After some discussion, this is how Power Ranking voting is going to work:
* Voting will be open for 4 days.
* Votings opened on Monday will be closed on Thursday (pending participation).
* Votings opened on Thursday will be closed on Monday (pending participation).
* The VOTING thread will be for posting your votes only.
* Results will be posted, in their own thread after voting is closed.
* Discussion regarding the results will take place in the RESULTS thread only.
* Voters are to rank the Top 20 cards for each group according to what they would take at Pack 1, Pick 1 (P1P1).
* Please rank your cards from #1 through #20, with #1 being the card you would take over all the others.
* Votes will be tallied with each card getting a composite score to determine its ranking in the group.
* Please rank all 20 cards. Partial lists will not be accepted.
Here's how the Power Rankings have been explained in the past:
Quote from Silent Edge »
February 8, 2010
This is a resource to be used in as many ways as possible. I originally had the idea on my drive into work to help myself and my friends who were new to the Cube determine which cards are the best to be picked early (read: have decks build around them). There are the cards that we've all used in other formats that were absolute houses that are probably complete rubbish in the Cube (Anyone actually run Arcbound Ravager in their Cube?). The concept here is that the experienced and inexperienced alike share their thoughts and ideas on what cards are most worthy of being taken first. Power level, castability, splashability and core strength (when I say "core strength", I refer to "cards that decks can be built around").
Last year, we learned that there are cards that are better than others. We also learned of cards that we should have in our Cubes that may not even be there. Personally, I don't care WHAT we learn, as long as we all learn something.
ANY AND ALL CARDS ARE OPEN TO BE VOTED ON.
This includes Unglued, Portal sets, etc. If you truly believe it to be one of the Top 20 cards you would take at Pack 1, Pick 1 -- then place it accordingly.
Here's a couple of cool quotes I found that will help all the voters in understanding what to/what not to vote for:
CARDS WITH THE DIFFERENT NAMES BUT SIMILAR EFFECTS:
Some are keeping it the same card and some are keeping them separate, any consensus on what we should do?
Quote from wtwlf123 »
Geddon and Ravages of War are the same. Wrath and DoJ aren't.
Players can assume that the power-level of Geddon and RoW are the same, so you don't need to vote for 'em twice. If you want Both Wrath and DoJ to make the top 20, you need to vote for both of 'em.
For the record, people listed "Armageddon/Ravages of War" as a single entry. Wrath and Day of Judgment are separate entries. It's convenient that these are White cards, but this will hold true for any cards, in any group that have the same exact effect but may have different names (Wildfire and Burning of Xinye immediately come to mind).
CARDS YOU MAY NOT HAVE IN YOUR CUBE, BUT HAVE PLAYED WITH/AGAINST:
Quote from Konfusious »
This is quite hard to do. I did not include cards I do not play in my cube, namely Moat that would probably make my list but I have no idea where I would put it, not having played with it and all.
Quote from Silent Edge »
Perfect. If you don't run the card, haven't never played against it or just don't know about it -- do NOT vote for it. Well done.
"Taking a stab" at what you think a card is ranked at based on what you see other people rank it, or whatever you think it may be can skew the numbers. If you're not sure, it is PERFECTLY acceptable to not vote for it. I doubt very much that anyone in the group will call you out on it, but "I've never played with or against the card" is a great answer for not ranking it.
Quote from rantipole »
Well I don't have Moat in my cube, but I've played with and against Moat often enough that I feel comfortable with how high I would pick it in cube. That said, I mostly agree with you. It's going to be very difficult for me to rate Power 9 as I have rarely come in contact with those cards and have never personally played them.
Cheers,
rant
I'll be throwing all the above information into EACH voting group, so as we may add voters who missed a group or 2 or 5, they can jump in and have all that info available to them.
Alright, enough with the pleasantries. Here's the 2009 and 2010 Power Rankings for Artifact...
PLEASE NOTE:
Since Artifact's last Power Ranking, the following sets/blocks have been released:
Magic 2011 - Magic 2014
Rise of the Eldrazi
Scars of Mirrodin Block
Innistrad Block
Return to Ravnica Block
Theros Block
Commander
Commander's Arsenal
Commander 2013 Conspiracy is NOT to be included in this year's Power Rankings
NOTE FOR ARTIFACT VOTING
Please include all non-color related artifacts in this group. Cards that are directly colored related such as Spear of Heliod, Crystal Shard and Birthing Pod have already been included in their associated color groups. Cards such as Baleful Strix, the Ravnica Signets and the Mirrodin Talisman are to be included in the Guild group.
