Kentaro, the Smiling Cat -
Legendary Creature - Human Samurai (R)
Bushido 1
You may pay rather than pay the mana cost for Samurai spells you play, where X is that spell's converted mana cost.
2/1
Okay not bad, a 2/1 for 2 mana is decent, bushido makes it fairly strong, and the ability to pay only colorless for all your Samurai is pretty cool too. Not bad I must say!
I like it. No more issues with needing to have a specific color for casting Samurai. With Conspiracy, I could see some rather fun things to do with this.
Not a very spectacular ability, but it being cheap and a legendary samurai helpes the samurai a lot. Konda has a lot of stuff (banner) and people (hatamoto) that gets better with the appropriate legends and this one fits nicely.
Arkham, the 1920's. Investigators battle horrors from beyond time and space, risking life and sanity while conspiracies of cultists and malign servitors seek gateways for their outer gods to return...
Soon, the stars will be right! Great Cthulhu shall rise!
Like the others said this will greatly help out multi-colored Samurai decks.
Absolutely love the name! I had to go back and look at the creature type. As soon as I read Smiling Cat I imagined a kung-fu kitten duking it out Isamaru, Hound of Konda beneath Konda's throne.
i also like that it lets you use your non-white mana to pay for your white samurai and keep that white mana for blessed breath, candle's glows etc...

The areas between the cities give them room for green and red creatures without having to print something like "Central Park Druid" or "Backyard Squirrel" or something.
Yes, this will make me more likely to actually build that :symr::symw: Samurai deck that I've been researching. It definitely helps alleviate mana issues, but it's a Legend, so I won't want too many in the deck... :slant:
Meh, not that interesting. I'm guessing if a samurai deck arise, it will be monowhite. Even if it isn't, you won't be able to rely on this to play you red/black samurai. At least it's not crap in limited, as a 2/1 bushido for 1W. Is it uncommon?
It's kind of cool that White gets limited color-fixing - I think this ability is intended, in flavor, to allow White to play the "Betrayers" that used to be in White but now have shifted to other colors with the Betrayal of the people of Kamigawa. Good, as has been stated, in a tricolor or even more color Samurai block deck, though for conventional W/r samura Sensei is better.

It's a nice card. Solid but nothing special I reckon. Depending on this card to build a three-color-samurai.dec is risky. You need four to draw them reliably, which isn't good because it's a legend. It also isn't that spectacular on the field, lacking the 2 on defense. It'll be fun to play with though when you power out nasty red and black samurai from your third turn on with only plains on the table

They call him "Cat" but he's no *****!
Well, it's definately a legendary ability, and will help smooth out W/R.
there seems to be a lot of really good samurai, but i think we are still waiting for the SUPER GREAT AWESOMEST samurai...you know the one that will single-handedly turn ppl to white weenie, and make the deck competative...you know its coming. (well i hope its coming...)
nice, interesting card.
However,
Since when does white do color-fixing of any kind? I mean, has R&D decided to eat the color pie or something?

Try not to become hynotized by the downward spiral of your life. Curisosity Kills...
Don't get me wrong, because I love the ability... I just think it's a bit too fragile with only one toughness... Meh, it'll still be used in Samurai decks though... Just watch...
I don't think it's TOO fragile. i mean, it's a samurai deck, most of your creatures will have 1-3 toughness anyway. This will be, in my opinion, pretty amazing in block. it'll make RW samurai one of the best decks, if not the best. I can't see it coming into T2 that much, because of Ravager, but it's still pretty good. i'm looking forward to block season now. with the mass removal spell too, it looks to be interesting >;D

Am I the only one who got a mental image of "Hello Kitty" after reading that?
I don't want to be a killjoy, but what non-White samurai are you going to want to play this guy so to avoid color confusion? As a rare, this card won't be around much in Limited, which is unfortunate becuase this card is really really good in limited. I really think this should have been Uncommon; it has so much synnergy with BWR and Artifacts in CoK that to know that you won't be seeing it much, if at all, in limited makes me cry tears of blood like The Sorrow.
Interesting name; cheshire cat face guard, methinks?

Yamazuki Brothers comes to mind. Also the hasty red samurai and the rat samurai. (All of which coinidently cost three mana, right after you drop this dude) Not only that, but BoK will certainly include more off color samurais. We'll just have to wait and see.

Most Samurai are White or Red anyways...
So I assume all Samurai decks will be red and/or white...
Really, the best this card will do is assist red/white casual samurai decks to get over the double colored mana costs quicker...
Not really too special in my book...
But a 2/1 for 2 isn't really bad... With Bushido to boot...
