I am going to say congrats, I like how you won with a blue card.
but, my first thoughts of the round was a card that said the same thing. I didn't make it blue and decided it was worded wrong and not flavorful enough. You did an excellent job of conveying it.
meh, I'm very happy with fourth place and this was a close round.
I would like to point out that this is the first non-rare card to win the FCC in a while, I think two years or something rediculous. I really felt like the underdog going in, and it was a really close race. I think it'll be a long time until I defy one of the bonus points again though.
The card mostly speaks for itself, so I want to show off something that's not so obvious. If you imagine a split down the middle of the card, (where the color goes from blue to green) the left half of the art is forested and the blue half is a waterfall. It's almost like the hybrid divide line goes through the art. I didn't plan it that way originally, but I think it adds to the aesthetic. I appologise for demonstrating this with MS paint.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
I like your card because it seems "pretty obvious" but when you think about it, it's not that obvious. It's not obvious that it's fair at three cards for one mana, but I think it definitely is.
I think it's a very elegant card, and, as you said, a common. The last time a common won the FCC was when the round requirement WAS to create a common.
Unfortunately, I had too less time to really think of a cool card, so I submitted the first idea I had, which proved to be waaay to un-special. I see it myself now "How could I have thought THIS could win the FCC?". I like the idea of a mana artifact that does something relevant later in the game, though. Maybe I'll try something like this again later (Yes, I know we already have Mind Stone).
Power to the commons! Good, solid card, if it's kind of boring.
I gave this card a 1/3 for creativity, but the only other problems I had with it were that it's blue and that your flavor text is formatted incorrectly.

I think this card does a great job with some of the subtler aspects of card design. Balance-wise, you managed to make a one-mana card (a hybrid mana, no less) at common that had potential 3-1 card advantage, and yet still feels perfectly balanced. Meanwhile, I think this is an excellent example of hybrid card color pie design, as you found a mechanic that seems to perfectly intersect both green and blue and would feel valid as a monocolored card in either color (although perhaps a bit better in green), while still being creative with regards to the color pie (i.e. not just a lifegain card).
I'm a huge fan of creativity, so the fact that this is essentially a mini-mulch is a bit disappointing, but the subtleties of the balance and hybrid design make it a great card despite that. Also, that art division thing is really cool and very impressive that you pulled it off.
I want to share a bit of history here that I hope Finrod finds the same humor in as I do.
My first idea was this in green, with different flavor. I later thought about making it in close to it's present form, but I quickly threw that idea aside. I began working hard on a red rare card draw card involving coin flips.
Then I found myself looking over the thread as a whole, and came to the conclusion that I wasn't going to win no matter which of the two cards I went with. In particular I felt that Finrod's card would win straight up next to my Mulch variant if nothing else. I mean, it taps into one of the more interesting non-broken mechanics from Mirrodin, it's decent mana production, and if you don't need it for a while you can damage creatures or draw cards. It wasn't a "card drawing card" particularly, but then again niether was mine. On average my card gets you one land, (sometimes none at all) and that produces the same amount of mana as his artifact but not as quickly. The only time my card would be preferable to Finrod's would in combo with dredge / other draw replacement or on your first turn. His card's flavor needed a little polishing, but then again the same thing could be said for my card to at least the same degree.
Having resigned myself to the loss, I wanted to at least put up something that would make the discussion thread more interesting. I put up the card as it is now, some other things happened, and here we all are.
I find this incredibly cool if for no other reason than not only did a common beat out a host of rares in the FCC but that a card that intentionally gave up a bonus point managed to pull off the win.
I do like this card very much (hate the flavor text, though) and I think it's an excellent winner.
I really loved Cantripmancer's card too, though.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
My favorite this round was probably Zaphod's, mostly because I like the occasional throwback to old creatures like nightstalkers.
The one I would must want to use in a tournament would have to be Cantripmancer's, having nothing to do with power level or whatnot. I just like the idea of tapping it and flipping my opponent off. For this to make any sense I would have to add that I think the token should've been a Bird (I.e., giving them "the bird."). Then again, while playing Warlords I had a Sorsha monster deck that Giant Growth a Cockatrice and attack, saying as I happed "I beat you with my giant ****." I also used a card named Take Advantage and I got a lot of confused stares and stifled laughter when I took advantage of my opponent's warlord with my giant **** FTW. It occurs to me that I'm a terrible human being for finding this kind of thing funny.
I took a look at this card.., just a while ago. Checked for wording.
I criticized it then for the gratuitous abuse of hybrid mana. Sheer redundancy as a card. Shows off nothing more than the Sindbad mechanic, and apparently techy use of hybrid mechanical overlap.
The FCC gets better entries in the first round than anything that has ever won it.

