My opponent has one creature on board, and I have one creature on board and neither have any instance of evasion. I declare attackers and choose my creature and tap it. I pass priority and it goes to declare blockers. He declares to block my creature with his. If I cast a spell to remove his creature, such as Path to Exile, does my creature do any damage? Or since its already declared as a blocker, does the block go through?
Also, when does the creature damage happen and when does the player take damage, on the combat damage step?
If a creature becomes blocked, it stays blocked regardless of what happens to the blocker(s) unless a spell or ability explicitly makes the attacker unblocked. If you remove the blocker after blockers have been declared, then your creature will not deal damage unless it has trample.
Combat is structured as follows:
1. Beginning of combat
2. Declare attackers
3. Declare blockers
4a. First strike damage step
4b. Regular damage step
5. End of combat
Creatures and players take damage simultaneously at the relevant combat damage step.
