I saw those Eclipse sleeves at the LGS yesterday but all they had left was an ugly Home Depot orange color. I didn't think I would ever find an ugly color for deck sleeves, but I guess I was proven wrong. I couldn't even fathom using them for my Pokémon or My Little Pony cards that get all the crazy color sleeves.
But I digress. They have a black layer inside the backside? Is it black plastic and the outer color just inked on or is it a black layer and colored layer bonded together?
I am currently using old formula Red Matte for my EDH decks and replacing them later this month with the newer Jet Matte after watching a friend use them.
My experience with the reds (and Jet) is they're completely opaque, don't pick much if any dirt if played on a clean mat with clean hands, and are virtually indestructible. After two years of using the same sleeves I have only one damaged sleeve that got dented by a rolling metal die, the card inside didn't get any damage. The only reason I'm changing sleeves is because I'm buying a whole case of Jet Mattes for all my decks since my Legacy and Modern decks are in older sleeves (KMC Hypers and old normal Dragon Shields) that do need replacing.
DS Mattes are noticeably thicker than other sleeves, I can fit 100 KMC Hyper Mat + KMC Pro Fit sleeved cards in a Dragon Shield clear acrylic box, but only 90 Dragon Shield Matte + KMC Pro Fit sleeved cards. As for how well they match with Ultra Pro inner sleeves, I don't know.
Thanks for the info. I ended up getting some Purple and Petrol Matte Dragon Shields and they are really nice. I sleeved up an EDH deck and, as you mentioned, they are thicker. So thick in fact that I cannot fit a doublesleeved deck in an Ultimate Guard Twin Flip N Tray 200+ and I barely got the deck to fit into one of their Boulders. I really like the setup I have where I put every deck into a Boulder and then put them all into an Arkhive. I am hoping that as I play with them more and get more air squeezed out that they will fit better. I will see what happens.
Back to your original question though: I was able to fit 100 Double Sleeved cards in a Satin Tower comfortably and 107 if I really forced them in there. I tried for a 108th card and I felt that I could get it to fit, but didn't want to risk the card. Again, these are with Ultra Pro Pro Fit inner sleeves.
Since I got these, I figured I could summarize what I am seeing so far (beyond the issue of being thick enough that they don't fit into certain deck boxes I mentioned above). They are mostly opaque where you can't see the card back through them but you can make out the outline of the card. Not a big deal, but figured I would mention it. I did sleeve up a DFC card and could not tell the difference between it and a normal card. The shuffle feel is nice and double sleeving was tighter than the Ultra Pro Eclipses but overall I didn't really have much of an issue with it.

They do have a black layer on the inside. I am not sure how to even tell the difference between the two options you mentioned, but it seems like it is all one layer so maybe it is black plastic that is inked on the outside.

Thanks for the info. And yes, the deck becomes about 4-6 cards thinner when the air pockets subside. It's not much but it may be just enough to fit your Flip N Tray.
What do you guys do with old card sleeves? Do you save them and give them to kids? Clean them and use them for some type of life hack? Or just throw them away?
I feel bad that I keep throwing mine away cause I change my sleeves every month but they’re really not that bad of condition. I’m just OCD compared to other people.

The material is usually polypropylene (PP) on the cheaper sleeves, not sure what it is on the the more expensive sleeves, I never asked any of the manufacturers specifically about their higher lines. I would wonder about the foiled ones. Anyways, The material is 100% recyclable (except foils?) so just toss them in your recycle bin. Or better yet, put them in the bag your new sleeves came in and toss it all together so they don't fly all over the place when the truck tips the can over. I speak from experience.
I should note that some districts will refuse to recycle plastics without the chasing arrows. In addition PP generally has very low recovery, less than 5% I believe. Though that is a problem of the industry as a whole and not the plastic itself. Nothing you can do about it.
Definitely do not give them to kids. If you don't want them because they've, "gone bad," even if they're only slightly used, you risk setting the kids up for a sucky experience. It would be better just to buy them new sleeves. This is my personal preference though.
As an aside, Please don't use them for shipping. Unused spares, fine. But used sleeves? No. I ocassionally get shipments in obviously worn sleeves and one had a small bit of grit inside the sleeve. Damaged a NM $5 card. So don't do it.
Hello everyone, I know this may sound odd, but most likely not unheard of, but I am only just recently (last month or so) came to learn about double-sleeving, but please bear with me, I havent truly played MTG in a good 7 years or so now, I kept buying for a year or two from that, so I havent collected in a good 5 years or so. Back then, we didnt double sleeve or sometimes even sleeved the cards, now im wanting to because im wanting to protect certain cards I have that have quit the value to them and cant just go and blow that kind of money whenever I want. ANYWAYS, what im trying get at is which brand should I be looking at to use? I know the size needs to be 64mmx89mm, but does the brand truly matter? I am also having to order these since local Walmart doesnt have them right now and in this one horse town, it could be a month before I see them again. So I went and browsed around a bit and found a few but I really dont know. I really hope not to also pay a lot for these. I would prefer the cheaper the better honestly but I just dont know and if you know a better place to buy them, let me know too.
Never mind to this, CardKingdom isnt really a good place to buy them type of sleeves iv come to see, $8 shipping is pretty far up there for a couple packs of sleeves, ended up actually getting the ones I saw for just around $3.50 on ebay with free shipping.
Has anyone used the Dragonshield Clear Matte sleeves? If so does anyone have any photos of how the backs look with the clear matte finish?
I know the photo gallery "shows" them, but I also know most of those online albums are made to look as good as possible.
I created an account just to reply with photos (never did that even to post in the lore section...that's how much I love Dragon Shield XD):
Single sleeved:
Double sleeved (with Dragon Shield perfect fit clear on the inside):
The images don't do the sleeves justice (and my smartphone's cam is not that good), the back is clearly visible, simply the matte finish is noticeable. Double sleeved cards' back is a little less visible but not so much. Personally I like Magic cards' back and I think I will continue to double sleeve this way all of my decks (even the pauper ones).
The only problem with dragon shield (at least if you double sleeve) is the deck thickness, even a 60 cards deck has become a little hard to shuffle. But who cares...they're indestructible.

