When I use Master of the Wild Hunt ability having only one 2/2 Wolf, targeting my own Boros Reckoner, may I have the Boros not deal damage to the tapped Wolf from the MoWH ability?
As the card reads:
"That creature deals damage equal to its power divided as its controller chooses among any number of those Wolves"
Or from rules:
"Each Wolf chosen by that player must be dealt at least 1 damage."
May I choose "none", or number "0", or deal only 1 point of damage?
Since you are dividing damage, all creatures that are to get some of that division must get at least 1 damage, and you must distribute all among the chosen objects/players. You cannot choose to have a source of damage deal less damage just because you want to. Since there is only one wolf, it has to take it all.
edit:
608.2d If an effect of a spell or ability offers any choices other than choices already made as part of
casting the spell, activating the ability, or otherwise putting the spell or ability on the stack, the
player announces these while applying the effect. The player can’t choose an option that’s
illegal or impossible, with the exception that having a library with no cards in it doesn’t make
drawing a card an impossible action (see rule 120.3). If an effect divides or distributes
something, such as damage or counters, as a player chooses among any number of untargeted
players and/or objects, the player chooses the amount and division such that at least one player
or object is chosen if able, and each chosen player or object receives at least one of whatever is
being divided. (Note that if an effect divides or distributes something, such as damage or
counters, as a player chooses among some number of target objects and/or players, the amount
and division were determined as the spell or ability was put onto the stack rather than at this
time; see rule 601.2d.)
107.1c If a rule or ability instructs a player to choose “any number,” that player may choose any
positive number or zero, unless something (such as damage or counters) is being divided or
distributed among “any number” of players and/or objects. In that case, a nonzero number of
players and/or objects must be chosen if possible.
With Core Set 2020, the answer to comment 1 has changed.
The rule update for Core Set 2020 deleted the exception that applied, among other things, to the "any number" on Master of the Wild Hunt's second ability (compare C.R. 107.1c and 608.2d in Modern Horizons with those rules in Core Set 2020). Before Core Set 2020, the damage dealt by the targeted creature due to that ability couldn't be divided among zero of the Wolves that ability refers to if it was possible to divide that damage among one or more of those Wolves. Once Core Set 2020 is released (and in prereleases), that damage can be divided this way among none of those Wolves even if it is possible to divide that damage among one or more of those Wolves instead.
