and why bother reducing the number because its legendary? that just means there less chance to get one, whereas if you had 4, a second one would just kill both and net 2 spirit tokens.
Because most of the time, you'd rather use God's Eye as a land than a creature. If you draw doubles and play them, you've cost yourself two cards and, more importantly, two land drops in exchange for two 1/1s. That's not a good deal. Two in your opening hand = very bad.
In most situations, God's Eye will be tapped for mana rather than used for its special ability. If it didn't tap for mana, it would be completely unplayable.

This is my Jackal Pup. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Jackal Pup is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My Jackal Pup without me is useless. Without my Jackal Pup, I am useless. I must tap my Jackal Pup true. I must tap faster than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must beat him down before he beats me down. I will.
In a few circumstances this is ok but if you think about it its a free 1/1. Affinity has free 2/2 and 4/4's that dont throw off there mana base. Nothing spectactular but usefull occasionally.
Some aggresive decks wouldn't mind the loss of land in return for free creatures, but what do I know. (Answer: nothing)
There are definitely times when it's worth losing a land to gain a 1/1. It will definitely be fun to Crack the Earth, sac a God's Eye, splice a Glacial Ray to remove a blocker, and attack with Akki Raider.
All I'm saying is that it will be subpar to draw, say, a Mountain and two God's Eyes in your opening hand. Most aggressive decks care a lot about draw consistency... it's nice to get a "free" 1/1, but it's more important to consistently cast your two- and three-drops.
That's why I think 2 is the right number for the Block Akki deck. If there's a combo deck out there centered around God's Eye, I am utterly unqualified to speculate about that.

That card is damned cool. Frankly I see no reason why every deck should have at least one, unless you have some serious mana issues. Works so well in Obliterate, Death Cloud, Armageddon, and dont forget Cracked Earth:tongue2: . And Crucible of Worlds/Fastbond combos just keep growing and growing...
i think there's a lot better choices for a sligh deck...

Turn 1 mountain.
Turn 2 this, tap mountain, crack the earth sacrificing the land.
You gain a spirit, they lose a permanent (maybe a land, meaning you don't lose land advantage).

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.

R Citizen Cane (Feldon of the Third Path)
Azusa, Crucible of Worlds, and 2 God's Eye
Two free 1/1's each turn, and no missed land drops.

I don't see any strong Limited potentcy, nor any Constructed use...
But here's to being the optimist and saying it will still be used somehow!
