I play unhinged lands (not foiled). They look really nice and they're not very expensive.

The interesting thing about us legacy players is that we consider Force of Will, Dark Ritual, Blood Moon, Tarmogoyf and Swords to Plowshare to be fair.
What lands do you use for your basic lands (few as they may be)? Are you an unhinged kind of guy, or do you like matching beta?
Personally, I like foiled Kamigawa lands. While they lack a price tag, their artwork is stunning.
Depends.
For some Legacy decks that only use a couple basic lands (like Reanimator, and others) I use the Unhinged full art lands (I get this set confused with Unglued though, I'm talking about the ones with the more realistic looking land pics that take up almost all of the card face.) I don't like to use too many of them in a single deck because with only one picture they lack variety. In decks that use a bunch of basic lands (Tribal decks, etc.) I go with either Zendikar full art lands or Beta lands (for nostalgia factor,) but mostly Beta for Legacy... and I use a mix of the different landscape pictures available for each land type for variety's sake. For Standard my decks are all Zendikar full-arts.
Those are pretty much the only three sets I use basic lands from. Never use foils either, don't like them in general. I never liked the gray circle "T" tap symbol over the old original "Tap," and I can't stand the new lands that just have that big goofy mana symbol under the landscape picture (which happened at some point after I had gotten out of the game for more than a decade.)
I wish more sets would use extended art lands, don't know why they don't. To me they just look so much better.
I uses Zendikar full art lands. I uses the same art for all my lands. It is a strategy. When your opponent plays cards like duress or gitaxian probe, they just don'r know if you put the land you had in your hands or if you just draw one.
One of these days, I'm going to end up buying a bunch of the Invasion lands to use in my decks. It was the first set I really remember. I started at Torment/Judgement, but don't really remember the lands.

Foil basics. I try to pickup good looking ones whenever I can (we all know some basics have significantly better art than others). I also think full-art like Zendikar is weak. They look ugly and horrendously uninspired (floating diamonds and pouring buckets)?

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Whichever has nice artwork. I usually try to have all different art lands. I like a lot of the lands from time spiral, and that desert plains from shards. Also a couple ones from mirage look nice. And of course I always throw in a snow-covered land.
Right now I have the Unhinged full art lands (all two basics in my deck), but I think I want to swap them out for Beta lands. I was kind of disappointed with the Unhinged arts, they look a lot more vibrant when you see them on camera and in pictures.
What I really want are some Guru lands but I need to focus on actually building my deck as opposed to buying $50 basic land.
It depends, really. Generally speaking, almost any rather nice looking basic will do. Though I do tend to lean towards mirage lands, especially for islands.
I'll put this bluntly. If a really cool, unique guy went up to a normal girl, and is ugly, he's weird. if he goes up and is hot, then he's cool and unique.
Standard
It's like watching grass grow, except it's ridculously expensive.

I also loved the lands from Mirage.
I usually use Unhinged/Unglued lands, but I have some special ones, like an Altered Art version of Forest #349 from Invasion (http://magiccards.info/in/en/349.html)
While I don't go out of the way for foil lands or full art lands I do tend to be rather picky about which lands I do put into my decks. I do try to stick with the theme of my deck though. If I'm making a tribal deck I go thru my lands and end up saying to myself "Would this tribe actually like to live on this land?"
When making a land destruction deck to play casual with I used the lands from Scars block to show the decay and corruption of the land which kinda fits with me destroying all my opponents land.
Beta basics are my favorite if I have a choice, otherwise I generally just use whatever I have around but don't mix between white bordered/black bordered and old frame/new frame in a single deck.
Those are the best land arts that I've seen, in my opinion. I'm undecided on Plains. I think the Unhinged Swamp is phenomenal, it's a piece of art that I would hang on my wall. I also like the Unhinged Forest, but don't currently own any.
Swamps-My japanese PVC lands are my favorites followed by my foil set of onslaught ones. and unhinged ones (older ones with tap symbol get the sets confused) for full art

I love that zen forest. I was extraordinarily happy when I opened a foil.
That island is also my favorite. As for plains, my favorite is zen 231. It actually resembles a plain.
I guess OP wants it to be 'keyworded' like "dies" was. What word would you replace ETB with though?
When Aegis Angel is born?
When Huntmaster of the Fells arrives?
When Kitchen Sphinx lands?
When Faerie Imposter busts in?
When Dread Cacodemon pops in?
When Malfegor shows up?
In standard I exclusively use full art jung park zendikar lands.
In edh i try and have the lands fit my general (eg "evil looking" mountains and swamps in thraximundar or nuce looking forests in jenara.)
Also, in foiled niv-mizzet edh I'm trying to get a combination of full art foil lands (using zen and unhinged) or the special japanese izzet league foil lands. It isnt finished yet but its well on its way!
Variety. I almost exclusively play EDH, but I try to mix it up so every land is different. I usually try to put one of each Zendikar land in there and the rest are just arts that I like from other sets or foils.
i use the Zen basics, art doesn't matter but i do have some preference with some of the particular arts (namely the floating island img, cant and i'm not interested atm to look) But my paper deck has Unhinged lands, and i'm really thinking about selling the deck as a cohesive thing... in fact imma do that soon.