Please group all of the Original 5 Moxes as "ABU Mox Jewelry" as a single entry.
Also, cards like Karn Liberated, All is Dust and the Eldrazi robots should be included in this group. Please make note of this.
That's just a reminder that while 2009 and 2010 can be used as a reference, that's ALL it should be used for. Be sure to compile as complete of a ballot as you can.
With ALL OF THAT said...2014's Power Rankings have now begun.
Silent Edge's Tidbits of Wisdom: The Lewis Theory - When the presence of a single card makes every other card in your deck better (see Lewis, Ray). The Rubber Edict - You'd rather have it and not use it, than need it and not have it. The Shotgun Wedding - Don't commit early unless you absolutely have to.
This is not going to be easy. I would wait to tabulate my selections until after voting closes (if you weren't doing that already) because I'm probably going to make a few edits.
1. Sol Ring
2. Umezawa's Jitte
3. Library of Alexandria
4. Skullclamp
5. Mana Crypt
6. Mana Vault
7. Grim Monolith
8. Wurmcoil Engine
9. Batterskull
10. Karn Liberated
11. Tangle Wire
12. Sensei's Divining Top
13. Winter Orb
14. Sword of Fire and Ice
15. Thran Dynamo
16. Smokestack
17. Rishadan Port
18. Sword of War and Peace
19. Maze of Ith
20. Myr Battlesphere
If Conspiracy cards were included, I can only imagine how messed up the pick order would be when considering the draft-altering cards. Heck, Coercive Portal is probably pretty strong in cube too.
I omitted cards like Baleful Strix and Sphinx of the Steel Wind because of their color requirements. If Phyrexian Metamorph is to be treated in the same manner, have it removed and have Sword of War and Peace placed at 20. If Karn Liberated and/or Eldrazi cards are to be counted... well, I'd probably have to re-do the whole list
Baleful Strix (Dimir), Sphinx of the Steel Wind (I actually count this as a straight "Artifact" in my Cube, but should be counted as a Wedge), Phyrexian Metamorph (Blue) and their ilk are all colored cards.
However, Karn Liberated and the Eldrazi robots should be included in this group.
Feel free to revise your list until Monday morning
Silent Edge's Tidbits of Wisdom: The Lewis Theory - When the presence of a single card makes every other card in your deck better (see Lewis, Ray). The Rubber Edict - You'd rather have it and not use it, than need it and not have it. The Shotgun Wedding - Don't commit early unless you absolutely have to.
1. Blacker Lotus
2. Black Lotus
3. Sol Ring
4. ABU Moxen
5. Umezawa's Jitte
6. Skullclamp
7. Mana Crypt
8. Mana Vault
9. Grim Monolith
10. Wurmcoil Engine
11. Phyrexian Metamorph
12. Batterskull
13. Tangle Wire
14. Sensei's Divining Top
15. Winter Orb
16. Sword of Fire and Ice
17. Gilded Lotus
18. Thran Dynamo
19. Coalition Relic
20. Smokestack
We already decided that Phyrexian Metamorph is blue. You need to change your list already
Second edit: Okay, so after all of that drama - my list is good, right? I'm not putting lands on it and it stands as-is. Though I wish that Phyrexian Metamorph were counted as a colorless card because it would definitely make my top 20 even in this stacked section.
Moxen/Lotus are colored artifacts? That's just weird. Are there enough colored artifacts to even do a top 20? What about City of Brass? I don't understand why we are splitting these like this. I don't think anyone classifies Moxen/Lotus/City/etc as colored cards.
Missed the others, but figured I'd get in on this:
1 Sol Ring
2 Umezawa's Jitte
3 Skullclamp
4 Sword of Body and Mind
5 Karn Liberated
6 Black Vise
7 Sword of Light and Shadow
8 Batterskull
9 Wurmcoil Engine
10 Sword of War and Peace
11 Nevinyrral's Disk
12 Myr Battlesphere
13 Mana Vault
14 Grim Monolith
15 Solemn Simulacrum
16 Smoke Stack
17 Gilded Lotus
18 Sword of Feast and Famine
19 Thran Dynamo
20 Tangle Wire
This is based on personal experience, admittedly I've not played with Sword of Fire and Ice. I Didn't include it in my list for that reason but it seems to rank fairly high and without it my table might be a bit skewed.
