Hi all,
The exact interactions that mdfc cards have with certain effects escape me. I know they changed cascade rules to clarify some of this, but my question is if you Polymorph into an mdfc card such as the upcoming Augmenter Pugilist // Echoing Equation is it like cascade and you can play the second side instead of putting the Pugilist side onto the battlefield?
No. Nothing in Polymorph tells any player to cast any spells, and if a player puts a double-faced card (modal or otherwise) onto the battlefield with Polymorph, it will enter with its front face up (C.R. 711.10). In any case, the back face (not: second side) of the card Augmenter Pugilist, namely Echoing Equation, is a sorcery and so that face can't enter the battlefield anyway (C.R. 307.4).
In general, you can choose between a modal double-faced card's front or back face only at the moment you're playing or casting that card, and not when you're moving it from one zone to another for any other reason (as with Polymorph) (C.R. 711.7, 711.8, 711.10).
