Welcome to Secret Neighbor's mafia! This is an open set up Micro game.
This game will have 5 town and 2 mafia with the only power role being a town jailkeeper. Each player will choose another to open a chat with. That chat will be open as long as both players are alive.
Alive:
1. tomsloger
2. Rodemy
6. shadowlancerx
7. Ganderin_Dan
Dead:
1. Vezokpiraka Mafia Goon
2. Ecophagy Town Jailkeeper
3. Bur Vanilla Town
Rules:
1. Be good to each other. Follow all the forum rules, but mostly be good to each other.
2. Play to the spirit of the game. Don't try to circumvent the hidden information. It's supposed to be a game of hidden information. Don't try to get around that, whether by copying your PM, editing posts, or other nefarious means.
3. If you're dead don't post. If you're not in the game don't post. Thanks!
4. Please try to be active and post. After 48 hours without posting you'll have 24 hours to make a real post.
5. Please vote in Bold Text in the Vote: Name format.
6. I reserve the right to punish as I see fit for breaking any of these rules.
7. Have fun!
PM's will be going out shortly, once 5 players reply I'll start the game.
PM's have gone out. Contradicting previous announcements the game will not start till all player's have replied due to the importance of pregame in this setup.
Town wins when all mafia are elimnated
Mafia wins when they control the lynch by equaling or exceeding town in numbers.
Phases will be 1 week long and I will be fudging lengths to make sure no phase ends on a weekend.
The game has started now. Please let me know if any of your links are broken. Deadline is being pushed to 12:01am EST Tuesday the 17th to avoid a weekend deadline.
What do you think the pros and cons are of revealing neighbours now (or ever)?
I think there is no differences between them, except in extreme corner cases (terry posting the kill in prison block mafia in his neighbour qt instead of the scumchat and having to change to kill to his neighbour which made almost no sense)

there's, like, a real small chance of catching anyone in a lie with it.
And way more fun to just keep hidden. Really hoping to eventually be able to conspire against scum in private at some point.

Could you clarify what there's no difference between? Revealing now or later, or between revealing and not revealing?
Also, after sacrificing some though to neighbour chats, I don't mind them being hidden for time being, but I kinda want to see them claimed at some point, preferably at L-2 at least.

Rodemy Pizza
It’s not the best choice, but it’s a choice nonetheless
What do you think the pros and cons are of revealing neighbours now (or ever)?
Idk if this was specificly for tom, but i have a few answers:
Pro: If scum pick their partners as neighbors, we can catch them that way if they claim at l-2, as bur suggested. They can also lie about who their partner is and we can catch them early.
Con: They could have chosen another townie or been chosen by a townie, and them claiming their partner is.. not likely. People could have multiple chats (EX: tom picks bur. shadow picked tom. etc etc.) I doubt we are gonna catch scum this way.
I think claiming neighbors would ultimately be a bad thing. it will cause a lot of wine, and scum could actually have been picked by town. And i don't see how we can catch scum this way

So you're saying neighbour claims are bad because scum may or may not have chosen their buddy, and therefore this WIFOM prevents it being used to hunt scum? Is "the information might be WIFOM" sufficient reason in your mind to not claim, or can you see a way it might actively harm the town?

I'd also like to add to that we can the information who has chats with whom to hunt people.
Easiest way is to re-read the game with the the information about neighbour-pairs in mind and see if something weird sticks out.
And while reasons for why people picked their pairs will probably be mostly NAI, something might come out of that too.
Oh, and Rodemy. I don't serve cockroaches, even they don't survive the winter in Finland.
I do have some smoked reindeer though

Bad thing; Cause a bunch of wifom. Like, why did you pick who you picked? Was there a specific reason or did you just go: I like this person.
You don't know anyones alignment if you are town. So you just pick someone you like. Scum MIGHT pick each other. but like, I'm not banking on that winning us the game.

It's so i can see what his mindset is. The only way someone would think we could catch scum by seeing who picked who is someone who had to put a lot of thought into who they picked.

What examples of pairs that don't make sense do you think exist?
Looking at the player list there aren’t many that I would raise my eyebrows super hard for; mostly just people that are completely unfamiliar with each other. But it really is not a make or break factor in this game.
Like, it won't solve the game. If people really wanna do it and see it actually solving the game, please, by all means do it.
But i see no way we will catch scum by claiming neighbors.
I think you're underselling the value of it (I think it'd be more valuable than worthless, even if it just keeps people honest over who they're talking to privately), but I'm not exactly advocating for a mass claim of neighbours right now.
I also don't like your apparent contradiction, but I'm prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt. I don't think this kind of semantic, technical contradiction has a particularly high hit rate as a scum tell anyway.
Eco, how much thought did you put into picking your neighbor?
I put some thought into picking my neighbour. The reasons are not incredibly complex, but it was a lot more than closing my eyes and pointing at the player list. What does this tell you about my mindset?
Also, where is the wine? Don't say all of it. I am pretty sure asking eco how much thought he put into his neighbor choice isn't wine.

