Genesis Hydra - XGG
Creature - Plant Hydra
When you cast ~, reveal the top X cards of your library. You may put a nonland permanent card with converte mana cost X or less among them onto the battlefield. Then shuffle the rest into your library.
Genesis Hydra enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters on it.

I'd definitely give it consideration. The G-Wave aspect to the card is more like a scaleable cascade, where more mana means you get more control over what you hit. I like that if you have topdeck manipulation, you can just turn him into Wood Elves if you need.
I think the X has to be really high before this becomes worth it. If it's not high enough, you won't be digging deep enough to hit a card of the right CMC. I can't imagine using this over one of green's better 5+cc creatures. If it could hit lands, it would be significantly better.
I get everyones feelings on this card. However, this is green, a color where ramping is easy and its a creature too.
I think its worth a test. It might surprise all of you, or fail me
Well, the Hydra is monocolored, scalable and you choose which card to keep. On the other hand, the Hydra has -1/-1 and it may miss completely. I hadn't thought of this card, but I guess the Hydra is pretty similar to a monogreen Enlisted Wurm.
I really wonder why they put that "nonland" restriction on it. Without it, one might have more reliably gotten value out of a smaller Hydra.
I am guessing it's nonland because there will be a rampant growth-type card in M15, and the restriction is about the standard environment, not the card power level.
Buu not hitting lands. But imagine that - if you paid 2GG, got a 2/2 and 2 lands into play (tapped assumed). That's quite some value. It could be a templating thing? Lands come into play tapped may be too many words.
I agree with Star Slayer; think it's about on the same power level as Enlisted Wurm. Scaleability and searching should help make up for the occasional miss. Probably reasonable in larger cubes, but I think it would be iffy at 540.
First I thought this was really sick...
Then I realized I should never cast this for less than 6 mana, and ideally 8-10 mana.
Only playable in green mega ramp decks, but pretty good in that archetype.
Then I realized I should just probably just be running genesis wave if thats the case.
It does have synergy with a deck focused more on counters, though. Vorel of the Hull Clade, Bred for the Hunt, etc. *And* it helps if you have high predictability of your mana curve. If you know your deck has a bunch of solid 4-cost permanents (say hello to Vorel's friend Mr. Master Biomancer), and not too many that cost more than 4, then you *know* you ought to cast it for X>=4. I have a really fun Simic go-crazy-with-counters deck that it works pretty well in.
I don't think it is great, but I do think it could find a nice niche as a sideboard/trump card against control, where putting the card into play does get around counter spells which can really destroy a ramp deck. And if there is a 4-5 color aggro/zoo deck in your cube this could be a sweet 5 drop to put that last bit of pressure on the board.
I don't think it makes your 360; but I would like to see it in my friends 630 as there are two decks that may fight for it on the wheel which could be pretty interesting.

EDIT: I stand corrected on hitting lands.

Overall, I am not impressed. Interesting card, but probably not strong enough.
Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker R -- Maga, Traitor to Mortals B -- Ghave, Guru of Spores BGW -- Sliver Hivelord WUBRG
Yep, I stand corrected. That makes the card significantly worse.

It only hits a permanent. Not every permanent. So even if it could hit land cards, you'd never get more than one.

This doesn't have that, and it's not very exciting to play this as a 5-mana 3/3 or a 6-mana 4/4 which may or may not put something relevant into play.
