I noticed wtlf123 was running Bosh, Iron Golem and I picked one up as a toss-in in a trade today. What are peoples experiences with this card? It seems like an amazing sneak attacker when you have available. It would also be good as a reanimator or tinker target but it seems like you would want to at least be splashing red if that was the case.
You want to have red available, but he's a good monster for artifact builds and he's fine for sneaking into play and stuff. If you can use his ability, he can represent at least 14 damage in 1 round, and he can close out the game by himself it he can attack more than once and then fling himself. I really like to use him with Welder and Daretti because he can close out games really fast. He also works with Through the Breach if you do it at the end of your opponent's turn. You can get an attack and a fling in that way too.
It's still a card I consider to be in the testing stages, but it's been doing well enough for us. If not, Bogardan Hellkite is a scary creature for big red decks (which is the card that would go back in if Bosh fails in the long run).
I added it to my cube recently after playing it in someone else's. Bosh is a house. Unanswered, he's going to win the game on his own in short order, quite possibly on the next turn (perhaps the current turn if you Sneak him into play). The other cube is different from mine, so I'm eager to see how Bosh does the next couple of times we draft with mine.
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
Thinking about adding this big guy to my cube! I don't know what to cut yet but I will certainly figure it out because he is really appealing me as another way to diversify red identity. Any recent thoughts on his performances?
He seems insane in a shell that mix Welder/Daretti Combo and Artifact-Ramp strategies.
He's been okay for me as a solid large red drop. At first I had him classified as colorless but that was wrong, he's definitely red. He's a unique card that has played well with non-aggro red archetypes.
if the mods are reading this thread and making changes, can someone change the "wake thresher" thread title as well? i didn't want to bump the thread, but it was kindof a pain to find for a while when i was looking for some thoughts on wake thrasher.
EDIT: And because the above alone is spam, I'll chime in while I'm at it.
I've considered adding this guy, but have been trying to figure out what to cut for him. He'd live in mono-red, and at this point, I'm considering axing Mizzium Mortars for him (since I don't want to axe either of my other 6cc+ creatures: Inferno Titan and Greater Gargadon) and Mortars has basically just been a 2cc Flame Slash.
I think Bosh is a bit underpowered, but since I included Goblin Welder, Daretti, Scrap Savant and even Scrap Mastery, a fatty for a red artifact deck seemed like a must-have. And I have certainly seen him win games very quickly.
(Btw, I am also going to cut Mizzium Mortars soon. I like the flexibility, but triple red is annoying.)
Thoughts?
