In the last few days I've developed this weird thing where I seem to do this clenching like/sucking in/tightening of my stomach throughout the day. It's not painful or anything - and its not quite involuntary - but only voluntary in the way that scratching is for someone with eczema.
Its weird. I feel like when I'm distracted with things such as typing this it doesn't happen. But as soon as I stop I keep clenching, then releasing. Few seconds later I do it again. Its pretty much second nature now and isn't really affecting me... but still, kinda weird.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Thanks

Which muscles (e.g., intercostals, transversus abdominis, rectus abdominis, pyramidalis) and where abouts (stomach, for real?) are you having spastic contractions?
What do you seek? Merely others that have experienced "something similar"?
It this after eating or drinking?
If it's something that worries you, see a GP (who might refer you to, say, a neurologist); thank goodness for bulk-billing and Medicare.
I'm not quite the expert in stomach muscles :/ But if it's anyhelp, facing the screen its the whole front, lower centre bit that contracts, but the muscles on either side that I feel the most and bring for the urge to contract.
I'm really hoping for a diagnosis if its something common, and if not guidances as to whether to see the doctor or not. I think it may have started after I did some goalkeeping training a couple of days ago - a lot of diving and falling over... but I can't be sure and this very well mightn't be the case.

Involuntary movement of any sort can be an indicator of neurologic stuff, so if you want to play it safe - I'd see a doctor and get evaluated (likely an MRI required for full evaluation).
However, I will say that you make it sound incredibly minor - I'd personally think it's just a nervous reflex you've developed, like an odd benign tic.
But as I stated in the first paragraph, neurologic damage manifests in tons of bizarre ways, so if you're playing it absolutely safe - see a doc. It's more than likely not anything, but if it is and it's something that can be stopped most types of neuro damage isn't reversible - so those waiting until it's really worrisome can freeze it at a really bad point.
The first thing that popped into mind and is a relatively common condition is multiple sclerosis (MS).
Do you experience or think that you experience any other symptoms?
How have you been mentally and healthwise-but-beyond-mentally? Nervousness can set off muscle spasticity, as can poor health due to, say, nutrition.
As no one can or should diagnose or be diagnosed over the Internet, I would be loath to offer more than see a GP and to play chicken with health if I could be bothered to see a doctor. My apologies.
OK Guys. I think I'll see my GP because I just had football trials and the whole time where I was running around it kept doing it and it was slightly uncomfortable.
Howeverrr....
It does feel like more of a nervous tic. It seems like something that I can stop if I try hard enough, but only momentarily. It's like my eczema I had when I was young. If I tried hard enough I wouldn't scratch, but one lapse of thought and I'd scratch...
HOWEVERRRR...
I'm also inclined to think its something to do with the muscles - because just as typing this I figured out that if I life my back off the backrest of the chair and put my feet up (in otherwords contort my body to a different shape) it seems to go away somewhat :/

Maybe it's Tourettes? I know that can manifest itself in strange ways. I have it, but it's faded almost completely now. I used to have all sorts of weird tics like moving my head all over to crack my neck, blinking my eyes constantly, chewing my inner cheeks, etc. Like you said, if I focused on it I could control it, but if I lapsed for a little bit I'd start doing them again.

It could be Tourette's/Tourette syndrome but it doesn't quite fit the profile.
Of course, said profile is a bit lacking in sufficient detail for a nub like myself.

I'm sorry. I got confused with the "however"'s.
I presume you've seen your GP. How goes it? I do hope that you are well and all.
i had that few years back. i couldnt do number 2 properly because i clenched so often and hard. i went to see a doctor and he pulled out the glove and lube.
after the examination, he said that there were nothing wrong with my physical body. my clenching was brought on by anxiety and stress....though i do admit that i was going thru a rough patch in my life back then.
I like to bite my tongue sometimes. Is this some kind of Tourettes?
Probably not. Tourette's typically involves multiple tics and it has nothing to do with "liking to do it". The tics of someone with Tourette's are something that they are incapable of permanently suppressing. Than can suppress them for a little while, but it usually results in an outburst of doing the tics when they can no longer be suppressed. It's like a buildup of the need to do the the tics, and then when you can't take it any longer and/or no one is around you just go crazy doing a whole ton of them with an accompanying feeling of relief when you finally do them. The tics often decrease in frequency and severity as the person gets older, but not always. No one would ever know that I have it now, the tics faded away in my early-to-mid 20s.
If you just like biting you're tongue, it isn't Tourette's.
Hi, I know exactly what you’re talking about, I do the same thing. For me I think it’s connected to the fact that my dad has ticks from Tourettes. Sometimes I will go through months of getting these weird clenches in my stomach and then it will go away for a long time. I think it has to do with stress, anxiety, and my genetics. You should talk to a doctor to get much more accurate information. Also when I do the clenching of my stomach a lot of times I clench my jaw too. Hope this helps.
