KK, you may be interested in this amazing new building they are putting up around the world. They're known as Libraries, Biblioteque, so on and so forth.
Honestly though, don't be afraid of cost. Go to the library and read. Borrow books. If you have a kindle, they're coming up with an awesome borrow system. I think Nooks have it too.
Ha ha, I forgot to mention I don't like libraries because I'm so forgetful they almost always turn into rental services where I pay half the price of a book that I finished in plenty of time to bring back, but never did.
Borrowing on a kindle sounds great though... I'll have to investigate, though I don't own a kindle or nook.

I thought about buying a kindle at one point, but I decided to spend the 150(?) that it was going to cost on real books.
I might get one if they put text books on for sale.

Yanni: I honestly think it's worth every penny. Many books that retail at $15 hardback are maybe $7.99. There's a large list of free books that are out of copyright, some of which are classics. Complete work of Sherlock Holmes, for example. Alice in Wonderland. There's a number of good things to do. They're starting to get cheap as hell too if you don't need the extras.
This is one of those odd consumer things people need to get away from. Yes, it's a downpayment. But it's more expensive now because it's cheaper later. It quickly catches up, then the savings overtakes the expense.
Cyouni: I recommend Terry Pratchett (Discworld). Possibly some old-school stuff like Sherlock Holmes. Larry Niven (Ringworld) is wonderful for Sci-Fi, and there's no going wrong with Asimov. If you're looking for some easy fantasy, Dianna Wynne Jones (of Howl's Moving Castle fame) is a good choice.

The thing is, most of the newer books I read are gifts. Everything else I buy used on Amazon, Ebay, or from this record store that I frequent. I don't have the extra cash to spend right now, but maybe later on I'll get a kindle.

I don't think a kindle is worth it unless you do a lot of reading, and used books are generally much cheaper than books on the kindle anyhow so I'd just stick with your current methods of reading.
Largely I find kindle's useless, and books are much more fun to read. Still, I find myself wanting one, but that's the technophile in me I guess.

In the summer I do a lot of reading in the pool and such. It's much easier to fix a wet book than it is a wet kindle.
I check Amazon today just because I was curious about the Kindle. The regular Kindle is 80 dollars, the Kindle Touch is 100, and the Kindle Fire is 200. Does anyone know if you have to have a 3G plan with these to be able to use them? If I was going to invest in a Kindle, it would likely be the Kindle Touch, as I only need to read books. My Ipod has enough space to fit movies and music that I would be able to watch on the kindle fire.

Let's see.
I remember liking the few bits of Discworld I read. Probably should pick up more.
Picked up the whole collection of Sherlock Holmes about half a year ago. Finished it a few months back.
Haven't heard of Niven.
Read Asimov a few years back.
I generally go to the library for most of my stuff, but I do pick up a personal copy of stuff I can't find or just really like.

One of the kindles strength is that it has free 3G where with the iPad you need one. They are also much cheaper.
Though to be honest I don't really see the point of 3G as I think I would download most of my books at home on Wi-Fi.

Niven writes a lot of books. His most famous, arguably, is Ringworld. He's a sci-fi author, but he's into 'hard' sci-fi. That is, he makes sure to explain everything, tries damn sure that it all fits actual scientific theories. His one-off Ringworld turned into 4-book series because he was answering fan questions. He also has a static universe (like Pratchett) that he writes in, so every story is part of the same universe and uses the same concepts.

It does have free 3G (they call it whispernet). The entire point is that you can buy a book and download it instantly. No paying for anything else. See also newspapers, magazines, the works. Email works too, as do static webpages like MTGS.
I never really wanted a kindle, but I was given one for Christmas a year or two back. I use it a lot.

