I kinda wanna learn some of the past of MTG, like the lore, or the published books and what not...and i'm wondering how many books there are, and how far back it goes? does anyone have a list of the magic books...a list in order perhaps from the 1st one through the new planewalker books or w/e? thanks
If you're interested in the older flavor, check out the ARTIFACTS OMBNIBUS VOL. 1, which collects THE THRAN and THE BROTHER'S WAR. Both of those are incredible books that are pretty universally adored.
Of late AGENTS OF ARTIFICE and THE PURIFYING FIRE have both been fairly well received.
Is there anything in particular you're looking for? A list is a start, but some of the books are good and some are eye-gougingly awful, so recommendations are always a good thing.
(Also, this would probably fit best in the Storyline section...)
EDIT: Also, some of the information on that page is either dreadfully wrong or somewhat misleading, so it's best to just ask us rather than go by Wikipedia.
i basically wanna know the storyline...cause it seems everyone at FNM and stuff, kinda knows how things are linked together or w/e...and to me its just cards....i'd like to learn mroe about what im doing i guess...so yes, i wanna read the "storyline"...at least somewhat current....where do you suggest i start?>
The first four books, even though they're not necessarily part of what's become Magic's "storyline," are actually my favorites. I've probably read Arena a dozen times.

I agree whole-heartedly. While not connected to any storyline, Arena is a GREAT book. Instead of forcing a story using characters from the card game, it uses the card game as a basis for a good fantasy book. The other older Magic books are OK, but none stand up to Arena.
I am currently reading Agents of Artifice, and so far I can say it is completely average for a fantasy book. But if you want to know more about the planeswalker characters I would suggest it.

I really looking for someone to discuss it.
