As time allows, I have a pet project of creating an FF9 inspired MTG set. This is one design inspired by FF9 and brought into the world of MTG.
FF9 Creature - Epitaph (Oeilvert)
Epitaphic Emobdiment1UB
Creature - Shapeshifter (R)
: Epitaphic Embodiment becomes a copy of target creature an opponent controls except it has all abilities of Epitaphic Embodiment.
: Destroy target creature with the same name as this creature.

I think Epitaph when translated into MTG would look a lot like Evil Twin. This has some advantages and disadvantages when compared with Twin. It has a p/t of its own, it has a lower CC, it has a repeatable copy effect and kill effect. On the other hand Embodiment is slower than Evil Twin at copying and killing and it can only copy opponent's creatures.
Let me know - does this design invoke the epitaph enemy of FF9? Is this a card you would want to play?
There's an unintended side effect of the way you've written this card, being that when you activate "Epitaphic Embodiment becomes a copy of target creature an opponent controls except it has all abilities of Epitaphic Embodiment." as second time, because a card's name in its text is always treated as whatever the permanent's name is at the time, you will keep all the abilities from every creature each time this copies something new.
Not knowing the specific reference to FF9, I can't say how evocative it is. In a vacuum, I don't feel like its better than Evil Twin, since you can destroy the copied creature a turn earlier with the twin after it comes down. The recopying is interesting utility, but as written I'd be more likely to try to use it for some kind of shenanigans of combining creature abilities together than for the removal, which isn't how you intended this to be played.
You might want to consider changing the first effect to grant the second along with a flicker or bounce to reset the copying.
Epitaphic Embodiment 1UB
Creature - Shapeshifter (R) T: Epitaphic Embodiment becomes a copy of target creature an opponent controls and gains "T: Destroy target creature with the same name as this creature." and "1: Exile this creature. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step."
