I figured I'd take the time to set establish a thread for people to come and confess their Magic sins. Many times, people vent complaints and frustrations about the Game and Wizards of the Coast, but neglect to give them credit for the things that keep them paying attention to the game. I think it would be great if we could hear from a bunch of people admitting they were wrong about something Magic related, and how sometimes the things that cause their frustrations were all part of a grand and mysterious plan. Sorry if this is too cheeky/irreverent/unnecessary, we can proceed to bury this thread with Proxy, Mulligan, and Reprint threads if we must.
I'll go first!
Forgive me Maro, for I have sinned.
I have not drafted since RtR block because I do not like Theros (because there are no Goblins in Theros) and core sets give me vertigo. I did not draft Goblins in Modern Masters either because I did not draft Modern Masters; it felt like my LGS would be running a high-stakes gambling event rather than the pleasant games of skill and chance they had been.
I've strayed from the path of righteousness and returned to the dark depths of an eternal format free-loader, coveting the handful of cards I want from each block and ignoring/ridiculing the rest. It is hard to have much faith in WotC when I have to wait a FULL YEAR for the game to return to what it has always been to me: Goblins versus the world. Even if they do, standard is so very rarely as balanced as I would like it to be that my favorite archetype has not been tier-1 since 2003.
It seems like just as I was ready to do-the-good-thing and attend a FNM with a non-tier-1, non-Machiavellian Goblin deck, I came upon hard times and I felt as though the game no longer had a purpose for me. How can I serve you if you want me to go away every two years?
BUT I STILL HAVE FAITH!
In hard times past I received your blessings with Cavern of Souls. 'Legion Loyalist' and 'Goblin Diplomats' felt like well orchestrated plants to keep me interested in the game in times when I would otherwise have zero interest. I sought out the Jund Commander precon because I knew that YOU created that for ME, as it would be wrong for me not to buy it...but since Shattergang Brothers is obviously the best card in C13, it was sold out at Wallmart and Target and all I could find were those terrible Grixis decks (lol, I mean Esper and Bant).
Magic is important to me whether I am playing or not because many of the things I would otherwise be thinking about are sinful and unclean. Without the light of Goblins, my mind would be a more unpleasant place to reside, so I am forever thankful.
I have faith that MTG will not banish my people to hell. I make a vow to recognize when Wizards does things to appeal to my particular psychographic and seize the opportunity...as well as being a better influence and more positive caregiver of the game than I have been.
For thine is the card kingdom, the power nine, and the glory forever. Amen.

I played Birthing Pod both in tourneys and on Cockatrice for about six months without anyone ever pointing out to me that it was Sorcery-speed only. Six months, and not a single person thought it odd when I podded after blocking. Six. Months.
For what it's worth, the opposite of evergreen is "deciduous" so I suggest we start using that from now on to refer to shroud, banding, islandhome, etc.
I once told my friend that his psychosis crawler died during the resolution of wheel of fortune. It turns out that its P/T are not checked until the whole spell has resolved. Forgive me!
I immediately disregard and ignore 90% of cards printed because they don't go into a competitive control or combo deck in any format, which are the only archetypes I find skillful or fun to play. This also includes 99.999% of all creatures ever made, because I "outgrew" the stage where people find combat interesting or skill intensive within my first few months of playing Magic and thus the only creatures that interest me are ones that function as efficient spells with a negligible body attached. Any time a card that doesn't interest me is printed, I gleefully trade off the overpriced jank to players for carda that are actually powerful and will likely maintain value.Thusly, almost every single card wizards works so hard to make I consider trade bait at best and unplayable trash at worst.
Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
I was playing casual Magic with some friends and we were getting a new guy involved. He had bought a Deckbuilder's Toolkit to start off and I had helped in sort everything. All of his green stuff were right by me and I was running my Mono-G deck that had run out of steam. I may or may not have borrowed his Ambush Viper, Terrifying Presence, and Clinging Mists to stay alive.
I still ended up being killed, but oh well.

Haven't played anything but EDH and casual for over a year
I am the guy the plays that deck. You know that deck. The one you hate. The one everyone complains about the loudest. I am the guy that builds that deck just to put other player on tilt. Sometimes its Infect, Sometimes its RDW or dredge. But if its a deck that make people groan when I play my cards, its the deck I want to be playing.

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
Through the prerelease and release events, I never realized that Whip of Erebos is sorcery speed. Whoops.
That's deep stuff man. I once won a draft in which I thought that you could tap Cluestones for mana and sacrifice them at the same time. I know I did it twice, I'm not sure if that won me the game, I felt so horrible about a tournament in which I drafted removal heavy monster. When I got home, I even FB messaged the person it happened against saying how sorry and stupid I was, because I'm strange like that.
As a matter of fact, all of my minor victories in this game are marred with unusual circumstances and awkward situations, which actually keeps me away from my LGS at the moment. I'm afraid of damaging that precious meta with my outlandish opinions and beliefs.
The last draft I played was the first time I played against minors since turning adult. I felt so mean killing all their stuff with removal, and I neglected to let him have a 'friendly seven'...NOT because I'm a win at all costs kind of person, but because I'm very serious about the mulligan rules thanks to my participation in these forums. I don't know if I did the right thing or the wrong thing, but I felt really bad about it.

I confess, whenever I play children, like really, really, little kids, I never Mulligan, even with an all land hand. If I can't beat a 8 year old without Mulliganing, I don't deserve the win.
Lots of Prerelease stories, so I'll add mine. I kept revealing lands using Sapling of Colfenor's ability, except that I would gain 0 life, lose 0 life, and then put the land into my hand. Because of this, I must've "drawn" about five extra cards that game.
My opponent and I both realized at exactly the same time that this is not how the card works. Too bad that was the week after.
When I played Cruel Control back in the day, I once tapped 7 lands to cast Cruel Ultimatum knowing that I didn't have the right mana. Opponent never noticed. Won the game because of it.

I've done this too. Back in the day of Reflecting Pool, Vivid Creek and filter lands, I was so used to getting any color of mana that I wanted. I tapped five lands for Primal Command without realizing that I didn't have two green mana.
My opponent shuffled his graveyard into his library before a spectator pointed out, "Um, how are you making GG?"
I keep drawing on the play in non-EDH formats, because I'm used to it from EDH. The shocking part is no one has ever called me out on it.
Try doing that at a Pro Tour Qualifier. I guarantee you that you will get a game loss. (or at least be forced to mull to 6 with a warning)
As for me, I will admit that I did numerous lopsided trades back in the day before Mythics. I played at an LGS in Northern CA where there were many casual players who didn't care about non casual cards that happened to be worth a lot. I once even had a "$1" throw-in of a FOIL Jotun Grunt from Coldsnap when it was worth $18 (mainly because of rarity). I traded for numerous Chalice of the Void at $1 per trade because nobody liked that card. Engineered Explosives, Revised Dual lands, Tarmogoyfs, etc.
I don't feel bad about it because all people were aged 20 and up. They are adults and have the right to trade for something that is better in their eyes than SCG's buylist.
