Ruling says, "If an effect puts a double-faced card onto the battlefield, it enters with its front face up. If that front face can’t be put onto the battlefield, it doesn’t enter the battlefield."
So if I blink a modal land like Zof Consumption, it just stays in exile?
Yes. In general, a modal double-faced card in exile has only the characteristics of its front face (C.R. 711.4a), and thus won't enter the battlefield if that front face is an instant or sorcery, regardless of what card types the card's back face has (C.R. 711.10b, 110.4; see also C.R. 304.4, 307.4). Even if the effect says to put it onto the battlefield transformed, that card won't enter this way (C.R. 711.10a). In general, a modal double-faced card whose front face is an instant or sorcery and whose back face is a land can enter the battlefield only if a player plays that card's back face, in which case the card enters with its back face up (C.R. 711.8).
