So what is going on with the "racist" stuff that started up a month ago, they took some action, but I have seen basically nothing since then and some of it was the most ignorant removal I have ever seen a game company ever go to and one I think was long over due. Im still dumbfounded with Crusade, anyone else care to explain that one for me too?
I don't think Crusade and Jihad got axed for being racist, but rather because they reference real world genocidal wars and terrorism (both Islamic terror with Jihad and anti-Islamic terror with crusade, as far right groups have adopted the language and imagery of the crusades and have refered to anti Islamic terror attacks as crusades). I disagree with those to getting banned, because holy wars shouldn't be off bounds for the game, even if referencing the real world is a bit tacky. Cleanse was unfortunate but wasn't intended to be and was clearly depicting actual demons so I think that was fine as well. The others involved things that were much more overt, including outright slurs, and should have been excised long ago. As time goes on, it appears less and less likely that any more cards will be banned. I could see them potentially axing consulate dreadnaught for the 7/11 joke, but I think if they do it will be in conjunction with the release of a functional reprint in a set that isn't Indian themed.

The Meaning of Life: "M-hmm. Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations"
Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
I totally agree, and yeah, the only one I truly seen and should have been dealt with (like 20 years ago) was the Invoke Prejudice, but the rest is basically comes down to that. And the Imprison to me is just taken out of context. Its an iron looking mask from art work from the early 90s, its not as crisp and clean as it would be today, and then you got the people who say its because of "Slavery", well, biggest bust on that is slavery has been done for thousands of years from nearly every culture around the world.

The fact that slavery was acceptable back in the day is no excuse for creating a card referencing it. In general, just because the majority agrees to something doesn't make it right. There are numerous examples of this throughout history. That is just another way to try and justify one of the most inhumane crimes against humanity.
No one is asking everyone to forget the past. Eliminating the existence of racist or insensitive cards does erase the memory of slavery or other injustices against humanity. It is a similar issue with states - you don’t put these thing in the face of those who were affected by it.
well you're probably not seeing many more removals right now because they hit all the big ones. they also dealt with all the big time offender artists, though lets be real most of them haven't had work commissioned in a long time. it was much more of an issue in the early days of magic than it is now. though, don't confuse that with there not being issues now either.
they're dealing with issues as they come up because they dealt with the known ones. that's like... pretty ******* standard stuff. its not the heavy fisted ban everything cancel culture some magic players want you to believe. most of this crap will be nailed before cards are print now, but there will be times it slips by and has to be dealt with. that's also pretty ******* standard for every company out there.
the reasons those cards got banned has been talked about, and talked about, and talked about. the reasons those artists had support dropped has been discussed too. look up any of the many news articles or previously locked threads if you still don't understand the reasons.
we don't need this thread yet again, though we do very much need something regarding it all stickied at the top of the forums so we stop going through this every single week. wotc took a stance, they should have years ago but they finally did. finally after years of knowing about this. its time mtg:s did too.
Well, none of this is really news anymore but sure let's HASH IT OUT one more time.
These cards were considered objectionable and they were banned. If you don't understand the context behind a specific card's inclusion on the list, well here you go.
If you are here to strike up a conversation about the merits of such a move, well I'm afraid that will probably go nowhere positive. It is their game. Ship has sailed. Cards are banned. Let it go.
Honestly, besides being objectionable, at the end of the day 100% of these cards are all pretty ******* terrible anyway and shouldn't really be missed in the first place. They weren't playable (not even Crusade) if you were playing anywhere other than your kitchen table. Not sure why they would be missed at all.
as there has been previous discussion on this topic here and here, I will be locking this thread. I will sticky the earlier thread so that anyone can see it for future reference
