So, there's a girl I like in my Mythology 257 class (Don't judge me, I needed the Lit credit). I really want to invite her out to dinner or something this week, but I forgot to ask for her number/Facebook, and I DON'T want to wait another week to talk to her. So, I did what any red-blooded Computer Science major would do: I hacked the Blackboard for the class (not an overly impressive feat by itself, I'm aware) and found her last name to find her on Facebook. I have since found her and added her as a friend and made plans with her.
Now for the "problem": There's been a debate going on between a good friend of mine and myself. He says that what I did was creepy, while I, personally, think it's kind of cute, in a nerdy, computery kind of way. Go ahead and vote on the poll and let me know what you think of what I did. Please be brutally honest, as I'm not a sore loser.
(Also, there's 10 bucks at stake for whoever is "right" :X)
Please note that as this has already happened, nothing you do or say will make me not do it (Unless you build a time machine and...). Please keep any "legal" advice to yourself. I just want to know whether I'm getting 10 bucks or not.
Personally, I think it's pretty hilarious, but I wouldn't be too surprised if she thought otherwise. "I hacked blackboard to find out your last name because I couldn't wait" might come off as a bit stalker-ish, and probably not the best thing to start a conversation with over dinner.
If she's computer science as well though, it might come off as more flattering (if she realizes it apparently isn't hard to do)

The foolish wish for that which they desire. The cunning wish for that which they require.
Eh, regardless of her major, I'm ALMOST certain she likes me back, which I think makes it a little more flattering. Honestly, if a girl hacked ANYTHING to ask me out, I'd at least give her a shot.
I don't think it's creepy... all you did was find her on facebook... you just went VERY slightly out of your way to accomplish this. It's not like you looked at what dorm she lived in, then started camping out by her window every night.
I'm not going to vote, though. Cause even though I don't find it creepy at all, I also don't find it to be cute and I certainly don't think it's badass.
Personally, I think its neither... If its not really a feat to hack the website, you can't be badass for doing it.. So really I would put you at the 40% Lame and 60% Horny categories.

"Wizards could put $100 bills in packs and people would complain about how they were folded."
How is it creepy? You can find so much info by just looking at the Blackboard. Hell, you could look up her address without hacking. It's public info. Geez. GO FOR IT, BRAH! (Channelling bro power this early is not good)

Problem was, the teacher made all the student info private. So it wasn't as easy as looking it up.
That said, I DID mention that it wasn't an impressive feat in and of itself.
Assuming that you use the same Blackboard system as we do, there's an open directory. There wasn't even any need to hack anything. But yeah, GO FOR IT BRAH!

It is both at the same time. It is definitely amusing, and to a degree, awesome. Yet at the same time it is definitely creepy.
I'm going to side with the compliment, though. It's only slightly creepy, but definitely very amusing.

The Sage is occupied with the unspoken
and acts without effort.
Teaching without verbosity,
producing without possessing,
creating without regard to result,
claiming nothing,
the Sage has nothing to lose.
I mean, I don't know why everyone's saying it's creepy. It's not like he stole her phone number or address off of the site, all he did was find her name so he could get into contact with her. He just did it in a nerdy way.
Personally, I would be flattered. It shows your interest.
I voted for "cute/badass" but there should really be a category for "fine."
You wanted her last name. That's not really that big of a deal. I don't see how it is any different from asking around as to what her last name is. (Question, why didn't you do this?)
This reminds me of something a girl I dated said. We were talking about people we'd dated, and people who had asked us out, or who we'd asked out. She said that whenever anyone who she hadn't liked had asked her out, it had always felt creepy, no matter how they went about it. And if she liked the guy, things that would otherwise be creepy were "sweet."
Basically, making a lot of effort to connect with someone who likes you back = awesome
Making a lot of effort to connect with someone who doesn't = creepy
Naturally this isn't true, guys strike out all the time, and it can be awkward. But in your case, you read the girl right, she at least likes you enough to make plans with you. So you're fine, I think.
Tl;Dr - Not a big deal, your friend is crazy. Is this friend of yours in question single? Because sometimes shy, frustrated single guys have this mentality of, "what?? how DARE you make a move on a GIRL."

this is probably one of the more creepy things I have ever heard of anyone doing, and I am honestly not surprised at the standings of the poll. Magic kids, sheesh
The situation you described in the OP isn't a big deal in either way by itself. It's not enough to be stalker-ish behavior, but it's also not something that you should brag about.
I didn't vote because I believe it wasn't really any of the two. But I wouldn't recommend you telling her what you did, though. For most people, it would sound much more creepy than it actually is.

I rolled 5 D6's and got 3 fours. They must have changed the odds of getting a 4!
Clearly you're not quite settled with this, or you wouldn't have made the thread.
It is borderline creepy.
Relationships of any kind are built on trust and mutual respect. If she trusted you the first time around, she might have given you her last name or phone number. Instead of being patient and taking one step at a time, you jumped the gun. Shows initiative, but also shows impatience and immaturity, and an unhealthy respect for other people's boundaries.
I hope it works out for you. But if it doesn't, maybe next time you should think first before you act. Or if you're genuinely interested in her, ask her for her number or a way to keep in touch.
It's like what happened to me a while back. A guy started chatting with me at Starbucks one day. I briefly mentioned that I was playing on the same intramural basketball team with a friend he knew from high school. We exchanged handshakes (and first names) and then went our separate ways. He later looked up his friend's team roster, got my full name, and found me on facebook. We started talking on fb as well as meeting randomly across campus from time to time. It was cute! Too bad he never made a move though.
Borderline creepy would be following a girl to her car, memorizing the plates, then going to the school's transportation office (where the creep worked) and looking up the owner of the car. Believe it or not, this happened to my roommate back in undergrad.
I'll be honest, if she's a 6+ she's gonna think you're a creeper, if the girl is desperate (in a mythology class she full well may be i havent seen pics) she'll think you're sweet, but most girls over a certain level really don't go for guys like you, they like jacked douchebags.
Now if she actually says yes, DO NOT tell her what you did, or you'll be screwed. I really don't mean to sound like a douchebag or anything but most of the people giving out advice on relationships on here really aren't qualified to, for christsakes 32 people thought facebook stalking a girl is cute and badass.
It's not, it's kinda pathetic. Sorry just being the voice of reason among all the people giving you flowery words.
Its not something you wanna bring up on a first date or anything, because she might think its odd.
But it can be one of those things that you can both laugh about after a few months together. She might think its cute then.
I wouldnt say anything about it now.
