Well that completely changes everything. While still not the world's most useful counterspell, at least it does something other than peek. Probably decent in limited at least now.
I think the card is now worse than before. At least the first ability was...mildly useful...if that second abilty ever gets used, it would have to be a rare ocurence.

You still get to look at his/her hand, but it just doesn't always make them discard. So really, it's still better than before since you still look at their hand.
It slices up splicers. o_o; As said before, it's not the most useful thing in the world, but it might stop a few tricky people in limited.

I have to say, I have played a lot of Kamigawa Block, and though it is only one set so far, I have to say that splice in various forms (G/B with Hana Kami/Soulless Revival, R/x with Glacial Ray, maybe even U/W Dampen Thought, and so on) is a definite block competitor and such decks won't be happy to get their stuff countered by this card. Especially if there end up being alternate (non-mana) splice cost spells, splice could be important and this counter could be a strong sideboard card at least in block (competing with Hisoka's Defiance, I would assume).
Hey at least it gets a little better in block and limited. It still wont be played, but hey, most cards never see play, so i wont complain about one little counter.

This cardmay net be the best from a power standpoint, but it is at LEAST decent, there. It's a hard counter that can generate card advantage for you, coming right when your opponent expects to be gaining card advantage for himself. I've drafted Splice decks (both U/W and R/W), and this one card can end the archetype.

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.
Well, if nothign else it kills my favorite way of destroying line games... Petals of insight + Glacial Ray... lol, but any normal counterspell does that, so in all truth, I'm not impressed.

Minamo's Meddling - :2mana::symu::symu:
Instant (C)
Counter target spell. That spell's controller reveals his or her hand then discards each card with the same name as a card spliced onto that spell.
It's obviously still garbage, especially since we haven't seen any good splice spells for this set yet, and there's no dominant splice deck in block that I know of. But at least it explains things a bit. Sorry for the confusion
well, it's getting better then...
but still too conditional... (/me is still not happy...)
and it *might* be sideboard card against block "dampen thought" deck...
(well, it could be an archetype in the block you know...)
okay so now it's not entirely useless. I can see myself running this in block constructed where there's sure to be red decks abusing glacial ray and probably dampen thought decks as well. In limited it might be sideboard worthy against anyone using the dampen though strategy.

Darn, JUST got beat to it. Wizards printed a card as a hoser for a Limited deck! They've hit rock bottom. This is now purely an anti-Dampen Thought counter if you want to get the most out of it.
Pretty cool if it essentially counters all the spliced spells effectively as well. None of that "keep the splicers in hand to keep them safe from counter" bull****.

except the dampen thought deck is mostly dead in limited. as an uncommon, you really need 24 packs in order to be assured of getting one.

Dampen.dec is now a block deck, nothing more.
And a REALLY bad Block deck at that. I realize Dampen.dec is dead in Limited, which is what makes this card even sadder. I stand by my original statement that it's not the worst counter ever (I think Spell Blast still wins that prize), but it's not exactly playable either.
They are bound to get a good reprinted version of Counterspell if they just keep making more and more and more, right? RIGHT?
Oh, come on now... play nice. Wizards is trying, dammit! And Hinder is good- there are instances where it's better than counterspell! They just don't happen that often.
Anywhom... yeah, this is close to unplayable. Until the day I fear Dampen Thought decks, I just say No to cards like this... Minamo's Meddling.
On an even more negative note(Book SPOILERS Herin), The death of Minamo seems to mean that we won't get much good, reprintable counter-madness in Saviors. Damn. However, the fact that Minamo's gone makes me want to party. Hidgetsu, one day, Toshi will kill you. Until than, keep kicking wizards' punk asses!
