Oh, I'm not going to bother picking the folly of libertarianism apart, not here. But your MLK quote surely approves.
So you just wanted to say "you're wrong" and then "I don't want to discuss it"? Not very helpful. In fact, that's against forum rules. You rulebreaker!
(And your implication, that liberty is somehow wrong, is disturbing. Disturbing, but unfortunately not rare, these days.)
"An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and willingly accepts the penalty by staying in jail to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the very highest respect for law." - Martin Luther King
Now whenever I smoke weed I will think of the good Reverend and how proud he'd be that I'm breaking the law in order to respect it.
In fact I think I'll light up a blunt tomorrow on MLK day in solidarity with his vision of a world full of stoners.
Right on.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up from our couches and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all munchie foods are created equal." - Martin Luther King
that liberty where just Ted Bundy is wrong and not such various acts made illegal by laws libertarians despise, is wrong.
I'm gonna need a translation, if you intend me to understand your point. But like you said before, you don't want to talk about it. Thanks for posting?

Sounds good, although I don't know (I honestly don't know) if he was talking about that specific act when he wrote that, but if its "a law your conscience tells you is unjust", it qualifies.
I'm in the majority in my province (BC) that favour decriminalization of cannabis. I believe it's somewhere around 70% lately.
Show me one instance of Ted Bundy actually speaking out against the law. Last I heard he was quoted as saying "I just like killing people", not that he thought it should be legal. Furthermore, he explicitly stated that he thought people should be protected from people like him. Then when we get into just how invalid the comparison to lighting up a joint in your basement away from people to murdering them truly is it is easy to see that your one liner was neither funny nor accurate.
Back on the subject at hand, after reading a bit more of this thread I must say I can see AlmostGrown's point about his friends becoming suicidal. If I had to hang around that guy I would totally kill myself.
Yeah... I didn't understand how your post really related to my predicament :/
Oh. Well, you probably don't care to hear my opinion, because it likely differs from yours. But if you do, please clarify what your predicament actually is, and I'll give my slant. If you don't, no offense taken.
I think pot should be legalized but only to people 21 and older, since teens can't really handle anything; whether it be cars, drinking, awkward situations or homeroom pop quizzes.

Nice
More seriously now, I don't recommend cannabis for children or young teens. I'm not up on the current research, but I do know that there's some evidence supporting the claim that it affects undeveloped brains. Just like I think we should protect 10-years-olds who THINK they're ready for sex, we should also protect young teens who THINK they're ready for thc.
21 might not be the number (perhaps 18 or 19 would fit better, I'm not sure) but yeah.
Once somebody is capable of thinking clearly for themselves, and accessing real research on the issue, they're free to do anything they want with themselves.
I agree, 18 seems like a more realistic legalization age. If pot hit hard enough, perhaps it could even help be a kind of replacement for smokers. Who knows?
I, being a smoker, also find it much easier to reach my "smoked out" limit (when I don't feel the need or want to smoke anymore, as I achieve the feeling I was going for) when smoking weed, than when smoking cigarettes. A couple bowls of pot compared to 4-5 cigarettes... the pot just seems better.

Forgive what might be my ignorance, but this seems to be non sequitur. If it has to do with undeveloped brains and veritably different effects, then aren't you saying it's... not like protecting 10-year olds from sex at all?

Sorry, I probably didn't explain my position well. But judging by your comical reply to the other half of my post, I think you got what I meant. In a nutshell, I think once a person has developed to the point where they're able to comprehend the major pros and cons of an issue, they're capable of deciding for themselves. 10-year-old sex probably was a bad example. (It usually is!)
Hopefully this chart is on-topic enough for this "drugs and alcohol" discussion. I present it here for those who haven't seen before:
EDIT: I located some numbers for the USA. Angus Reid just found 53% of Americans favour decriminalization of cannabis. (The other 47% are doctors, police, govt, military, pharma, or laywers :p)
In my opinion, they should just legalize pot and tax the crap out of it. The government could make a giant profit off of it. Just put restrictions on it like alcohol.

The problem being that it is a lot easier to manufacture pot in a manner that makes it easy to get by such restrictions than it is to produce good alcohol without anybody knowing about it. Sure, you could tax pot, and you'd probably get a good number of people buying the legal stuff, but I'm willing to wager there would still be a great deal of "underground" operations.

It's pretty easy to grow tomatos too, but people still go to the grocery store and buy them from big name companies. And in this case, if pot were legal, what you call "underground operations" would just be your local farmer's market. In other words, no big deal.

That even is changing with law enforcement looking at where the money is going trying to deal with these people. More often people are looking at the risk cost analysis for the War on Drugs, and finding it to not be worth the price of admission and instead working through more outreach programs.

Actually, just to spite everyone who says "Drugs are bad," this weekend, I will be either buying 2 ecstasy pills, a drop of acid, or half a gram of cocaine to try. Not sure which one yet, probably the easiest to get. Why, you ask? Because I can.

Well, the OP won't reply to my questions asking for clarification, so I can actually respond to what HE wants me to respond to.
I won't remember to check back here, so if anyone has anything they'd like me to read and/or reply to, PM me.
