I often see the word ponder used on these forums and I can't help but think they only used it because of magic. What other vocab words have you guys ever used/learned from mtg?
I can think of only one and that would be haste.

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not." - John Lennon
Aluren - paradise Kismet - destiny Phthisis - a progressive, systemic disease Spindrift Drake - seaspray swept by a violent wind Sanguine Guard - optimistic. This one confused me, but it turns out that the adjective is wrong - it should be 'Sanguinary', which means bloodthirsty
It was so annoying, when time spiral was released I could not stop using phthisis in everyday conversation. It was almost as bad when years earlier I was all like "synod" this, and "synod" that.
I learned a new word from Zephyr Falcon. A zephyr is a light, westward breeze. For some reason, it seems so oddly specific to me. In the same vein (although not Magic related), "petrichor" is the scent of rain on dry earth. It's just so specific.

Protean Hulk and Proteus Staff helped me figure out what the definition of "Protean" was on the fill in the blank questions on the SAT a few years ago.
Roustabout- can mean several things, but the one meant on the card is a circus hand, they even use the word in "Dumbo".
Magic vocab helped me on one standardized test. I knew that Eventide meant evening and did not have to do with tides at all. Easy when you can contrast it with Morningtide.

I can't think of any Magic cards that increased my vocabulary. My vocabulary has been larger than my peers' for most of my life. There are certainly some good words on Magic cards that you'd normally look for in a Thesaurus, though!

He obviously typo'd, two and three are right beside each other on the keyboard.
I picked up Pernicious from magic.
And Discombobulate, which was then used in the Sherlock Holmes movie.

That's because the ancient people used to personify the wind. Aeolus controlled the winds, and each direction had a name.
(I should also point out to Doug Beyer that Norn is okra. The norns were the Nordic goddesses of fate.)

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

inquest use to do a thingy each month for awhile where they had definitions of card names that most people wouldn't realize were real words.
Also, Vindicate. Although, for the longest time, I thought it meant "destroy" because of that card. Then I finally looked it up.

Thanks to magic, I didn't have to study for that one chapter of biomes and terrain in 9th grade biology.
Taiga, scrubland (meditteranean scrub), plateau, bayou, tundra, savannah
Did I know these were lands at the time? sure.
But thinking of a taiga as a mountain and forest, or a plateau as a cross between a plains and a mountain really helped the memory associations.
