Gazamax the Mad3UR
Legendary Artifact Creature - Dragon [MR]
Flying, flash
When Gazamax enters the battlefield, creatures you control become copies of target Dragon and gain haste until end of turn. "Come, let me perfect you." 4/4
Any feedback is appreciated!
If the wording isn't clear enough, the creatures are only copies until end of turn.
If the wording isn't clear enough, the creatures are only copies until end of turn.
It should be "When Gazamax the Mad (full title on first reference) enters the battlefield, until end of turn, creatures you control become copies of target Dragon and gain haste".
This way it's clearer that the end of turn condition applies to both effects.
If Gazamax is the only Dragon on the battlefield, all your creatures must become a copy of him, then you must sacrifice all but one copy of a Legendary with the same name. Is it intended? If yes, please change it anyway, as it doesn't sound like fun design.
Been playing too much hearthstone, forgot that's how legends work in this game

Again, if there's a better way of wording the effect I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Reviewing the design as intended, I quite enjoy it. Feels blue-red and has interesting applications as a kind of global, reverse, Scion of the Ur-Dragon.
*Sigh* One day I will be able to understand the legend rule and its variants again.
The whole point of the change to planeswalkers was to remove the fact that planeswalker had their own version of the legend rule while every other permanent type works just has legendary. It makes things simpler.
I agree that the haste addition may be unnecessary, except perhaps on the creature itself. I recommend using the "except they're not legendary" version fir simplicity's sake.

I thought that that was the reason for the latest legend rule change? To make legends work like planeswalkers.
Now we have to slap "Legendary" on every planeswalker (which is practically tautology in MtG lore) and wonder why we have 3 different Jaces in play even then. It seems rather counterproductive to remove the old rule to me, even if it does clarify a few scenarios like Gibeon Jura's ultimate in tribal.

Personally, I find "except they're not legendary" the more cumbersome version but I guess, in this case, since the creature affects itself, it doesn't actually raise the question of what happens when two cards share a name but only one is legendary.
Tahazaar's example card, on the other hand, really made me do a double take, since it is (to the best of my knowledge) the first time that the scenario has come up.
I think haste is nice on this card since it allows for a bit more of a flexible board and adds a little extra red to the concept. Having haste just being a keyword on Gazamax though wouldn't really work, since he immediately becomes a copy of a different creature when he ETBs.
Unless you choose him and give haste to every weenie you played that turn as well.
It makes for a more interesting decision process if he's got the potential to be worth copying even when he's not the biggest dragon on board.
I still feel like its kind of a counter intuitive design. But I'm starting to agree with you guys that the haste might not be necessary. Removing it would encourage more interesting deckbuilding centered around haste dragons.
I would rather have 6 Vampiric Dragon's, but you can't do that with this.
I also think it's a little over the curve, and am puzzled at how this would be expected to work into the mana curve of a deck with lots of high costing dragons. It's a neat play off other people's dragons, but in that case should cost no less than six.
I honestly think the implementation would be better as an instant or sorcery, so that it could play off Cunning Wish or Burning Wish. Then it would have some deck potential with cards like Rorix Bladewing and Hunted Dragon.

Why do you think that's the case?
I'm puzzled at how it would fit into the mana curve of a deck that would already be loaded accommodating for a significant number of high costing dragons.

The planeswalker ability literally says to create nonlegendary copies. It doesn't override the legend rule to me, since the legend rule checks if: 1. It has the same name and 2. If it is legendary. The two copies are not.

When ~ EsTB, creatures you control become copies of target Dragon UEOT. The "legend rule" doesn't apply to those creatures this turn.
That Jace is utterly stupid, since nothing on it negates the one planeswalker per subtype rule.
