What did you think? How many wins did you get last week and this week?
I really didn't have any fun playing the lead up last week. I managed only 5 wins before settling on a deck that was actually consistent under Arenas terrible hand algorithm. I'm not going to lie, I net decked for this one. I usually don't, but the pressure of only having 12 games to practice with is annoying. This particular matchup just reeks of WotC's attempt to squeeze you for more money. I know WotC is saying they want to see what kind of decks people come up with, but how is that a thing when the winning decks are being netdecked anyways?
In this event, I only managed 3 wins with both losses happening after the 3rd win. My first loss was against a superfriends deck that made use of Fae of Wishes. WotC, this is what the blue meta is going to get? At least Ring of Ma'rûf was fair since it exiles itself. Even the Judgement Wish cards did the same thing, but this blue only wishes with Teferi, Time Raveler? That's bollocks.
My second was against, of all things, a Rakdos deck that somehow managed to have a Murderous Rider or a Bonecrusher Giant for every creature I put down. My hand was perfect. I was on curve, I cast everything on time. But both decks always just answered every card I put down. Worse, I wasn't able to draw my own answers. Just creatures.
I did not enjoy this particular event in any way shape or form. I know people dislike the events with pre-constructed decks but I would just as soon play with pre-constructed decks next time than this type of thing.
For me it was funny in both times. But as I am FTP casual, I don't take these events too seriously.
Last week, in "warm up" event, I ended 5:7. First I tried UR "second card" deck, with playsets of Irencrag Pyromancer, Faerie Vandal, and Bloodhaze Wolverine, supported by Loch Dragon, Improbable Alliance, The Royal Scions, and similar cards. After that I switched to funny BG Golgari food deck with two Rampage of the Clans and hoped for luck. This deck wasn't so successful, but in final 12th game I managed to cast it in the end of opponent's turn and created 12 centaurs from food.
So for the "serious" event, I chose the UR deck and finished 2:2.
My opponents were
GU with Oko, Thief of Crowns (win)
BG food similar to mine second testing deck (lost)
RG midrange (win)
Monoblack (lost)
But I must say all four games were quite long, interesting, and balanced. There were chances in every game for each of us to win. So it easily could end 4:0 (or 0:4 of course).