I appreciate the effort you took for this. I did end up buying some clear dragonshields a while back, but I bought the non matte versions. I'm using them for my cube tokens so shuffle feel and the like shouldn't be an issue! Thanks again for the pictures

I know I may be a Dragon Shield fanboy but I can't recommend this sleeves enough.
I tried KMC for my two (rarely used) Yu-gi-oh! decks (matte clear here too), and I plan to try Ecplise for tokens (or for the two Duel Masters decks I have if they do a clear version of the sleeves), but I think Dragon Shield will always be my favorite, and I hope the brand will last.

I've searched this thread but been unable to find any current information on sleeves like this. Does anyone know where to buy similar ones? Or other "fancy" sleevs? Thanks a ton
If i'm not mistaken, these sleeves are from Ultra Pro. They used to be around somewhere between 2003 and 2006 in 5 different colors. I still have a pack of them in blue. I'm pretty sure they were discontinued and you can't find them anymore. I haven't seen anything similar since then.
Hello, I have two commander decks. And two modern decks. And kitchen table jank decks.
My Modern Decks are all in [Dragon Shield Red] the classic ones, but I cant recall if it used the classic. I have around 200 Dragon Shield Reds (in use and extra).
I wanted to know If I would switch to matte. What is the difference between black matte, slate matte and jet matte? Whih is the most recommended?
Or do I just buy new [Dragon Shield Red Classic] because I really like the less stress of havon to count my sleeves.

Black Matte is purely black. Slate is a dark gray but there's a significant difference between it and Black. Jet is Black Matte, but there's these tiny reflective silver flakes. They're very grainy and tiny and hard to tell apart from Black at a glance. Personally I never buy the Classic sleeves now and swear by Matte sleeves.
Okay, before people start going nuts here on KMC, they fixed the issue. I was going to post some screenshots due to another thread, but the Professor beat me to it on his video and I'm lazy. Basically, the new "fixed" version comes in different packaging than the late 2016-2017 KMC hypermats that had the durability problems. I've got the new sleeves now and can confirm they are back to their former glory (RIP test sleeve #11 and #3, you will be missed). Now what would be nice is if they gave 100 per pack instead of 80 per pack so I could have them match pound for pound with the inner sleeves.
You need to go to the 5 minute mark to see the package differences. If you buy online, make sure the ones you get sent are in the packaging to the left. Also, they do feel different too, so they don't mix very well.

Hey all,
I have a cube/type 4 stack that is due to get new sleeves. I currently have black ultra pro pro-matte sleeves that I've been very happy with. Can't complain about 2 years of steady play and minimal durability issues. The problem I do have is that I've been foiling it out, and the sleeves kind of dim the look of the foils. Any suggestions of what to get that will have the same durability, but be able to show the foiling a little better? Thanks!
I havent found another place to post this question.
But I´m searching for Toploaders (you know the rigid plastic ones for collecting purposes) that are actually perfectly clear, cause most ive found always had a blue tint. but when ordering cards online, some sellers also send the cards in toploaders that were perfectly clear without any blue tint.
Con someone tell me where to find those absolutely clear toploaders?

I've noticed that too. It's been a while since I purchased any but, AFAIK, Ultra Pro and BCW are the two dominate brands. There may be others but I've never looked for them. I believe BCW still sells clear ones direct on their website.
If you do find any, make sure you buy from a reputable source and manufacturer. BCW, Ultra Pro, Dragon, etc. Top loaders are usually made from PVC and bad no-name brands may add plasticizers and/or stabilizers to the PVC which spells bad news for any cards stored in them. I'm not a fan of PVC when it comes to collectables, period.
It mystifies me why manufacturers are adding blue tint to the top loaders. Is this to offset the yellowing in less than mint condition cards or to offset any yellowing in the PVC? I noticed some of the clear penny and deck sleeves from Ultra Pro will have a blue tint to them as well. But I just bought four packs of pennies from UP and they're not tinted.

Oh... I get it, side by side.
I'd be interested in finding proper sleeves for those cards. All I could find are those penny sleeves for storage, not really suitable for playing.