What? Nervous? Me? No. Why would i be nervous? I have no reason to be nervous. You are nervous. I am not nervous. Nervous? Who said nervous?
I was questioning the wine he was supposedly saying i was "pouring"
I admit, i was confused about the setup due to what i THOUGHT it was compared to what it ACTUALLY is.
What i thought it was: Scum have the option of choosing someone. No daychat for them.
What it ACTUALLY is: Scum have the option of choosing someone. Also, they get daychat between them.
That's why i was so called WIFOM'ing. I was trying to figure out the pros and cons of what i THOUGHT was the setup.
Now that i am clear on what the set up ACTUALLY is:
i do believe there is no benefit to claiming. EVERYONE gets a choice in who to pick. So scum have each other already so they wouldn't be picking each other. So Scum would be picking a townie to team up with. So lets say everyone claims neighbors at l-2. Scum claim their towniefriend. no info can be gained from that, nor can we catch them in a lie.
If we are mislynching a townie: What info can we gleem from who their neighbor is? What if this townie has 2 daychats? 3 daychats?
I wanna hear what info we can get from claiming neighbors. I am with tom on the "secret" part of this game. I am also suspicious of him.
@TOM you asked me: "Do you think scum would choose their partner?" When it is in the set up (which i am assuming everyone but me read). So, given that it was knowledge i was obviously wrong about, why let me continue on my obviously wrong assumptions? I.E: Scum COULD choose their partners. Of course they wouldn't. They already have daychat.

Well if your assumption that scum would never choose their partner is correct, then claiming neighbours rules out seven pairs of scum immediately. That sounds pretty useful to me.

Sure, I admit that claiming the pairs now won't give us a mafia's head on silver platter, but I think it'll help us in the long run.
Plus, I don't really see any detriment to the town for claiming the pairs at some point, since how it'll exactly benefit mafia to know who is chatting with whom?

The scum can still pick each other for WIFOM. It's a slim chance they'd do something like this as a neighbour chat (and influencing the opinion of a single townie) is much better than WIFOM, but we can't exclude all the combinations from the start.

I agree, I think it would have to come down to behavior, but I think it’s a decent starting point.
Lets say Tom is scum. He has daychat with partner Scum!Shadow, who also has daychat with Town!me. Scum!Tom has daychat with Town!Dan who also had daychat with Town!Bur who also. etc etc... (all hypothetical)

We lynch scum Tom. Assuming your assumption that scum would never pick their buddy holds, Dan is cleared town! We also know everyone who picked Tom is also cleared town!
I can't imagine being scum and not picking a townie, but I've been show the possibility.
But it would just be wifom and no other purpose, so I'm thinking the only way a buddy gets claimed as neighbor is if two people picked eachother and the scum in that group gets a free roll to claim it
Oh. Man, i have been educated. Learning is fun! I am glad we could all experience this together, as friends (who ultimatley will try and kill each other)
So Scum-pairs and clearing. Here is a kind of ploy scum could use to throw us off.
They could claim their actual partner. Scum!Tom claims chat with Scum!Shadow. With my logic, we clear scum!Shadow. So, let's not play "Follow Rodemy" this game. or any game. Ever.
@tom: Okay. i am gonna go a little off the rails here for like.. 2 seconds. CHOO CHOOOOOOOOO...
What about my posting made you think, for a second, that i had ANY idea i was wrong about the set-up?
You are the first person to accuse anyone of doing something anti-town. (Pouring wine is anti town, right? In this case, i am gonna consider it an accusation) Cool. You are KIND of right. I was trying to figure out the pros and cons of claiming neighbors. With the wrong set up in mind, thus causing WIFOM.
Easy setup for a mislynch. Claim rodemy is trying to confuse people. Push his lynch.
However, you hid behind a gif. Like, i get you gif a lot, but my reply was trying to understand WHAT you meant by it. What you thought was wine and what you thought was legit. Actually, doing that is kind of letting us try and figure out what about the post is wine and what isn't. I see that as a scum tactic. Saying: there is wine in that, without pointing out WHAT the wine is.
Now, Eco said i was panicky. I don't sense a panic in my reply to toms Gif. I was asking him to clarify what was wine. he just said i was pouring and drinking which doesn't answer my question.
So, i think a good start here would be
vote tom
i get that i have an ass backwards way of trying to figure things out, but you knew i was wrong about the set-up when you accused me of WIFOM. I don't see why you would do that unless you planned on using that to make a case against me to get me lynched (which in my own personal opinion, is bad.)

