I started playing at FMNs around December and I go 3 times a week to modern events since I have the free time.
Even still I have lots of free time and I want to inquire about MTGO.
Main point- how can I tell if my toaster of a computer can run MTGO? I am worried about paying the money and then not being able to use it. My comp stuggles to run league of legends
Secondary point- Can I buy individual cards? I have a cheap modern deck that I have won well more then I spent for it in the past few weeks and if I do play MTGO I would just buy the deck
How does trading with other players work if we can trade with other players? Can we trade cards to other players for credit so we can get the cards we want without having to fish for them?
1) When you go to download it, they tell you the specs you need, but my old laptop that had to run LoL at the lowest settings to have a semi-consistant 20ish fps could run it just fine.
2) Yes, you can buy/trade individual cards, either with bots or stores dedicated to MTGO, such as mtgotraders. However, do note that prices are different on MTGO, usually for the better compared to actual cards. For example, snapcasters or only 5-6 on mtgo, goyfs are 70ish. In general, the only cards that are more expensive then IRL are pauper staples. Cloud of faeries is 10, for example.
3) I personally don't trade with other people, but from what I understand, you open up a trade with them, you each look through each others available collects, pick what you want and try to come to an agreement, basically the same as IRL.
The biggest difference is that you have tix in mtgo. 1 tix = 1 dollar
You know the card is good when 1/3 of the people say its underpowered, 1/3 say its just right, and the other 1/3 say its overpowered.

Just to clarify, tix (officially named Event Tickets) are the currency of MTGO. People buy them from the MTGO store (or ebay) and they are used to enter online events. They've pretty much became the default online currency.

You can search for individual prices and buy them on this site. There are many other ways to do it. MTGO prices are often less than paper.
