Moss_Elemental, Shepherd, and Kraj are very pleased to announce this month's Card of the Month winner. We received about a dozen nominations, among them some truly excellent designs. We liked this card by GetItWrong for its combination of simplicity and depth, as well as balance and solid flavor.
Congratulations!
An honorable mention goes to intreped's Genomancer for being an innovative and interesting Johnny card:
Genomancer1G
Creature - Insect Wizard {M}
Noncreature permanent cards you own that aren't in play are 0/0 creatures in addition to their other types.
1/2
Thanks to everyone who sent nominations. Keep 'em coming!

That card could be very good in a control deck. It gains a good amount of life, which helps you get an upper hand on aggro. And Lifelink stacks! It would be sick with wall of reverence.
Hmm, interesting card. What was that designed for? I know intreped's card was in MtG Card Creation Idol.
Are cards with renders more likely to be considered here?
Genomancer1G
Creature - Insect Wizard {M}
Noncreature permanent cards you own that aren't in play are 0/0 creatures in addition to their other types.
1/2
Protean Hulk all your land into play? Not to suggest that would rock the Extended scene or anything but I feel that there are some pretty crazy interactions here. It would be fun for casual, but if printed may cause the Comp Rules to explode.
Anyway, congrats GetItWrong! Man, this would go sweet with the old Rolling Stones deck, which if you're adding red you can use such red walls as Cinder Wall and Wall of Razors. That's not to say 2cc for 3 power and lifelinks is banished only to theme decks, Hearthfire Hobgoblin gets 20 points of life swing out of it, but it's better to error toward overpowered when making auras since they are so generally hated.
Also, it was something common to have the displays late in the month... Hope this is somewhat improved in the new CotM.
The only real difference is we won't be waiting for ~10 different people to finish extensive evaluations before declaring a winner. We're still at the mercy of busy people to update the front page. Happily, Woapalanne was able to respond to my request almost immediately this month.
I've asked Kraj about this and he said that they aren't. The mods and the author of the card would after the election work a render for it. I think you should really put this on the stickies that explain the new CotM, Kraj.
I knew I was forgetting something when I updated those... Fix'd. Thanks, G.

wouldn't that be 10 life not 20 if he was a 5/2 with doublestrike/lifelink? Or am i missing something here? Love the card by the way, have been wanting to build a defender deck lately.

No, no, no. by life swing he actually meant a +10 / -10 difference between life totals. So a 5/2 Double striking goblin deals 10 damage and gives you 10 life.
Life totals:
Yours : 30
His : 10

My playgroup: four people total.
We use the Legacy B&R list.
My meta consists of combo, control and some aggro / midrange decks.
My group uses proxies, so budget is not an issue. Because of this, things can get out of hand.
An aura that costs exactly CD where C and D are enemy colors.
I made it right after an argument over the secular merits of religion...in which, oddly, I took and take the "anti-" side. Seems I can't escape the imagery.
Kraj was awesome enough to make a bunch of renders for me to choose from. I guess possibly I shouldn't have chosen one with wings; I didn't think about the potential confusion. Still, I don't think it hurts the flavor: the art just depicts the aura being played on a flying creature (and all angels in Magic have flying built in).
On the power level: I think it's probably not broken on an attacker. I tend to cost my cards at the cheapest plausible level, which may be a bad habit.
Protean Hulk all your land into play? Not to suggest that would rock the Extended scene or anything but I feel that there are some pretty crazy interactions here. It would be fun for casual, but if printed may cause the Comp Rules to explode.
I'm well aware of the interaction with Protean Hulk. It also turns Genesis into Eternal Witness every turn, and allows you to Tooth and Nail for Pandemonium and Saproling Burst, but it's hardly the most broken card ever. It definitely works within the Comp Rules.
Still, I'm glad it didn't win because I didn't design it this month. It's actually a recycled design from 2007, I think. EDIT: Found it. Credit goes to banned member Sakura for the name and p/t balance. Almost 1.5 years later, I still love the design but have no idea what the flavor is.
Congratulations to GetItWrong. That's a tempting aura. Wakestone Gargoyle hasn't been mentioned yet?
That would be pretty sweet. Any walls with double strike? I don't think so but that would be pretty awesome. Most walls have evasion.

Saying something becomes broken with slivers isn't a valid criticism anymore. Usually when that argument is evoked the truth is that just staying more pure slivers is the better strategy. I think slivers went officially obscene when they came back in Onslaught with Shifting Sliver and Magma Sliver. They passed obscene with Virulent Sliver and Shadow Sliver, or the Virulent Sliver / Mirrorweave combo. The point is that Fire of the Cherubim and Dormant Sliver together make four colors and you still have to figure out how you're attacking, the lazier sliver lifelink trick is Essence Sliver. I stand by Hearthfire Hobgoblin as the way to go, and you can add Loyal Gyrfalcon or some other defender that can attack if you want but nobody is going to fault you if you don't.

it would be less broken if it was Non-Land and Non-Creature Permanents, it would still be sick though

I am convinced that WotC is "dumbing" the game because of all the stupid posts they come across on MTG-related forums
Genomancer seems like a real rules headache I don't know what crazy combo shennanagans you would do with this but im sure it wouldn't be fun to play against
the genomancer doesnt make alot of sense. because if they arent in play...then they arent permanents. nothing is a permanent until it resolves and remains in play
That used to be the case before Ramosian Revivalist, but now lands in your library are permanents. You can't Desert Twister a permanent that's not in play, but cards not in play can be permanents.
My comment was in response to the statement that "permanent cards you own that aren't in play" would not include anything. There was a time not long ago when Genomancer wouldn't function because cards not in play weren't permanent cards. Ramosian Revivalist marked a significant rules templating change.

It's because of Tribal. Otherwise, there would be cards that could theoretically put tribal instants/sorceries into play from your deck or hand, which can't really work since they are never "in play", only on the stack.
Congratulations!

Really love it pairing with Wall of Reverence, lifelink 4, end turn gain 4..

My only criticism is that i think that card is a bit OP for its rarity, since does loxodon T2.
1St turn Goldmeadow stalwart (2/2). Second turn swing for 5 and gain 5... Too much for me...
