My previously failed attempt to design a mox card led me to a different idea, one which will be revealed here.
(I am typing on an iphone so the mana symbols, bold letters, and other essential fixtures of card templating will have to wait)
I am sure this has been done before because it is so simple:
Aether Mox0
Legendary Artifact T: You gain E (one energy counter)
Since we will quite likely see energy return in a future set due to its high popularity among players, I can see this exact card printed, albeit with a different name. It doesnt have to be a Mox, but it seems like a great opportunity for it to be as it is identical in every way
aside from giving energy over mana
One energy per turn is actually quite a poor rate for a card that does nothing else. I am not even sure current standard Temur energy decks would play this card
as there are cards that provide more energy immediately and also come with a body and other relevant abilities to boot
However, the prospect of using this in conjuction with Winding Constrictor interests me quite a bit
I think it's best to just abandon the idea of having a Mox without some adequate restrictions like Mox Opal (which has both its legendary status and Metalcraft holding it back).
Maro said this card was considered massively overpowered for Kaladesh.
First of all, he did not say "massively overpowered". He just said it was "too powerful"
Secondly, I think it would have been broken in the Aetherworks Marvel decks. But in the regular midrange energy decks we see today, I think it would be strong but not overpowered.
Great find though! I'm glad to know the idea was at least thought of for Kaladesh block

Well, we did get an "energy rock" in Consulate Turret, if that's any consolation.

Indeed we did, but as that card is not played even with the secondary energy sink ability, it is quite clear that the correct casting cost for an energy rock would have to be lower to break into constructed. I think even 2 would be too expensive for this effect. This leaves either 1 or 0 as the appropriate cost

Don't fall into that trap. There are effects that can be undercost at one cost but overcost at just more. It's the Counterspell/Cancel issue all over again.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Yeah, that's true. But if you want to push a card to mythic rarity, it's gotta be at least a little bit undercosted.
A cost of 2 would work for a non-legendary common energy rock, which is why it would need to be better than that to be a legendary mythic.

That doesn't mean it has to cost less, it could simply do more. We know at 0 it was broken, I'm certain at 1 it would still be very overpowered. So to actually push without breaking cost 2 and add additional effects. Possibly even "ET: add any color mana", maybe ETBT with that effect.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
