I like the "What are you listening to right now" thread and I was interested in what people on MTGS are reading. So what are reading and why?
I'm reading Haunted: A Novel by Chuck Palahnuik right now because Chuck is one of the best modern writers IMHO. It's pretty disturbing at parts though, so much so it's allegedly made 40+ people faint during readings of one of the short stories.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

Yeah, I don't see her handling a pissing match in any way other than a duel.

I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.

"Class Struggle and Resistance in Africa" (editted by Leo Zeilig, written by several authors)
Just started a few days ago, and I'm in love. It's hard hitting, filled with facts, and shows quite some good insight. I was happy to find a book on Africa with such topics.

Great idea and you're reading a great book.
I'm reading (for the third time) one of my top 5 favorite books of all time: Eon by Greg Bear. It's long and pretty heavy and very far out science fiction. I love it.
Meh, Palahniuk. He's a great guy [I met him once!], but his books just keep getting more sensationalistic and less ... well ... interesting. Lullaby's my favorite of his.
Currently ... I'm reading Infinite Jest for the fifth time. I have a feeling that I may never stop reading it ... I stopped once because I let my dad borrow my copy, but now I have two copies I've lent out and one copy on my iPod that I've been paging through.
Also reading Hell by Robert Oren Butler [It's good! But I'm only halfway in: it's a short book and I've heard it doesn't really progress, so we'll see].
I just read Anathem. It was FANTASTIC. I actually want to buy it after reading it[I buy books very rarely, since I'm in college/work at a bookstore for a pittance]. It slightly depresses me that Stevenson's very romantic in ways, just because I think it harms his books a little, but they're still great.

A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin (book 3 of the Song of Ice and Fire series).
For, like, the third time.
It's that good.
I can't wait for the fifth book...
This post is so true i had to quote it twice. I haven't given the series a re-read yet, but will do so in the near future...once the 5th book is a tad closer to release. Oh! HBO optioned the books to be made into a series -> 1 novel/season. They are going to start filming on the pilot episode in less than a month. Fingers crossed it's a series worthy of the novels.
I can't recommend the series enough. Get "A Game of Thrones" and read...it's not an easy read exactly, but WELL worth the effort it takes to keep track of things.
Randomly: I thought there was a book thread a long while ago that got somewhat sizeable. Should merge the threads and sticky these *****es.
I am currently reading "Memories of Ice" by Steven Erickson. Finished reading "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss recently. Memories is excellent so far, but is part of a difficult series and requires a lot of the reader. Similar to AGoT/ASoIaF.
The Name of the Wind is a much easier read, but is very, very good. First in a series, second book is coming soon. Has a very slick feel and style...kind of a weird blend of Ender's Game (A+ book that should be read by all) and Harry Potter with some seriously dark and dangerous thrown into the mix.
...whew. A bit longer than i had intended this post to be But for a topic such as books, well worth it
P.S - oh! Another book i recommend highly is "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. In a totally different vein than any of the stuff i mention above, but it's an eye opener. I wish everyone would read it and take the message(s) within to heart.
A couple books by Steven Pinker. I'm currently most enveloped in "The Language Instinct", but I'm also reading "The Stuff of Thought".
Also re-reading the Harry Potter series in Spanish because I couldn't fit a Spanish class in my schedule, so I'm trying to maintain it. (Yes, I realize how nerdy that is. :p)

Is that a fantasy series? I forgot to mention in my first post that I am almost always reading a fantasy no matter what other books I'm reading. Right now it's the Magic of Recluse series by L.E. Modesitt and I just got done with the Rigante series by David Gemmel. Both are VERY well written
Re-reading Terry Brooks. Hoping to find a new book from Modesitt, as I read most of them already, including all (but 2) of the Recluse Series.
Now I'm hunting down the Swords of Ice and Fire series.
Really, I read whatever I can get my hands on. I've got 22 books outstanding on my library card right now, all novels.

I am currently reading "Memories of Ice" by Steven Erickson.
I'm reading "Deadhouse Gates" right now. Don't spoil anything for me.
If anybody is interested in this series, the first book is "Gardens of the Moon", followed by "Deadhouse Gates", "Memories of Ice", and then a bunch more. It's a pretty decent fantasy story. It has good recommendations by Stephen R. Donaldson, creator of the excellent "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever" series, which is why I picked it up. My only qualm is that I find myself wishing at times that the narrative was less disparate and more tied together.
Necronomicon by H.P.Lovecraft I admit i had never read his work before, but im liking it, specially nice to read on a rainy day when the downpour gets so hard you cant hear anything else

Very good read. I was a little iffy at first because of all 'shock value' moments, but now that I'm a little further in, I feel like the author knew what he was doing.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
Couldn't finish book 3. Of all the fantasy series I've read, I found it to be one of the most political and well... boring. Even Wheel of Time, despite its author's sometimes ineptitude and propensity for spending half a page or more describing a certain style of dress or a particular kind of rock, was better. To each his own, as they say.
Jim Butchers Furies series and may I say they are amazing.
I am hooked and read book 1 practically in 1 sitting, just finished book 2 and had amazon prime drop book 3 on my lap today.
These may actually move above eddings books as my favourite ever.
I will have to look into this. You have me intrigued.
I am Actually in the middle of two series right now. I am currently reading So long and Thanks for all the Fish by Douglas Adams and The Two Towers by J. R. R. Tolken.
Both are great books, And I am Really enjoying the Douglas Adams books (A.K.A "The increasingly disproved Hitchhikers Trilogy").
