I've been using the Ultra Pro satin tower to store my modern decks/dice/counters. It's pretty solid all around, but I've been looking for alternatives to the traditional deck box. Ideally, I'd like to find a wooden box with which I can store a double sleeved modern deck + SB and some counters. There are a number of various wooden boxes on Amazon, but I'm having some trouble determining whether they're large enough to fit a sleeved deck. I'd like to hear what you folks use to store your own decks?! Also, if you know where I might find a wooden box similar to what I'm searching for, I'd really appreciate the suggestion/PM!
Generally, wooden deck boxes come at a premium price.
Wyrmwood makes some high quality boxes, and you can choose the wood with which they are made, but these run at minimum about 40 or so dollars. The wood you choose to have it made out of impacts the price greatly.
Aaron Cain makes some premium hand crafted deck boxes as well, and offers more as far as customization.
Personally, I use a satin tower for one of my modern decks (Death and Taxes), but am looking for another deck box at the moment. I also have a modern burn deck, which I keep in a REP Gaming steel deck box, which very reliable and probably the most structurally sound deck box I have ever used.
I just looked up the REP box and it really does look sturdy. I've hear about the Wyrmwood boxes and I think that's going to be what I end up choosing if nothing else pans out. I should've mentioned that I'm looking for wooden chests/boxes/etc which aren't marketed as deck boxes; like you mentioned, this is because I've found some pretty neat boxes for relatively cheap. Just unsure about the dimensions needed. I measured a standard plastic ultra pro box and it came to roughly 9.5cm x10cm x5cm. Just a generic box similar to something like this http://www.amazon.com/New-Age-Floral-Design-Handcrafted/dp/B000FGTSFW/ref=pd_sim_201_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=5156bp-XmcL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=112R11YJS2VFP3MRFF08
I would be hesitant to look too hastily into anything not directly marketed as a deck box, particularly if you have a deck of which you are particularly fond. If you want good deck box reviews, you should check out Tolarian Community College on Youtube as he does very comprehensive reviews on deck boxes and other products.
I store my individual decks in deck boxes then 3 deck boxes in a fat pack box, I carry my rares and play stuff in binders, I then store commons and uncommons in 800 count boxes and non rare lands in a shoe box
