They're roughly the same, but Leonin Abunas has...
1 - more flexible casting cost
2 - more toughness
3 - doesn't require being untapped
4 - effects artifact creatures too
5 - gives hexproof instead of shroud
6 - doesn't benefit enemy artifacts
Holy crap, abunas is strictly better in SIX different ways!
Now, granted, that's not QUITE fair since sometimes preventing opponents from targeting their own artifacts could be important, or maybe you want to let shields down in a multiplayer game so being able to disable via tapping could be useful, etc, so they aren't all perfect "strictly-better-than" criteria, but they're pretty close. Type-wise they both have useful types, spirit is probably better than cleric, but cat also has a little synergy. So could go either way there.
Anyway it had me wondering...what cards have you found with the most strictly-better-than properties of other cards? Can anyone beat 6? (or come up with a 5-6 that's cleaner)
Carnage Tyrant is a good one versus Craw Wurm - Same mana cost but plus 1 power, plus 2 toughness, can't be countered, trample, hexproof for five. If you count "has a creature type that receives tribal bonuses from several cards", you get six.

I for one definitely think a stronger creature type helps. "Merfolk" or "Elf" confers a list of additional benefits compared to something like "Weird".

Well if we are counting creature types OP's original example has to be slightly reevaluated (although it does still have a tremendous and possibly unbeatable/only tie-able number of strictly betternesses). I think being a Spirit is a bit better than being a Cat.
The Bible teaches us to be like God, and on the very next page it describes God as a mass murderer. There is only one difference between laughter and slaughter. Success is the sole earthly judge of right and wrong. Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
- Great creature type (Goblin) and good creature type (warrior) over the unsupported Satyr and Devil.
- Extra point of toughness.
- Costs 1 rather than R to activate.
- Hits Eldrazi (but misses colored artifacts).
- Gives an option to shock a creature (a MASSIVE upgrade).
That's strictly better on at least four counts, and as many as six if you count both creature types and Eldrazi as better than than colored artifacts. Not to mention adding the option to shock a creature at no cost is an absurd thing to add to any card for free.
In the past someone can pay 5 mana to gain 4 life from Stream of Life, today a person can pay the same 5 mana and gain 5 life from Thragtusk. Power is creeping.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Not only is there only one aspect of betterness here (maybe two if you count Wolves getting a little bit of tribal bonuses), this isn't even a strictly better relationship.

Not a clean five since the fourth point is just a sidegrade (missing colored artifacts hardly ever matters given there are relatively few and fewer still are played in Constructed, BUT there are still things like Bow of Nylea and Sharuum the Hegemon and the notorious Ethersworn Canonist) but still a pretty great example.
In the past someone can pay 5 mana to gain 4 life from Stream of Life, today a person can pay the same 5 mana and gain 5 life from Thragtusk. Power is creeping.
Apparently apples are strictly better than oranges? It's nonsense to compare an uncommon sorcery to a rare creature, especially since you can pay 20G to gain 20 life or, if you have to, 1G to gain 1 life for the Stream.
Yeah, one of them cantrips, but is that cantrip really worth 6?
Sometimes, yeah. Ember Shot is not a good card - in fact it's at least 2 overcosted to be what we'd call "premium" removal in Limited, but it's not strictly worse.
Back on track, I think the Baneslayer Angel/Plover Knights relationship is a good example. Baneslayer is EVEN MORE better than Silverclaw Griffin, Starlit Angel, and I think the best example ever might be versus Lucent Liminid. Not all of these are clean, but here's what Baneslayer has over the Liminid:
- First strike
- Lifelink
- +2 power
- +2 toughness
- Protection from Demons
- Protection from Dragons
- Not vulnerable to enchantment removal
Doesn't have a drawback (yes, bouncing your stuff can sometimes be tech)
If you don't accept 3GW as worse than 3WW, then Baneslayer and Doom Whisperer score 1 less. You can put the latter against Gutwrencher Oni if you prefer.
Cogwork Grinder outside of draft vs literally anything else.
It's definitely strictly worse than every colorless creature that costs six or less. Lets put it against something with a decent number of upsides for the sake of the challenge.
Lightning Bolt > Strife, because it's still R for 3 damage, but bolt has a better card type & two less targeting restrictions. Bolt has even been common before.
-- can draw a card each turn
-- can ping to death an opponent who has only one or two life left
-- can be tutored with Blood Speaker
-- can be put onto the battlefield with Shadowborn Apostle
-- paying only one life each turn is better than cumulative upkeep
A score of eight if you accept them all. Being an artifact is more of a side-grade, but you could call it a point if you really wanted to inflate the score. Notably, Cat and Warrior are both better than Wurm.
My sister tells me that it's not fair to call Dragonlord Atarka strictly better than Palladia-Mors because they arent' exactly the same colors. If this is the case, a lot of my highest scoring comparisons break down.
The thing about this challenge is that there is no accounting for quality. Goblin Welder is immeasurably better than Mons's Goblin Raiders, but it's only got a single point by this system.
If the card is easier to cast and there are fewer colors, then imho, it should count pretty cleanly, Commander deckbuilding be damned. Therefore I'm hiiiiighly impressed at the Jedit-Wurmcoil thing. That's tough to beat.
and then -1 for not having Vigilance
Score = Baneslayer 5 - Serra Angel 1
Well no, it doesn't count.
While nobody would argue that Baneslayer is better in many ways and is the better card, not having vigilance makes it not at all strictly better in the same sense that Moonveil Dragon isn't strictly better than Volcanic Dragon.

- More versatile mana cost
- More efficent power and toughness for same mana cost
- No need to sacrifice lands
- No need to have untapped lands
- No need to have Forests
- Can't be countered
- Haste
- Protection from Blue
- easy sinergy with any card that have counters matter mechanic.
that's a score of nine i guess?
I wouldn't count "counter synergy" as a plus. It should be intrinsically better. Also, counters could be a downside vs, say, kulrath knight or vampire hexmage.
I also probably wouldn't count versatile and efficient as two different things, or untapped lands and forests as two different things. Also in some circumstances it COULD be better, i.e. if lands somehow lost all abilities via, say, humility + living plane - although that's corner-case enough that it can probably be ignored.
protection is a little tough since it's generally a plus, but it can be a minus if you wanted to enchant it or something. Pro demons and dragons are closer to being strict upsides, since there are few dragons/demons with positive targeted abilities (jugan, the rising star and minion of tevesh szat are about the only ones, plus anything that's gotten turned into one with imagecrafter or whatever).

So I'd say it's more like 5.5.