Which one of you is scum?
Come on, i promise we won't lynch you right away.
What examples of pairs that don't make sense do you think exist?
?
Also secrets are fun
But i see no way we will catch scum by claiming neighbors.
You don't know anyones alignment if you are town. So you just pick someone you like. Scum MIGHT pick each other. but like, I'm not banking on that winning us the game.
Eco, how much thought did you put into picking your neighbor?
Wine? Am i drinking or pouring?
Also, where is the wine? Don't say all of it. I am pretty sure asking eco how much thought he put into his neighbor choice isn't wine.
It's so i can see what his mindset is. The only way someone would think we could catch scum by seeing who picked who is someone who had to put a lot of thought into who they picked.
I saw i was town and just.. picked. I didn't think about it. I didn't HAVE to.
You brought it up so you would seem to be pouring and drinking
You think scum would choose their buddy?
Honestly, I don't know tom. THAT is wine.
Actually, I do know.
MY lovely neighbor reminded me that grape confirmed scum to have their own daychat in the sign ups.
I doublechecked, and he did, indeed, say that. Why, if that knowledge was in the pregame, did you ask that question?
I think you're underselling the value of it (I think it'd be more valuable than worthless, even if it just keeps people honest over who they're talking to privately), but I'm not exactly advocating for a mass claim of neighbours right now.
I also don't like your apparent contradiction, but I'm prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt. I don't think this kind of semantic, technical contradiction has a particularly high hit rate as a scum tell anyway.
I put some thought into picking my neighbour. The reasons are not incredibly complex, but it was a lot more than closing my eyes and pointing at the player list. What does this tell you about my mindset?
This is a really panicky reaction to Tom just posting a gif. Are you nervous Rodemy?
What? Nervous? Me?
But, what if we lynch scum? If you assume that scum don't pick their buddy for their neighbour-partner, wouldn't scum flip clear someone for us then?
Lets say Tom is scum. He has daychat with partner Scum!Shadow, who also has daychat with Town!me. Scum!Tom has daychat with Town!Dan who also had daychat with Town!Bur who also. etc etc... (all hypothetical)
SCUM!Tom gets to L-2. Claims daychat with Town!Dan. Okay. Then what?
Town!Me gets to L-2 and i claim daychat with Scum!Shadow. Okay. Then what?
Town!Dan gets to L-2 and claims daychat with Town!Bur. Okay. Then What?
We can't deem ANYTHING from it. Just, oh hey they talked during the day. We COULD try and find some "weirdness" but unless we KNOW alignments, i see no benifit from it that will ultimately catch scum. Please, tell me a situation where we could catch scum or gather SOME info that will catch scum.
It’s not that we will catch scum because of it, but we have a pretty good idea for some unalignments.
Sure, I admit that claiming the pairs now won't give us a mafia's head on silver platter, but I think it'll help us in the long run.
Plus, I don't really see any detriment to the town for claiming the pairs at some point, since how it'll exactly benefit mafia to know who is chatting with whom?

We lynch scum Tom. Assuming your assumption that scum would never pick their buddy holds, Dan is cleared town! We also know everyone who picked Tom is also cleared town!
Sounds good to me!
But it would just be wifom and no other purpose, so I'm thinking the only way a buddy gets claimed as neighbor is if two people picked eachother and the scum in that group gets a free roll to claim it
So Scum-pairs and clearing.
Yes, my dear. The worst. <3
I am probably thinking too hard and over complicating a simple situation like i do.
I am just.. REALLY eager to prove myself. unvote Imma let the better players take the wheel now. We have nothing right now. Mountains, molehills. You know the analogy.
This is the post in question, I think.
I might be totally misunderstanding the situation, but from just this post I could totally see why everyone would think it's WIFOM.

"What about my posting made you think, for a second, that i had ANY idea i was wrong about the set-up?"
"Also, where is the wine?"
Also, i now realize that gif could be reactionary to what is being said about wine, but i felt it was targeted to me since it was posted right after me talking. *shrug* imma go now. Worktime.