I'm not gonna vote on this one until we figure out exactly what we're voting on. I don't know that there are enough color oriented cards in my colorless section to warrant a top 20. I think this section should probably be a Top 25 and be all inclusive for Moxen (one vote for all 5), Lotus, Library, Karn, City of Brass, Jitte and everything in between.
I agree that this is an awkward way to divide artifacts/lands. Also why are we even grouping artifacts and lands together? I'm going to have to abstain here since the categorization is so far removed from my own cube. Be back for guild voting!
A lot of us group lands and artifacts (and Karn) together in a colorless section. That part makes sense. Splitting out the Moxen/etc. doesn't
It feels weird not including Coalition Relic on this list or am I understanding this wrong and it should be in this section? I would much rather just be voting on colorless spells and any lands that don't fit into a guild or one color right now.
Right. The idea behind the colorless section is that it incorporates all cards that aren't aligned to a specific color/set of colors. The ABU Moxen being the lone exception, because they're really playable everywhere. The best solution would be to increase the number of cards in this vote, and allow people to vote on all cards that aren't monocolored or guild-aligned, IMHO.
Originally, we ran ARTIFACTS and LANDS all as one group, which I'm far more inclined to do, given it's simplicity. I'm all for running it that way and straying away completely from breaking these groups up, which leads to far too many crossover/confusing groupings. It took me a while just to come up with how to word the color/colorless breakdown, and that's a sign.
Seeing as how 2009 and 2010 are our basis for what's what for the 5 single color groups and gives us an idea of what's what, it is a lot more intuitive and constructive to leave the groups as ARTIFACTS and LANDS for information gathering purposes and to learn from where we've been the last 5 years.
PLEASE revise your list to this criteria if you have already posted one.
EDIT: OP edited to reflect this group's criteria for voting.
Thank you for the discussion, clarification and in some cases, the straight up refusal to vote on such a confusing group
I'm all for a colorless/artifact section that is 20 or 25 deep (I'd prefer 25). Splitting the voting into lands and artifacts doesn't make much sense to me as the amount of colorless lands you'd take P1P1 is probably around or below 10 cards.
I think I'm only running 11 lands that are utility (Maze of Ith, Library of Alexandra, Bazaar of Baghdad, Strip Mine, etc) or 5-color fixing (City of Brass and crew). The top 20 list of these lands would be really odd, and I'd like to know how people rank them when comparing them to other colorless cards like Black Lotus, Moxen, etc.
Grouping all the ABU Moxen together sounds like the best plan as well -- we'll all have our preferences when it comes to what color mox to take if there are two in a pack, but generally I'd think they don't go that much higher or lower based on what color they are in relation to other cards. I'd rather see more unique cards on the list rather than 5 spots taken up by Mox Sapphire, Mox Jet, Mox Ruby etc.
Thanks for the clarification. It's not how I'd break it down, but at least it's clear. Karn and Eldrazi and stuff go here, right? Basically all non-land colorless cards?
Isn't it weird to group the moxen together and have Wildfire and Burning of Xinje seperate? The difference between a Mox jet and a Mox Sapphire is bigger then between the Wildfires.
Not that I propose we split them up, more that we should have those together as well.

I'm forcing this back into the old groupings. Please vote on ALL artifacts in this Group.
The only artifacts that will not be included here are cards such as Spear of Heliod, Crystal Shard, Vedalken Shackles, Whip of Erebos, Birthing Pod, Hammer of Purphoros, Shrine of Burning Rage, etc. as they were included with their associated color groups. Cards such as Baleful Strix, the Ravnica Signets and the Mirrodin Talismans are not to be included here, as they go in the Guild group.
PLEASE revise your list to this criteria if you have already posted one.

I think I'm only running 11 lands that are utility (Maze of Ith, Library of Alexandra, Bazaar of Baghdad, Strip Mine, etc) or 5-color fixing (City of Brass and crew).
