I'd play it in Limited and possibly in B/G Soulshift in Block. Otherwise, I see no other applications for it.
Eternal Witness just started doing the bump and grind. Too bad it's not Arcane...that would be an interesting addition to the black Spirit engine, if such a thing could be said to exist.
I don't understand this, I think theres somehting a little more to the card... because there can't be something worse then Raise Dead, and even Souless Revival... Just look at the cost comparison.

Nothing amazing.... but I really like reanimator. Would love to see it in standard, at some point in the coming years, as soulshift doesnt do it for me. Either way, this will be a fun thing to draft, and as a common? Tasty, very tasty.......
im sure ill make use of it. and its [robably goping top be one of the better black commons, so i dont think thats too bad. and its not like its the top reanimation spell for the set....ill prolly try it with spirits i guess.

Sorcery (C)
Return target creature card with converted mana cost of X or less from your graveyard to play. "And me without my big spoon!"
Are we sure this isn't part of the XCC cycle with alternate casting costs?
It'd be pretty nasty if it was.
This card will find room in my five color sliver deck, and if its got that sweet art chaosof99 showed, probably some other decks. For a little while I though it gave card advantage over Raise Dead, but no. just a color fixing raise dead.

You really can't get away.
I've tried.
Finally... I've really missed the reanimator decks in the recent T2... I'm also a bit uneasy about this thing being a common, yet Zombify was an Uncommon so I guess it fits (at least I think it was uncommon)... It gets my approval...
I'm not horribly impressed, for all the previously mentioned reasons (slow, expensive, reanimation seems pretty risky in Kamigawa block, etc).
No one has mentioned the similiarity to our smilin' kitty friend, Kentaro. White gets to ignore the color cost for Samurai from the hand, it makes sense that black gets to ignore color cost from the yard.
But...it's soooo slooow, and there are so few good discard outlets in T2 right now!
err... for all those people complaining about power level I really don't think this is aimed at competitive constructive players. it's borderline playable in draft and i'll certainly have some fun with it in casual though there's probably something better in the set. like the black shoal.
For a common, I've really got no complaints. While it is weak in comparison to other cards, especially since it's not going to reanimate the big stuff most reanimator decks run, it does provide decent recursion in limited. Plus as a common it doesn't clog up the rare or uncommon slots, which is always a good thing.
This is a very balanced recursion card...it won't see play in constructed because the whole point of reanimator decks is that you are getting an expensive creature for an inexpensive cost, at an early point in the game, none of which this card does at all well. However, it is not bad in limited, although its still not amazing...meh...

This card is awesome for a common. I also think that the art from the ink eyes story could be the art for this card, I don't know, but I'm guessing that it is.
The difference between this and Raise Dead + Cost of Creature all in one turn is that with this Cost of Creature is colorless. So, if you ever have some burning need to animate a green creature and don't have green mana, you do have the means.
This would be awesome if it were either an instant or an arcane, but as is it is only better than Zombifiy if you plan on reanimating something with cmc 3 or less. this with Hana Kami would have been intersting if it were an arcane.

1. 9 times out of 10 It's better than Raise Dead if you use it to return a creature that has died in combat.
2. It's not Zombify; and what I mean is... Zombify is good compared to this.
3. It'll let you return fatties late game, or zubera when they count.
It's a good limited card. Don't expect it'll see much play in const.

I can see it in B/G, maybe. seems BoK is the reanimate set, with this, the new reanimate, and the rumor Raa posted on news. I'm starting to think it's true now o_O
EDIT: that flavor text doesn't seem right for the card. it seems more like a "YOU HAVE BEEN SUPRISED AND KILLED BY A MANTICORE" card
I'm NOT AT ALL ABLE to build Madness, since I'm already building one for my partner in crime. Before you suggest a deck, check if it is madness. If the deck you were going to suggest IS in fact Madness, instead of posting, discard 2 cards.
At first I thought R_E made up the flavor text. Whenever he gets a card w/o flavor text he likes to put his own variation on it. But that is hilarious. It's a great effect for a common but the new reanimation card I'm looking forward to is the Shallow Grave effect.
Bleah. It'll be good in draft, and maybe block, where better alternatives don't exist. Sometimes that's the reason they print some cards: Limited needs them.
Hey! how about we combine it with Jet Medallion!? ...okay, I tried.

And the best title-flaor text relation in the Kamigawa block...

Probably the only Betrayers card I've seen that doesn't amuse me at all. Probably a 9E plant.
