If you aren't caught up on the most recent Dominaria stories on the mtg home page, some spoilers below.
So, based on the last few chapters, I'm starting to think this author is foreshadowing that Chandra and Jaya are actually the same person. i.e. Maybe Chandra gets thrown back in time and 'becomes' Jaya.
I first got the idea when Chandra first 'meets' Jaya in Yavimaya, when they help Karn fend off the trees. When she sees Chandra she says 'Well, fancy meeting me here' from behind Chandra. Sure, on its own it could be interpreted in a tongue in cheek way of saying 'bet you weren't expecting me', but the author would want to foreshadow it without making it obvious, too. Plus, you'd say it that way once the other person had seen YOU, but she says it from behind when only Jaya has seen Chandra so far. If that was the only clue, I would have dropped the theory and attributed it to a weak writing moment (not saying the author is a weak writer, just that the specific passage makes less sense). But, in the latest chapter, she seems to be predicting what Chandra will say, or how she is feeling quite often. If you assume the theory is correct for a moment and re-read all their interactions, it holds up well. Jaya is seeing her younger self but can't tell her that. Combine that with how similar they are in what they wear (i.e. those goggles) and their magic style, it seems to fit so far.
It also makes sense from a non-lore perspective. Jaya is a fan favorite, so they brought her back, but mechanically she's so similar to Chandra that they have a hard time designing cards for each that are different enough. I could easily see them deciding that it was harder to make these two 'pyromancers' feel different enough and an easier solution would be to just make them the same person at different points in time. It will also lead to an epic twist reveal when we officially find out, if it is, indeed, true.
Anyone else think it's possible/likely or do you think I'm reading too far into it?
1. They have completely different sparking events.
2. Jaya has an established past prior to sparking on Dominaria, while Chandra has an established past prior to sparking on Kaladesh.
3. Jaya had black hair prior to going gray, while Chandra is a redhead.
So in order for them to be the same person, you'd not only need some time travel shenanigans, but also some reverse aging, un-sparking, and, at the very least, some hair dye.
Or it could just be the case that a pyromancer who grew up and out of a hot-headed youth is pretty darn capable of anticipating and understanding a hot-headed, young pyromancer.
I just fear that Jaya can be killed at the end of Dominaria storyline. Or die then on spot of the old age, which will be yet bigger fail for the plot (because there are folks much older!).
There is a possibility that she was returned to the lore just as an "expendable' character, if I can say so. To surprise the readers that she is Luti (was anyone surprised? ), and to pass to Chandra all her experience and knowledge. And after that her mission is complete. Chandra becomes her sucessor and a new "elder pyromancer"... I don't want this at all. Jaya acts younder that some of the characters that suit for her grandchildren by age, and it will be not fair to let her die.
I am sure that she won't go to Gatewatch and to swear by anything. So she is defenitely planned as a character for one world, just like all that ethnic girls like Saheeli-Arlinn-and so on. And I doubt that we will see her in Ravnica.
J just agree if she will return to Keralia and live there peacefully (or not very so) in the monastery back as Luti. Just, dear Wizards, let her be alive! I absolutely love her manner of communication
I'd prefer Liliana to get aged visually, sharply and at once, after the end of contract. She deserves that. It is if there is needed an elder woman with a threat to die at any moment.
Jaya can just retire back to Regatha, and Chandra will come to her from time to time to talk as equal.

No. We know who Chandra was before she sparked, and who Jaya was, too. They're not the same person.

Jodah is the oldest.
Well i suggested right him. And he was tired of living already in Ice Age novels.
But I'm worried that on the Wizards description about Jaya stands:
Jaya is aging normally, fully accepting that she is near the end of a long and productive life.
This mention of "the end" makes me bother. Sure she will die, as everybody sooner or later, but i urgently don't want it now.

I ship nowadays' Jaya with Chandra.
