I've been wondering recently where Gideon's storyline is going in the grander scheme of things. Yeah, right now everyone has Nicol Bolas on their mind and the Blackblade is an obvious weapon to weild against the Elder Dragon Planeswalker. But that's a story arc that will pass and probably not the end of all the protagonists.
There is a natural tendency to bring all the planeswalker's we've met after their ascension back to their origin. Chandra returned to Kaladesh to reunite with her surviving parent, Liliana has experienced a different kind of reunion with her brother, Nissa is so closely tied to her homeplane that it is where we met her twice and where she returns breaking her oath even as the other protagonists continue to follow mthe current story arc, and with Jace remembering his past now there is a possible path towards his homeplane as well.
And there is unfinished business on the plane of Theros with a planeswalker in the underworld and her friend Ajani now allied with the Gatewatch. It can be only a matter of time until Gideon follows the trope and returns home facing the pantheon he's disillusioned with maybe still carrying a mythical otherworldly weapon. Who knows what a souldrinker could do to a God?
Equipment is important on Theros - every God got its item of power (even if only monocolored Gods got theirs turned into cards) and Elspeth as the Champion immediately reforges her blade into Godsend. I feel in a new conflict between planeswalkers and gods the weapon the returning planeswalker wields will have special importance.
What would Kytheon Iora do returning to Theros knowing that a friend of a friend has been made a pawn in the game between the two deities that have used him as well and caused the death of his friends as well?
(This obviously assumes the blade will not e. g. get lost or relinquished as part of the current story arc against Bolas.)

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Honestly I could see them puling something like "the gods went to war, a bunch are already dead (because it frees mythic slots) and Heliod is still being a dick" and then Gideon and Ajani can bro up and slay Heliod and his allies.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
