Ok, I'm pretty sure someone has prolly made a thread like this, but I couldn't find one so if they did, it hasn't been active for awhile.
So, just as a fun, "what if?" thread. If you were to find yourself transported on Pre-Dissension Ravnica, what guild would you join? Also if you could say why that particular guild suits you.
Rakdos was the obvious choice for me, their red black magic suits my own "colors" but sometimes the obvious choice isn't the best and I dont like their cult and self sacrificing ways.
So, I would join the Izzet. I like tinkering around with gadgets and such, and while blue is not one of my favorite magics, red is... plus, the Dragonic guild leader is a huge point in Izzets favor for me.
If we're not taking actual cards into account (which, in my choice's case, are godawful), I'm a Dimir. I like their sneakiness and, through one's spy network, being able to keep tabs on all the goings-on in Ravnica is cool.
I think I've learned to treat Magic cards like baseball cards: keep 'em in a binder in numerical order, don't play with 'em, try to finish the set and just keep my head down.
Without a doubt Dimir. The Dimir are spies and people of guile who understand the idea that physical harm isn't the only way of inflicting damage on the opponent. I can also see the Dimir being trained in espionage and deception as well as stealthy close quarters combat which I like.
I honestly thought about both Dimir and Rakdos (I mentioned Rakdos in the first post) but in the end, they seemed like the two guilds in which you could get in WAY over your head. With Rakdos you could end up as a sacrifice or a casualty of one of their explosive parties, and with Dimir, you would end of with your throat slit, left to lie on a dark alley if you ever had second thoughts. With Mizzet, he's egotistical and dreadfully clever, but he also has the awfully large benefit of being a dragon. Demons are always baddies in classic literature, and if you dont count all these new teen vampire books, so are vampires, whereas dragons have been more iffy. I honestly dont think Niv Mizzet is EVIL, really, just vain and a bit eccentric.
Well, my favorite guilds playing the game were Gruul and Rakdos, probably the most savage of the guilds.
But since we're talking about actually being in them, and the fact that Gruul and Rakdos probably have the highest mortality rates among all the guilds (seriously, how does Rakdos keep getting recruits if everyone just keeps dying?), I'd go for something more like Boros or maybe Orzhov.

I agree that's a definite consideration to make but look at it this way, it's not much different from being in any say, intelligence organization like the CIA. And plus, with the exception of Izzet, Simic, and Azorius, pretty much all the guilds are relatively likely to kill you for trying to leave for one reason or another. Heck, even Selesnya might take you out.
Vampires are generally bad yes but they tend to be Lawful Evil in a lot of literature. I'll take my chances.
Just to point out, each guild has it's own individual flaw. For instance if your in simic, expect to be experimented on. If your in the Golgari, expect to be turned into the undead fairly shortly. Yet it depends on which flaw your must suited with when choosing your guild.
Guys! There is no guild named "House Dimir"
I would join Azorius. It's my favorite color combination, and I could see myself standing on the top of one of Prahv's cold towers, watching the endless mass of buildings under me, making sure nobody is making any trouble. Laughing at anyone even TRYING to harm me. Keeping the peace with Sky Hussars controling the skies and Paladin of Prahv marching the streets. Or hanging in the library with Walking Archive, storing files after files, or "learning the rules" with Minister of Impediments (see flavor), yes, the possibilites are endless.

I understand what you mean about the Boros. I like martial arts and training but I'm not the military type. I prefer one on one combat as opposed to military engagement. Another reason I like Dimir.
Would have to be Orzhov. The Mafia wrapped up as a religion. Gotta say hell yes!~

But I'd probably end up sweeping the floors of the Church of Deals.