Part of that problem is the requirement. I mean, May first round was just as open as you can be - A legend with a race and a class. In the final round we had to make a card with "draw three cards" in it's text that wasn't blue and had CMC 2 or less. I think that if we swapped the round requirements we would've seen 7 deeply interesting entries in the finals and a sea of mostly garbage in the first round of May.
You are right about there being some really good entries in the first rounds. To be honest I'd rather my first round card be on the main page than Perilous Expedition, as I put more time into it. But I would argue that if you took a random sampling of 100 FCC contestants and give them challenge for this round, I don't think hardly any of those people would have made anything comparable the April finals. I say this because of the sorts of cards you get from the game threads, the request game in particular.

Complete originality is overrated. It irritates me when people complain when a card isn't 100% a brand new idea that no one has ever thought of before, because not only is it a completely unreasonable expectation, but it leads to subpar cards. Wither is the first completely original idea Wizards has had in the past five years, and it wasn't even deliberate.
This card is a masterpiece. It's perfectly balanced and fits the flavor of a hybrid card and of each individual color very nicely. It's also incredibly ambitious for a common, while still feeling appropriate for that rarity.
Add to that the fact that he found very nice, appropriate art and flavor text, and I see no room for complaint anywhere. The fact that the card treads no new ground is actually a good thing.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
I'm simultaneously honored and insulted, but that is a good point. Some of my favorite Shadowmoor cards didn't do anything new at all, and some cards did so much to be original for originality's sake that it got in the way of being a good card.
Is it just me or does this card not work as worded? If I read it correctly it's telling you to draw three cards and then reveal them. that doesn't work as drawing a card puts it in your hand. the correct wording of this card would be "Reveal the top three cards of your library. Put all non-land cards revealed this way into your graveyard and the rest in your hand." You never reveal AFTER putting the cards in your hand cause that leads to cheating. now if it said something like draw 3 cards then reveal 3 cards from your hand (meaning it doesn't HAVE to be the same 3 cards) it would work. So how did no one catch this??
Like Sindbad, you don't put those cards in with the rest of your hand right away. So no, cheating isn't a problem.
Even if it weren't the round requirement to have a card that includes "Draw three cards", I stand by this wording over a cut and paste of Mulch. The reason you draw cards and reveal them is to interact with the things Sindhad does, including dredge, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, Abundance, Words of Wilding, Pursuit of Knowledge, Thought Reflection, etc. With Thought Reflection in play, you would simply draw six cards. If you just use the Mulch wording you loose all combo potential, and the whole point was to have a card that is usable in limited for utility but also has a place in contructed.
I have a dredge deck, two actually, and I don't think that would be a problem. You can't rely on having 3 good dredge cards in your graveyard early on. On turn one you could play this to get a land and hopefully "litter" something you want to dredge later on. Later on it's an efficiency beast but it does nothing that can't already do with existing commons.
It might be fun exercise sometime to see what kind of decks people would build with the FCC cards to get an idea on how strong they really are. Maybe playtesting would change things, but I don't think this would rock extended. I think it would see play in extended and it would help dredge a great deal, but I don't see it being that big of a deal.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
I love simple designs. They're easy to understand and even easier to know where to put. Dredge / Reanimator would love this.
Wait. How would that work? When I use this card and dredge up stuff, what happens then?
