I want to know happened to Dovin? Does he follow Tez?
Baan is loyal to the government, and whether he likes it or not Tezzeret currently holds a higher position in that government than Baan does. So Baan will follow Tezzeret's orders as a matter of rank, but only as long as he feels that the Consul has moral authority. If he feels that Tezzeret undermines that authority through his own actions (such as by making death threats just to motivate people), its likely IMO that Baan will do the same thing to Tezzeret that he did to Baral.
Baan's values are pretty easy to understand, when you get down to it. He is a technocrat; he loves innovation, progress, and order, and if that means violating the rights of the minority to keep that order or promote technological progress so be it. But if it gets so bad that it becomes counterproductive to progress and civil order, he will take you down with impartiality towards who you are or where you come from. The enemies of his enemies are not his friends.
A couple questions about the make up of the consulate:
1) How are consuls selected? Are they elected or are they appointed, and if appointed then by whom? The current consuls?
2) How many consuls are there? To my knowledge only two (Kambal and Padeem) have been discussed but I'm assuming there are more. Has any of this been revealed somewhere?

The artbook answers both.
1. Ultimately, a vacant consul seat is filled by a vote of the other consuls. However, this is after an extensive process where citizens can nominate candidates, candidates are interviewed in a public forum, and also must perform a demonstration of some sort to show that they are competent in the area that they are going to be consul of.
2. There are 11 consuls- harkening back to Ghirapur's founding, which was as a peace agreement to end a brutal war between 11 principalities (the principalities eventually became obsolete over the years). Each consul has total dominion over their specific domain (ie, aether allocation in the case of Kambahl), but all are officially equal when it comes to overall governance.
Awesome, thank you! That is a lot of cool information. Does it say what the other departments besides allocation and innovation are?
Also, I thought I'd add that today's story was pretty good. Advanced the plot, utilized block characters in a cool way, and had an awesome scene with a whale rugby rushing a spaceship.

With how the story unfolds, I am very afraid that the artbook is again quite innacurate.
Baral is locked up as of the end of latest story. Jace uses his Illusionist's Stratagem, but not during the rebel attack on the Death Star Aether Spire, but now. And Baral is not the one who dispels it.

Indeed. I noted the inconsistencies as well. I've prettymuch accepted that the art books need to be taken with a grain of salt, given that they likely go to press before the website stories are even written.

I might be wrong here but what was so inaccurate with the Innistrad artbook? The same events took place but those from the story articles were naturally more detailed. I didn't get a chance to read it myself but I did get to read the Zendikar artbook and that one was spot on.

A tidbit from the FB page of the Consulate...some more of Kari Zev's background:
This is a message from Sekar Rabi of the Department of Security and Enforcement.
Sources close to the renegade movement have confirmed that notorious sky pirate Karpani Zevanwat (known by the alias Kari Zev) and her ship, the Dragon's Smile, have been involved in ongoing attacks on our city. Zev, along with her crew and a monkey that goes by the name of Ragavan, is wanted for numerous raids on Consulate skyships and theft of Consulate cargo. Zev has engaged in multiple aerial confrontations with aether collecting vessels and Consulate sky surveillance ships. Next to leviathans and dragons, Kari Zev is the greatest threat to the brave Consulate pilots who patrol our skies.
When contacted for comment, Zevanwat's parents, both Consulate functionaries, expressed their desperation for their daughter to land her ship and cease her raids. It's heartbreaking to see a family torn apart by the renegade mentality. Zevanwat is just one of many examples of upstanding citizens who were seduced by the lies of the renegades. Don't allow this to happen to your loved ones. Remind your children of the good the Consulate does. Encourage your families to stay safe and stand with their city.
We understand that recent protective measures the Consulate has been forced to take may have made it difficult for some citizens to access aether, create new inventions, or continue their research. Many brilliant minds within the Consulate have had to postpone their own research as well. We would not ask you to do something we were not willing to do ourselves. We must all make sacrifices for the good of our city and our way of life. Once Ghirapur is safe from the renegade threat—and it will be very soon—all will be restored. Thank you for your patience and continued cooperation.

