yep... and this set seem to have a small re-animate theme... better crack out my old re-animate deck list...

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"
2/2
Stupid. Just stupid. Compare to Silvos. Is soulshift so good that it should cost an additional 3 mana and subtract regenerate? Was an 8/8 trampler for 9 so devastating that they needed to make the toughness low?
I guess that's what is so annoying about this - that it costs so much but has such a small ass.
Yes, it's really expensive, but it does have its uses, most of which (green shoal, reanimation, Through the Breach) have been said here. In block constructed, I can see this guy is some dedicated acceleration decks, mostly due to the fact that his power is the highest yet printed for the format, and he has trample. That's probably not the best example out there, but don't write him off just yet.

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.

Why are you comparing this card to Silvos? I know Silvos is a great card, but it's rare and legendary. If this card was legendary, it would probably be something like 5GG to cast and would be rare as well. As it is, it's not great but it's not terrible. I've seen plenty of worse cards. If nothing else, this card would be really fun with Sneak Attack (or Through the Breach).

so.. question.. is there a good spirit with cmc of 8 out there?
cause i can't understand why wizards keep making these creatures.. moss kami.. vine kami.. the (U) insect kami..
if.. imho.. some of the most used green cards in cok where cheap.. sakura elder.. the kodama arcanes.. the zubera.. hana kami.. stuff like that.. so what's telling wotc that they must keep on making these things?
(ok.. the dragon and kodamas.. but.. what else?)

I think they're trying to appease Timmy. Not to mention that they've been trying to slow the game down lately. I guess the common argument is that longer games are more fun. Besides, there's always mana acceleration such as the Sakura-Tribe Elder that you mentioned.

You must be new to the game. Moss Kami is one of the most powerful creatures in CHK. With green mana accel (one Kodama's Reach + one Sakura elder), you can get it on turn four, and attack on turn five. I draft U/W. Always. Unless I get terrible cards. Normally a kabuto moth + kitsune blademaster can basically destroy anything, as I finish off my oponent with my teller of tales, and sometimes unblocked blademasters. However, facing down a moss kami without a cage of hands is devastating.
Its not fantastic but at least unlike most uncommon expensive huge green creatures this one has trample which is great. Also soulshift 8 is nothing to sneeze at it can get back a dead moss kami or a dead jugan the rising star(or any other dragon for that matter). It won't see constructed play but in limited it might see play as a finisher if you didn't get any good rare finishers(dragons etc.).
Why are you comparing this card to Silvos? I know Silvos is a great card, but it's rare and legendary. I'm comparing this to Silvos because this is the Legend block, and Green deserves a kick ass, big ol' legend. Yeah, this guy isn't legendary (though with that name, why isn't he? What, are there a bunch of bodies of Jukai wandering around?), but he has the same P/T as Silvos, and he costs 3 more. The nonlegendary status is highly unlikely to be a problem most of the time - only in mirrors will this be any kind of significant drawback, and his cost ensures he won't be seen in a mirror. Whether a card is rare or not should not determine its constructed-level quality; only its playability should.
With Silvos coming out so recently, it's hard not to compare this 8/5 beast with that one. And it just doesn't compare favorably.
I think the mana cost puts is way out of range of playability. The soulshift is nice but reaching nine mana to play this creature does sound like a hot idea in limited. Meh...again.

lol .. i knew i didn't explained myself well.. :wink3:
i actually use moss kami a lot.. maybe cause i like the art i pick it more than vine kami or the kumos.. (not exactly new to the game)
trying to elaborate:
my point isn't in the creatures themselves.. nor in the p/t and the slow down of the mana curve intention of wotc.. was in the "filling" with soulshift.. i mean.. fatties are good for the game.. specially timmy - casual oriented.. but my point is.. why instead of adding high soulshifts they add "this may block as thought it has flying" or regenerate or "cannot be blocked by less than two creatures" or "payN: this gets ..." or stuff like that.. when they've already printed a solid base for soulshift in this block?? is like printing many times the same card without apparently improvements in the different sets of a single block.. when let's face it.. the thousand legged kami itself is more than enough to bring back the top "fatties" around.. the kodamas.. jugan.. and others.. and imho.. if you need to bring back the patron.. there are other ways to do so.. just think up.. there're always cheaper ways to reap graveyards..
so if they are going to add timmy stuff.. at least add something that will make the card more appealing even for non timmy players.. so they can be at least picked up by a (no matter if small) part of the gaming community instead of it being called a "filler" in the uncommons slot
(yeah.. it's a block.. and they've to show up the new mechanics.. but imho there's a point that they usually get to when they start over doing it.. and killing creatures with potential.. so instead of people being amazed by the possibilities of the new mechanics they just say "bah another filler")

meh. seems like one of those cards that needs to be put into the set because of flavor/storyline reasons, though i haven't read this block's book so i could be wrong. anyway, i think WotC could have done a better job, such as maching it an interesting mechanic like Kaldra was, or at least making it playable.

Well, you do have a point there. Although I personally think that for only 6 mana, Silvos was somewhat broken (if you can consider a 6-mana creature broken). I played a deck once with Silvos and Lightning Greaves... man, that was almost unfair. Anyway, maybe there will be "kickass, big ol' legend" yet to come. Knowing Wizards, there probably will be some big, fat, rare, legendary 10/10 monster with trample for only 7 mana or so.
As far as playability goes, if every card was equally playable, I believe the game would be considerably less fun. The "bad" cards are what make the "good" cards seem so great. It's all a matter of relativity (and no, I'm not talking about E=MC^2). I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know, but it can't hurt to try and explain how I view the game.

When I saw the soulshift 8 back when thats all we knew my inner timmy woke up and started dancing... when he found out it was an 8/5 for NINE he shot himself in the face... Way to go WIZARDS you killed my timmy... Now if only I could do somthing about Spike.
Seriously - maybe...and I am only saying maybe in sealed deck I will consider this dude...maybe. This is not plated Slagwurm as it can be targeted - but it has trample...which it will deal exactly once - 5 defense and no regeneration? NINE Mana?!?!? What do I want to soulshift for 8? I mean for 6 I get dragons...
This is actually the only playable option I saw, although I was thinking casual 1.5 with Surge of Strength .
Ahhh, the judge in me is screaming to correct this.
Surge of Strength doesn't look at the CMC of the card you discard. It looks at the CMC of the creature you target. It's vague, but if you read the card carefully enough, you'll see what I mean.
Here's the Oracle wording, much easier to see with this wording.
As an additional cost to play Surge of Strength, discard a red or green card from your hand.
Target creature gains trample and gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is its converted mana cost.
EDIT: Actually...I think the other wording is better to prove this point: "....where X is equal to that creature's casting cost."
Jukai is the main forest realm from the storyline...perhaps there'll be a big-boy spirit for each of the main areas....one for the palace-grounds, the falls, etc.:confused3:
It was brought up briefly. The problem with that idea is that the other colors aren't really as into the whole massive-creature thing, and only Green and Black get Soulshift, since they're the colors with graveyard manipulation.
And "Body of Eiganjo" or something just doesn't have the same ring to it.
