121.3. If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it.
There is a period at which the permanent has the +1/+1 and the -1/-1 counters both. However, this condition is not allowed to persist. An equal number of both counters are removed, equal to the lesser stack, as a State-Based Action, which happens after the current spell or ability finishes resolving and before waiting triggered abilities go onto the Stack.

If a creature with a +1/+1 counter receives a -1/-1 counter, does it...
a. end up with one of each on it at the same time? Or
b. end up with no counters because they've offset each other.
