If my opponent is down to two (2) life and he casts Merciless Eviction and in response I cast Shock targeting him, what happens to his spell on the stack?
I tried looking for this is past forums but all I found was this but it had no response.
If a player leaves the game all cards they own and all abilities they control leave the game. So spells the put on the stack leave the stack and never have their effects.
Don't bother with other (and so often misinformed) forums; check here, or check the actual rules:
Rule 800.4a When a player leaves the game, all objects [spells are objects] owned by that player leave the game (...). It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. (...)
Second, your title makes me wonder... "before Stack resolves"
Just in case you meant this literally, be aware that the stack does not resolve. That is, no more.
The concept of the stack resolving has been purged from Magic (somewhere around 1998-1999). Perhaps you were thaught wrong by someone who learned to play long ago and hasn't kept up?
Nowadays, OBJECTS on the stack resolve, ONE AT A TIME. Have a peek at rules 117 and 405.

I have been playing for a while just wasn't aware of the semantics of the stack and it objects. Thanks for the insight though!
