I've just recently started getting into MTG because my brother bought a ton of cards. I decided to build a deck online of Black and Red cards, and one irl with Green and Blue (atm I only really have Green and Blue land cards) Could I get some opinions on my decks? Here are some links to the decks that I had put through deckstats:
My Green/Blue deck was built with limited resources, I have a ton of cards but not much variety as far as quality goes. Picked the best of what I had and rolled with it.
- For your BR deck, your curve is WAY too high. You have too many high costing cards with nothing in the early turns. This deck also has a problem of not doing much at all. You have way too situational cards like Dark Betrayal, which is a dead card in hand if you're not playing against a deck with black.
- For both your decks, your land count is WAY too low. On average the sweet spot for the number of lands is 24.
- Once you sort through your deck and find your strongest or favorite cards, you will need to get multiples. The decks have too many one-of copies, making the deck very inconsistent. For example, Lightning Bolt is a very powerful card that costs only one mana, so it needs to be an auto-4 of.
If anything your UG deck is much better. The curve is lower with more impactful cards, although you have so very questionable cards like River Heralds' Boon when you don't have any merfolk creatures.
Again I don't have very many cards to choose from, so at this point replacing or duplicating cards isn't really an option for me. Either way, I'd still like to know if the deck is at least relatively decent considering my limitations.
btw TBuzzsaw I have Touch of Darkness so my Dark Betrayal is only situational if I want it to be. As I'm revising my BR deck I added 3 Touch of Darkness so I'm able to cast all 3 of my Dark Betrayals easily and considering the low mana cost of both cards I'd say it's a useful strat when dealing with creatures that might give me some problems.
I have Touch of Darkness so my Dark Betrayal is only situational if I want it to be.
That's not quite accurate. It's still always situational; you've just slightly increased the number of situations. Unless you're going against black creatures or have Touch of Darkness in your hand, it's a dead card. For two mana, since you're running red, you're better off running Terminate instead and saving the three Touch of Darkness slots for something more useful.