Huh. I might look into getting one. Those are some awesome stats for something so cheap. The thing I'm most interested in is News/Magazines. I'm an avid reader of Time/NewsWeek and it would be nice to get them the day they go live. Do you know if they have subscriptions for those magazines that just insta-download onto your kindle? Nai, I'll have my thingy finished by today or tomorrow.
I'm currently rereading Pillars of the Earth (probably one of the greatest books ever), and after that I'm planning on starting the Dark Tower series.
Love The Dark Tower Series. I found book one a little dry, and not as well written as most of Kings books. By the third book though I was totally hooked, and I personally think the 3rd book is the best.
Best. Worst. Ending. Of. A. Novel. Series. Ever.

I think you have to actually get a kindle-specific subscription. But if you are paying for it, it does insta-download whenever one releases as long as the 3G is on.
I think they had a special for the New York Times where if you paid for a year of it, you got the kindle free.
And the kindle can fit a ton of books. I think the size quoted for mine (which is the $150) is somewhere around 3,000? Books are small, file-size wise.

Now I have to chose between a Kindle Touch with 3G and a Kindle Basic with 3G.
It's 110 v. 150 (not including shipping). Which do you think is the better buy? I saw some stuff that said the Touch OS is buggy and the basic doesn't work very well for Internet related things.

Pillars of the Earth was pretty great [I couldn't get through it but c'est la vie], Kindle books are tiny [5 MB?], etc.
Yanni, I'd pick the touch. I seem to remember the Basic doesn't have a keyboard. So now you can type out a website with the scrolling keyboard thing they have to put your name into arcade credits?

Do a bit more research before you buy outright. Check to make sure there's a Times and News subscription.
The Touch things (nook et al) aren't amazing. And they completely ruin everything's that good about the kindle. They are backlit screens, not e-ink. Which destroys battery life. It also isn't easy on the eyes, it doesn't refresh quickly, so on and so forth. They aren't the good kindles. Just a newly named iPad.
This is what I have, and something like that (maybe sans keyboard) is what I"d recommend.
You're NOT going to get a lot of good internet out of the basic. It's only good for static pages, like Sally. It's also a little unwieldy. Don't get the Kindle expecting good internet. Get it because it's a solid ebook reader that has a great backing out of a good company, has lots of books, is easy on the eyes, so on and so forth.
A Sublime Women
Of all the wonders, mysteries, and treasures the sea has to offer; she is beauty and majesty incarnate. As any painting I poured my entire heart and soul into of her would rival the Birth of Venus.
Her skin is so smooth and healthy like the most flawless pearl; for her beauty captures my soul like a bird in a cage, waiting to be set free.
She is my starlight that guides my way and the sunrise that sets my skies aflame with undying passion. She gives me hope like a new dawn and unchained joy. She is the muse who inspires my creations and the lovely visitor in my dreams.
Her voice is so enthralling, alluring, and even intoxicating for she leaves me captivated with her every word like the siren's of legend.
Her mere caress is as rejuvenating as a desert oasis for my thirst for love can only be quenched by her.
Her smile warms me to my very soul like how the cloudless sun warms the calm blue ocean for she keeps my spirits high even in my gloomiest of days.
When I'm around her, I feel I can brave even the harshest of storms with her by my side.
The spoiler contains a love poem I composed for my significant other on my own. Think of it as my demonstration to become a builder if not everyone does this.

The screen is E-ink. It's made in such a way that there's very little, if any, glare. There's no screen flicker or refresh on the non-touch versions, which means no migraines.
Right now, the two major WPs in progress are the MTG:RPG and the EW. Feel free to check into them, and let me know if you need help with either.
Thanks for the suggestions; I took a look around, and decided to stick to the familiar at first. In the process of joining a game in the P&PI.
The entire point of a World Project is that it is NOT hard to get into once it's well underway. They aren't quests. They aren't campaigns. It's not like the power level slowly creeps up and there's no place for a lower level character to train.
Thinking a quest/campaign like a standard RPG. A World Project is an MMO. It's persistent, and there's always stuff for low AND high level characters.
I haven't read a novel in so long (Outside of what was assigned in my lit class this semester) that I feel bad about not being able to answer that question.