Well, Nicol Bolas said that he Ruled 50% of the planes in the multiverse (don't ask me how you can rule half of infinity, ask the 30,000 year old god-dragon who made this claim) Theoretically pre-mending he presumably used the Infinite Consortium or something along those lines in order to trade among his holdings and now that planeswalkers can not do that as easily he needs something to keep his empires' trade going.

Assuming that the MTG's multiverse has the least possible cardinality while still being infinite, start numbering all planes beginning with 1 (choosing a random one as the first; maybe Dominaria). Bolas rules all the planes with an odd assigned number and doesn't rule the ones with even assigned number.

I want to say in one of the Timespiral Novels, He did in the very least speak of worlds that he ruled there so the same theory applies even if the number of worlds isn't as large and he tried to recruit Radha, Heir to Keld to become a Gladiator on one of his worlds.

I gotta say, Dovin Baan earned some cool points with me when he charged and arrested Baral. Though he lost a few when he sabotaged the Hope of Ghirapur. Still, the fact that he's advising Chandra to evacuate the crew when Baral and Tezzeret would both happily kill them is strangely heartwarming, in that it shows Dovin's really not a bad guy, he just happens to be fighting for a government that arguably does not deserve his loyalty. But still, his heart is in the right place and he means well. Shoot, I think Dovin would make a good Grand Consul (though I would also love to see Pia Nalaar in that position).
Sram also scores cool points in my book. Again, a well-meaning government worker who's just trying to do his job keeping the city in good shape. I fear Kambal won't be too kind to him for losing control of the Aether Hub to the renegades, though. Then again, depending on the outcome of the revolt maybe Sram can get a good job with a new government built by Pia, Oviya, and others?
At any rate, with the Skysovereign brought down, the Spire and Planar Bridge destroyed, and Tezzeret defeated, the Consulate is basically defeated at this point, right? Ideally, a truce can be called and the Consuls and renegade leaders can reach an agreement on revised aether distribution as well as civil liberties.
And, should Dovin re-encounter the Gatewatch again, hopefully Jace can have a talk with him about Tezzeret, Bolas, and other matters. Who knows, maybe the Gatewatch will even be able to recruit Dovin? Though they should probably help with Kaladesh's rebuilding, first.
My guess going forward is that Liliana will charge off to Amonkhet to deal with Razaketh while the rest of the Watch will stay behind on Kaladesh to help with repairs. Jace may decide to follow Liliana since he's not going to be of much help with rebuilding, though he might try explaining the aforementioned matters to Baan before he goes (and of course his team can mentally communicate with each other through him). Chandra is going to spend some time catching up with her mother, Nissa's elementals can really help with rebuilding, and Ajani will be helping heal the wounded. Gideon will be sticking around at first to help restore order, though he will possibly follow Liliana along with Jace.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Quoting from the fat pack booklet:
"Based on what Liliana had learned from Tezzeret, the Gatewatch determine that he is working for the evil dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas. Ajani believes Nicol Bolas is hiding something on the plane of Amonkhet, but he warns the Gatewatch that Bolas is extremely dangerous and recommends that they regroup on Dominaria and secure additional aid before facing him. After Ajani leaves, however, the Gatewatch decide that they cannot wait any longer to free a world from the clutches of Bolas. They set their sights on Amonkhet and brace themselves for battle with the dragon."
Some bad assumptions made by Gatewatch here. One, they need no backup to take him on. Two, that Amonkhet is a world that needs saving from his clutches.
If hour of devastation isn't a member dying and the Gatewatch losing.......Just wow

I still think it's far too early to talk about any of the Gatewatch members dying. We know WotC won't even think about killing any of them off without having a planeswalker to replace their color, and with Ajani being away and black, blue, and red having not other candidates, I think it'll be at least a year before we see a member actually killed off. That said, I do think the Gatewatch will outright "lose" this block, and likely end with a permanent consequence of some kind. Bolas needs to be reestablished as a credible threat, and after the half victories against the Eldrazi and Tezzeret - both actions put into motion by Bolas, he himself has to be even more dangerous.
You're absolutely right about Amonkhet though. We don't know Bola's relationship with the plane. We know it's ruled by him, but we don't know anything about the people there. Even if they do want to be saved from his clutches, it doesn't change the fact that Amonkhet is Bolas's home turf.

I think it's more likely that they actually like Bolas. Wouldn't that be a culture shock?
