So Earthquake for 1R to deal 1 damage to four players in a typical EDH game, you get to exile top four cards of your library? The knight's ability did not say it has to be an opponent.
I'm not sure about that. Check out the rulings for Blaze Commando. Mana Clash, on the other hand, might work...
I said two cards are different. Blaze Commando checks each incident of "deal damage" on a card, so Collective Defiance would create four tokens (I asked a judge about it), while Syr Carah checks each time damage is dealt to "a player".
As I mentioned on another thread, Syr Carah's first ability triggers each time "Syr Carah, the Bold" or "an instant or sorcery spell you control" deals damage to "a player" (C.R. 603.2, especially C.R. 603.2c; for the use of the indefinite article a or an here, see this thread). If Syr Carah or the spell deals damage to multiple players at the same time, that ability triggers once for each such player. Compare Syr Carah with—
Stensia, which has an ability that, whenever "a creature" deals damage to "one or more players" for the first time each turn, triggers once for each such creature, no matter how many players are dealt damage this way, and
Sun-Crowned Hunters, whose ability ("Whenever Sun-Crowned Hunters is dealt damage, ...") triggers only once each time Sun-Crowned Hunters is dealt damage, no matter how much damage that is or how many sources deal that damage to Sun-Crowned Hunters at once.
I had a discussion with a forum buddy about her:
