Hmmm, a definate disappointment for a rare, but it would have been slightly overpowered in uncommon. I guess it's placement is fair, but this will probably never appear in any deck I build, except for pure annoyers or freakishly extreme-Johnnie decks.

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.
Because it is extremely powerful. Think about this on turn three against a deck that is trying to get out a dragon. Not only do you basically get a free life during your turn for you land, but you get life as they build up to their dragon.
It's also incredibally powerful with zo-zu in combination land destruction, and/or land bounce.
Soratami deck i would like to say.
Predict i can now that WOTC is planning to form us/ChkBC into such a environment dominated by ogre-oni / u-g soratami/ r-w samurai .
Oh oh oh! Another idea: Patron of the Soratomi! Especially if you can find a way to get out multiples of this, Meloku/other soratomi + Patron of the Soratomi= Lots of life.
True. If meloku could return two lands to your hand, it would have an infinate loop with the patron of the moon:
You have out three lands. Tap one, return it and another to your hand. Tap the remaining one to put those two into play (untapped). Tap one of your two untapped to return itself and the other tapped one to your hand (leaving one untapped). Repeat process.
Too bad. Still, Life Gift + Melouka + Patron of the Moon is a very, very potent combo.
It is kinda' bad for a rare. I would like it if it were a common, or maybe even an uncommon.

Life gain has to be *very* powerful to be worth playing. This seems poopy ... you'd have to gain life from 6 lands to make it equal to one Renewed Faith from old t2, and Renewed Faith had cycling and was an instant.
If you're able to develop your land base or do land tricks consistently enough to take advantage of this card, it seems like there's something better to do than gain life.

This is my Jackal Pup. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Jackal Pup is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My Jackal Pup without me is useless. Without my Jackal Pup, I am useless. I must tap my Jackal Pup true. I must tap faster than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must beat him down before he beats me down. I will.
this card could be in decks where u play a lot of lands really quick (tooth and nail perhaps, or in combination with that green legend from CHK that lets u play extra lands per turn) its not very powerful, but a few extra life here and there couldnt hurt...
I'm not incredibly happy about it being a rare, but at least its relatively cheap at 2G in green meaning possible turn 2 play and it can be broken with cards like fastbond, crucible of worlds, zuran orb(sac a land for +2 life, play it from the game for -1 life gain +1 life rince repeat means you gain +2 life and whatever the land produces each time you do it). and in type 2 it works well with the moonfolk and asuza or the new patron of the moon.
There'll always be mediocre rares in every set and at least this 1 has some uses(especially in multiplayer) and on the plus side as a rare its unlikely you'll have to see it that often in limited.
I wouldn't say it's EXTREMELY powerful, but it is worthy of being a rare. I might sideboard it in my T2 turbo-land deck, since I can have 10 lands by turn4 or 5 with that deck, and this out turn 2...that makes an extra 12 life by turn 5 assuming my opponent plays a land every turn. That could be useful against decks that like doing just enough to get to 20 damage.
i dont usually bash rares, but this one is very sad. not worth being a rare. definately one of the sucky ones from the set. not even worth playing at all play 4 nourish in green and gain 24 life, which is more than youll gain with this over the course of a game.
Meh...are casual i.e. multiplayer card. Lifegain in the rare slot to me should signify something along the line of, I don't know; Exalted Angel perhaps? Starting to look like Affinity gonna be happy at number 1 'til November. I really had faith in Randy and Mike.
The card is one of those niche cards for multiplayers and combofreaks.
It would do a good job in a green/red LD deck. IF you can continue to destroy your opponents lands they have to keep playing land. It certainly isn't as powerful as the shrines, but one of these has the potential of 2 life each turn, one shrine is one life per turn. when you start to multiply them which one gets sicker. 2 shrines = 2 life, 2 Lifegeifts = 4 life each turn.
But it still will see the most play in multiplayer. Which is a format Wizards has been looking at supporting more and more each set.
I'm not sure this would be all that great. maybe if it cost :symg:, or maybe even :symg::symg:, it would be ok. but :2mana::symg:? i dunno, i can't see it being played all that much.
With this and the other "filler" rares, I sure hope the other half of the unspoiled betrayers brings some useful commons/uncommons other than those we've already seen.

......WTF????....... I don't even know what kind of warning you deserve for this....
Lifegift- Wow, that name is bland. At least its ability isn't bad. While it's not very useful in constructed or even limited, it does have a lot of multiplayer potential. Its also, as people have already said, a friend of Fastbond and Crucible of Worlds in T1, so may find some use there...though it's overall casting cost may hinder its usefulness....
It's pretty good in multiplayer, but anywhere else is just another crap rare, it should've been uncommon like most non-card drawing green enchantments.

they missed the boat making this a rare, imho.
if it were uncommon, i wouldn't mind it at all.
as it is tho, :puke:.
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.
it's funny.. they're slowly turning this into an enchantment focused block..
onslaught was turned into a creature heavy
mirrodin obviously artifact heavy with lately some johny interactions
and now everything turns to start focusing on enchants.. and that explains maybe why they created autumn tail in cok.. when it wasn't exactly useful

by itself, this card isn't very exciting and it is just a waste of a rare slot. i don't play enough limited to know how good life gain is in an aggressive block and i doubt it would affect constructed. on the other hand, it does seem like fun in a multi-color combo deck...blue patron+crucible of worlds+mana seism+lifegift = however much colorless mana and life you want (if the cards interact like i think they do). if they print that black instant revival a player could go off pretty quickly in standard...

waste of a good rare slot and an obvious new rare lucky charm type deal.
fastbond doesn't need this, nor does crucible.

I regularly play 3-5 player games, so this is, at most, 5 life a round.
and alot of them (including me) play green, it becomes something like...7-10 life a round.
Awesomea.
