I have that Ultra Pro bag that a lot of players have- the model with the foam insert that has 5 slots for decks and one slot for dicebags. Anyhow, I had a problem with one of the zippers breaking a couple months back. Well, now the other zipper broke and I was unable to fix it after 20 minutes fiddling with it. Not only that, but the tag on each zipper wore out and broke. Now I'm lefting wondering if those Ultra Pro bags are even worth buying (mine lasted 1 1/2 years), especially given that they replaced the foam insert with cardboard??!?!?
What do you carry your decks in (FNM, local tournaments, casual play, etc)? Are there any other companies, aside from Ultra Pro, who make quality gaming bags? I tried using boxes this FNM and it's annoying to carry multiple boxes worth of decks back and forth in & out of a store. Especially given that I don't have a convenient space to hold dice, pens, paper, a playmat all in one (like my Ultra Pro served to do).
I don't see the point of those bags. I carry my decks in deckboxes, but otherwise loose in my backpack. Ditto my bag of supplies (dice/counters/etc). I mean, what's going to happen to them? The box gets a bit scuffed? I'll admit that my metal boxes are certainly fairly dinged, but I don't care.
I use the box for the deckbuilders toolkit. It fit 3 boxes and a dicebag nicely, isn't too large, and is cheap to replace. All of decks are sleeved and inside other deckboxes, so I'm not worried about rain or anything damaging them (as long as my box doesn't fall in a river, I think I'm okay ). Then, I put the toolkit box into my backpack, with my trade folder behind it, and a notepad and pen or whatever. I've been doing this with the same box for a couple of months now, and it's showing wear and tear, but it's only £2 or so to replace it.
Yep. Random long boxes with room for a couple of decks, one of those plastic ones or just some fat pack box. Throw them in your backpack and it's fine. Uses a lot less room too.
^I don't play in tournaments (just a playgroup), but this thing is amazing, and every bit as high quality as it claims to be. I carry five decks (4 Legacy, 1 casual). There's enough room for a sideboard for each, and I like to carry enough cards relating to each deck so I can change up the lists a little if I feel like it (LED/LEDless Dredge and a half dozen or so Dread Return targets; UW Stoneblade with or without Misstep, Visions/Standstill, and several possible sword and creature bases; every card for just about every build of Merfolk, etc.). It's a little pricy, but considering I have about $3k worth of cards in it, I don't think it's too much to ask to have a nice carrier.
I use a .50 cal ammo can to carry my decks around, but I've been looking for something new for a while. I've been getting close to it being not quite big enough for some time now, and it's finally made the jump now that I've built my sixth EDH deck and double-sleeved my Sharuum deck.
Incidentally, it's amazing how much of a difference in thickness double-sleeving makes for a deck. Deckboxes that could fit an EDH deck in Dragonshields with plenty of room to spare are still too small to fit an EDH deck that's in Dragonshields AND those Ultra-Pro Pro-Fit sleeves
I have a few different bags that I can take depending on the amount of deckage I need with me on any given day.
I keep my 60-card decks in ultra pro deck boxes. I keep my Commander decks in Cardway boxes. If I only need a few things with me, I just throw what I need in my little messenger bag.
If I need all my things (I have 5 Commander decks and 2-3 casual decks at any given time, plus trade ****), I have a "laptop" case that I found at a thrift store. It's similar in shape and size to those Ultra Pro magic bags, but it has two sides and can carry 8 decks on one side and all sorts of other goodies on the other.
I am kind of amazed at [...] the fact that somebody on this thread called Mind's Eye, Mirari's Wake, Decree of Pain, Desertion, AND Scroll Rack, all before they were officially spoiled. I'll second the Dragon's Egg. I love mine. I carry three decks inside plus sleeves for drafting and a bag of dice up top. For something so small in holds a surprising amount of stuff.
I have an old school bag and i have a trade binder and a box i bought at a card store for 50 cents thats about 10 inches or so and i have my decks in there and everything is in my school bag

I have wanted to get a Dragon's Egg for a long time. I recently had the chance to see someone else's, and it really is awesome. It has space for 4 decks, life counters, etc., is approximately the size of 2 fat packs, and could survive nuclear fallout.

I have gone through 2 of these Deckpro cases in about 5 years... they are pretty great, but when I have too many decks I end up taking out the foam and just used deckboxes from Deckbuilders Toolkits to store things. Works really well and I have room for another small case, slim binder, dice bag, and a playmat.
As for the zippers... here's how I fixed them after they broke:
Freaking love that stuff... I fixed a bunch of stuff around the house with it.
But if you can't hack it to fix, I'd say go with Dragon Egg. I like them but I tend to need more space than they give me. That and I like being able to sling these over my shoulder and keep my crap safe, unlike a backpack which is easy to put down since they get heavy.
I feel like this is the third time I've answered this exact question...
But at any rate, I'm a fan of cheap laptop briefcases that you can get from bigbox stores (e.g. something like this). I like it better than a backpack because you can carry it one-handed (it's not that heavy), and the exterior pockets are nice for accessories.
I really like the deckboxes that come with event decks. I really, really wish they made versions that were not just paper, but something more heavy duty. Just toss it in your backpack.

I like them too, except that they can't hold a full sleeved 75 card deck.

carrying around those ultra pro gaming bags as well as a trade binder is too much.

They can if you don't have a sideboard!
I use 60 card decks and 15 card sideboards and it works just fine. Barely, but fine.
