Hi,
I'm new to magic and a couple years ago I purchased a starter box, the yellow one. In it I got Liliana of the veil but it wasn't till later I found out how good and rare it was. Unfortunately I played casually with it and it got a few nicks on the edges. Obviously to a collector this would immensely decrease its value. I was wondering what the standards were for different card qualities, from new mint to used. Also, I was wondering if all planeswalkers were foil or not.
Thanks!
So i'll be staying toronto for a couple of months and would like to test out my deck in tournaments here, i play modern and standard.
Ive researched quite a few stores and will check them out..... one by one probably lol, but does anyone have any suggestions as to which store has the most population when it comes to modern and/or standard magic fnms/thursday night modern/draft etc...

So I have been playing for a year or two now but I still don't know what to do when this happens. So there are times when I am playing and the only cards I have in my hand and the only one I'm drawing are creatures that I can't play because of a bad shyffle. An I supposed to keep drawing and discarding until I get more land or do I do a special type of mulligan? Thank you.

Once you are satisfied with your opening hand (and have taken any mulligans as normal), you're stuck with what you draw.
My scenario. I have 3 creatures plus Hanwei Militia Captain in play. This transforms my HMC into a 4/4 Westvale Cult Leader. Let's say your pass the turn and your opponent attacks and kills one of your creatures and passes the turn back to you. Now you have 2 creatures plus Westvale Cult Leader and you cast 2 more creatures plus the token that WCL gives you. Does this make your WCL a 6/6? Is the Power and toughness of WCL transitional as the number of creatures on your board changes??? Pls anyone...

We have a Rulings Forum where you can get all your game state and rules questions answered by users which are judges, advisors, or just really knowledgeable about the game. We also encourage card tags (the Magic Ruling forum requires them).
Anyway, for your question. During your upkeep, you have four creatures to include Hanwei Militia Captain. HMC will transform into Westvale Cult Leader (currently a 4/4). You move to end step, getting you a token (WCL is now a 5/5). One of your creatures dies during your opponent's turn, dropping WCL back to a 4/4. Now during your turn you cast two more creatures, and WCL becomes a 5/5, then 6/6.
The broader answer is that creatures whose power/toughness are */* have fluid numbers which constantly change based on the condition of *.
Hello, been wanting to get into Magic to collect. But where do I start?? Do I start with the old old cards from the 90's till now? Do they have like a book to show you all the cards that have been made? If someone can help me that would be great!
So I have some questions regarding Magic in general as well as deck classification but I'm not entirely sure if they're worthy of a thread or where I would put them, can anybody help?
I want to know how to post a decklist in a nice format with spells and lands in sections, where people can hover over the card names and see the images. for example, this post has the decklist in a nice format:

We have a Casual Forum which would be a better place to post a deck list and look for advice with 60-card kitchen table Magic. Additionally, we have a tag tutorial thread which can help you with using [deck] tags to make decklists easier to read.
This is my first post here, I'm sure there is a better thread to post this but I can't find it. I'm a casual player I bought some sealed boosters packs and boxes on black Friday. When I was going through my new cards I found this double sided card but whats unusual is the error.one side is printed normal, the back side though the image is sideways and enlarged. I did some looking on the web I can't find any errors like this. Is it playable? Should I seal it up and lock it in my safe? I've linked two images one of the front and the back.
It's a new mechanic for Eldrich Moon: Meld. You'll notice that on Midnight Scavengers at the bottom it says "Melds with Graf Rats. Find a copy of Graf Rats and you'll notice two things: first, the back side will have half of a card that when paired with your Midnight Scavengers forms one larger card. Second, on the front side of Graf Rats will be a condition for "melding" the two cards (the meld mechanic exiles the two cards and returns them to the battlefield flipped as a single card). Hi, when I builded a new deck I started wondering that if I have an artifact, Thopter Spy Network and Energy Flux on the battlefield. Which one triggers first at the beginning of my upkeep? If Network triggers first do I have to pay 2 to Energy Flux so it would not destroy my thopter?
You should post this question in its own thread in the Rules Forum. And, use card tags:
They both trigger at the same time (at the beginning of your upkeep). If the artifact is not on the battlefield before your upkeep, it will not have the trigger to make you pay 2. Also note that it is not Energy Flux itself that triggers. Instead, its all your artifacts that trigger.
In this case, since you need another artifact somewhere to start the Thopters from Spy Network, you will pay 2 for that artifact and get a token. Next upkeep, you will pay 4 (2 for the original artifact and 2 for the thopter from the previous turn) and get another token and so on
I sent an e-mail to WotC this morning that i'd like to share here. Not sure if it deserves its own thread or not. Do you have a thread for that kind of thing already?

They just couldn't put 7th edition into Modern because of the card borders? Seriously? Count me out.
Hi all, I am a high school aged student who has had a box from 1993 passed down to me from my uncle. I am probably posting this in the wrong spot on the forums (not new to forums just this one) and am wondering if this is rare? Highly Valued? Any opinions on it in general? All of the original cards are still there, in pretty good condition I think. I am very new to the game and have begun to play with friends at school as a teacher has recently started a Magic club. I have compiled a card list and made a spreadsheet but am not sure if I should make that public so I wont as of yet. Not interested in selling whatsoever but am interested in the lore and history behind the deck if anybody knows anything.
So I am very new to playing this game, I love it, but there is so much to learn. I have what I think is a pretty decent Merfolk deck. This may seem like a dumb question, but I was curious if there were any merfolk cards that could be tapped to be islands? I know there are cards that do that, I’m just not sure about Merfolk, or I guess blue cards for that matter. I would love some help, please and thank you.
Salutations everyone, my apologies if this is this the wrong thread to post. This is my first forum post that I have posted anywhere online.
I have been playing card Magic (no online) for about a year now and am thinking about heading to my first FNM in a few weeks and am nervous as I have never been a social person, and the only people I have played against is my best friend and girlfriend. Both use their original starter decks, and I have upgraded my deck heavily over the past year and as a result I am seeking to pursue new challenges and social interactions. If someone has any tips for me, that would be awesome. Also, if someone could take a look at my deck and let me know their thoughts on it that would be great as well. As I said, if this is not the appropriate place, my apologies.
I have created several variant decks in the deck builder which, for various reasons, I'd like to delete. Is there any way to do that, or are they going to be clogging up the My Decks list forever?
So I've just recently decided to catalogue my 20+ year old collection. In it I found a Mirrodin block Somber Hoverguard with a large "B" printed in the top right corner. It appears to be part of the print and not a later addition. Can't find what that would mean anywhere. Any ideas?

There's a sub-forum here in General to find playtest groups http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/magic-general/deckbuilding-playtest-groups
Alternatively, a search on Facebook found this group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/296429773813652/
I'd suggest to send a join request to that group and post there about their local stores, since you'll have direct access to locals via that group
edit: Aaaand I just realized that post was made weeks ago. Woops.
