorable mention to Faerie Macabre. The rest is stuff that was kind of relevant in Standard and pure garbage. Even AoW isn't that impressive as a card...it's not even around in EDH anymore that the format grew and people found good cards. Maybe it's in a T4 Stack, but it's one of the weaker men in that format too.

Also, still no word about shockland reprints. Closest we came to a confirmation was during a question about modern reprints, where Aaron Forsythe said that he thought some people will have figured out some of the reprint plans by now.
From the Vault lands still needs something exciting. There isn't yet any Berserk or Mox Diamond type highlight, but we do have 6 cards to go. Still hoping for a Wasteland or a Karakas.
Little daunted by the new yearly commander product. I get that they want to milk a profitable product while they can, I just hope they don't overdo it.
Maybe Orton will put an end to the Big Angst Show? Please?
Two other programming-related notes:
1. This crusty ol' thread will be replaced... Perhaps as soon as this evening.
2. Seems like Friday night shenanigans are in limbo, due to DMX's ditching us for some work social event (BOO!!! hehehe)... In any case, I'm open to suggestions, including having men come to my place for the after-hang. Unfortunately, I don't have DVR, so no Smackdown viewing... But I'm extending the invitation to all clan members (EDIT: if it's at my house), as we are scheduled to have an honored guest - none other than MTGS' own Technician, rianalnn. Show some love, folks.
