Alright, we're coming up on time for players to submit cards for the round.
If you haven't submitted one by now, water you waiting for?
MCC September Mega-cycle Extravaganza For the month of September, we're doing something a little different that warrants warning you about it this much in advance.
In September you will be building vertical cycles that depend on cards submitted in previous rounds.
A vertical cycle is one in which cards across all the rarities continue a theme or mechanic. They can be loose or tight, but they need to have a mechanical link.
For example: Bloodfire Dwarf, Bloodfire Kavu, and Bloodfire Colossus form a vertical cycle within a color and card type.
Also, Lumithread Field, Zoetic Cavern, and Whetwheel form a vertical cycle across colors and card types (each is a non-creature with morph, the only set of their kind).
What this means for you is that you will be tasked with taking a card from a previous round and riffing off of the design.
Over the four rounds, we'll work our way up from common to mythic rare, which Wizards hasn't even done yet (hence vertical mega-cycle)
In the first round, you'll build a common. It's pretty wide open.
In the second round, you will choose a common from the previous round that wasn't yours and build an uncommon that could be part of a vertical cycle with it.
This will test your ability to design cards based on other people's designs, which is an important quality for a card designer to possess.
You will be taking someone else's card and doing something with it. This allows players who didn't go on to maybe see another player modify or draw inspiration from their design, and achieve a kind of vicarious victory even if they scrubbed out.
This doesn't mean you're confined to building off of that first round common for the whole run. In each new round you can select one card from the previous round as long as it wasn't your own. This means you won't be trapped by circumstances when the bonus requirements change.
This also means that for rounds 2 through 4, the round requirement will be the same: pick a card from the round before, and stack it up.
You will be strongly encouraged to provide links to the previous round's entries you are building off of, because your judge will disqualify you if the card doesn't connect with the card from the previous round.
In the end, we'll be able to showcase an entire vertical mega-cycle of cards, and a cycle of players who have the skills to play off of the designs of others.
I encourage anyone who wishes to participate to look around your card-index of choice for vertical cycles. And of course I encourage you all to participate.

@Arzan: Everything sounds fine (even cool) except for the narrowness of being forced to work around a design that may be we (or our judges) will consider as with a lack of something (balance, coherence, flavor, etc) and would probably affect our work.
MCC is supposed to be (as FCC was) an individual competition and that's one of the biggest atractives of it, "me against everyone else, for the trophy." To be honest, to be dependant of the design's quality of another person doesn't feels very appealing to me (at least in this contest.)
But well, you propose and we dispose, MCC Hammer.
@WT: I was confused about the deadline. Nvmnd. u_u'
@Arzangremmel: That idea sounds fantastic. I don't like the random "build a card that shares a color with last round's card and meets this other totally unrelated requirement" months, where the building-on is completely arbitrary, but making the cards connect like this, and letting the players know about it in advance is very, very cool. I may want to play instead of judging next month... I'll have to ponder that for a while.
@Blackbull--regarding the plan for Sept: Part of the difficulty will be in deciding which card to build off of. If you were assigned a card to build off of, I would say that was totally unfair, but it looks to me like you get to pick, so if you pick a bad one, it's on you and no one else.
@Pseudofate The asterisk was there to remind me to check your post again because you didn't have anything there at the time I was editing the round OP. I'll go back and remove the asterisk later, since you did sneak in an entry in on time and my brackets can remain as they are (including the one bye).

Oh, it's going to be difficult to find judges in September, I think... (I wanna play, too!)
I won't be signing up for September, but I'm going to start following the MCC again. Maybe I'll sign up for October. I just wanted people to know I'm still here.

Who are you again...... just kidding..... good to see your name back!
I have to agree that next month looks like a blast. Awesome creativity by MCC Hammer

I had less time than usual, so they are less formal than usual. If anyone wants their judging shoe-horned into a rubric*, or fleshed out more, let me know.
*I did the scores by rubric, but didn't feel like spending the time putting my comments into rubric format...
PM comments or complaints, or post them here. Either way, odds are I won't have time to get to them until Sunday.
I have to say, I was extremely lucky to get a bye this round. My card sucked terribly and I did have just enough free time to change it if I wanted to, but I got too lazy (I also thought qqpq gave me too many points ;).)

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
Alright everyone, judgings for PMega and Twilight are up. KoolKoal is going forward since he's against no one, so I'm putting that judging off until tomorrow when I can find some time. I have to wake up early and it's already 1:20 am here
I'm heading up September. I'll post the player and judge sign-ups later tonight. August is going a bit long, but we should certainly be able to keep up with both through the transition.
And of course I encourage you all to participate.

The previous rounds only asked that the letters be in order. I see you have "Dowat, Erudite", so I wouldn't take off, going by precedent.
Yup, we've still got another 14+ hours. No rush.
I'd agree with this. No issues with your title, BBull.

How do you make hybrid mana symbols like 2 colorless and a mana of a certain kind? I can't figure it out
Without the asterixs (*), you get
