I like the land idea although if we are going to call it salvation I also like the idea of creature that return from the graveyard on certain triggers.

Or creatures you can play Yawgmoth style from your graveyard? (with some sort of Bogardan Phoenix-esque death counter)
:evil2:
The two mechanics I recently have started liking more and more are Fading and Cumulative Upkeep. Neither of those were too excitedly covered when they were used.
I think lands is a cool idea. There's a lot of ground there that has yet to be covered by colors that aren't green (Er... forgive the covering ground pun). Graveyard mechanics are possible, too, since we haven't had a full fledged set of them for a while, but CHK actually does cover the graveyard to some degree (Soulshift, theoretical new re-animation spells), so I'm not sure that one's as useful or cool at the moment.
I kinda like the idea of morph (playing things and keeping them hidden). Maybe we could have as a 'theme' expanding on that? I just feel like there's a lot of ground in morph that could have been covered that really never was. Well, anyways, just my little two bits of contribution.
how about discarding cards to keep a permanent in play, or make a spell uncounterable? for example:
Soldier 2W
Creature-Soldier
Salvation: Discard a soldier card. (When Salvation is activated, this creature becomes indestructable until end of turn)
2/2
It could just discard normal cards, here's a go at a non-permanent spell:
Immortal Summons 3RG
Sorcery
Salvation: Discard a creature card. (Salvation can be activated when this spell is on the stack at any time. This spell can't be countered)
Put a creature card from your hand into play. It gains haste. At the beginning of your next upkeep, pay that creature's mana cost or sacrifice it.
On a non-permanent spell, with the anytime ability, if you have a card in your hand, and your willing to discard it, this spell won't be countered if your opponent decides to play a counterspell. just some thoughts
Keep in mind, we are selecting themes, not just mechanics. After themes are picked, then we can worry about mechanics. The one I'm liking so far is graveyard recurrence/yawg-will type things. We just need a couple more options before the poll.
What about a set based upon instants and sorceries? I've got a lot of ideas based on that, pretty much a set and a half worth of cards based on this theme. Also, a theme I ended up exploring while making those cards was the order that spells are played in. I'll extrapolate further if anybody is interested in this at all.
as far as possible themes go, hand size really hasn't been covered and I always thought that could be... interesting.
but, if we stick with the whole 'Salvation' thing, then, yah, graveyard interaction seems right.

WoW is so addictive.
power/toughness- discrimination based on size. have big and little creature clans.
a set where there are no creatures. (reverse legions, dont know how that would work though)
There also has not been a true medievel magic set yet, where the main theme reflects a d and d/ lord of the rings feel.
magic-lord of the flies (the name just sounded cool.
a heaven/hell setting with good and bad cards, alignment mechanics, karma etc.
I would also like to join ill try and pm you but sign me up.
