So a ?year and several months ago I began a thread celebrating the Men of MtG. Reading both the Wildered Quest by Kate Eliot and The Gathering Storm articles by Django Wrexler, I have been inspired to begin its sequel thread.
There are many women in Mtg that I admire, and even a few, such as Lilliana, that have admirable qualities despite my dislike of them.
I adore Kaya. From her debut, to War of the Spark, I have found her narrative very enjoyable, even as she pulls the rug from under my own guild and sets it to chaos. She is a delight to read.
Elspeth, Jaya, Vraska, Rowan, these are all enjoyable characters with a lot of strength and depth to them, and there are plenty of female planebound characters who are also pretty bada***.
I’m on my phone, or I’d write of more, but which female characters have you enjoyed in MtG? What qualities do you appreciate in these characters? Who are you a fan of?

While not my favorite I have to give a shout out to Zagorka. The level of swagger and competency she exhibited is a beacon of light in for what good characters should be. Building a city from nothing, conquering an army with gambling and being a third of the False God all in a world with magic and not having magic.
Of the planeswalkers, I like Saheeli (although she was barely introduced in the stories I've read) because of her optimism, Elspeth, as I enjoyed her character progression from someone who tries to run from her problems to someone who actually cares and Tamiyo, for her observing and calm demeanor.
For the planebound, Lavinia is by far my favorite. She seems disciplined, even if too rigid, competent and intelligent. (I'm a sucker for the righteous paladin types)
I admit I still haven't read all the stories they appear in and my opinion might change though.
Overall, although I'm male, I've always identified with female characters and many of them are relatable to me.

Thassa and Tamiyo are among my favorite characters alongside Jace. I really like Kiora as well, mostly for her interest in sea creatures. Nissa's maturity and stoic demeanor are aspects I admire as well, which is what I like about Tamiyo.
Overall Thassa for my favorite female character. I enjoyed the Planeswalker's Guide to Theros descriptions of her as a pondering, insightful and objective sea goddess. Although Godsend and short stories depicted her as mostly wrathful, you'll notice in Drop For Drop that she was willing to toy with Kiora to bolster her devotion, and paused to understand more about other worlds (which bought Kiora time to flee), suggesting to me she is actually quite calculating when enraged, as opposed to the emotional nature of Red characters.
